Too bad this has been derailed as I think the OP was worth discussing.

Oh, I'm sorry. I should be ready to give a fair hearing to the anti-porn crowd's latest effort to designate porn fans as victims of an irresistible and insidious corrupting influence and therefore incapable of rational thought. Haven't we been through enough of this over the years? How many times have we heard this shit?
OK. Let's pretend this isn't what it obviously is.

I'm so addicted to porn that I failed almost all my classes this semester because I was wacking off instead of studying.

Random...you are so fucking far off base. Did you not read any other posts in this thread? It seems you're more concerned with your own diatribe than actually appreciating the substance of this thread.
Am I anti-porn?? I think not. Did you not read my well thought out, rational post expressing my concern that because I'm stuck at home for the foreseeable future in front of this computer, usually reading/posting/viewing something porn related, that I may develop an addiction?
I'm sure more than a few of us have wondered about the subject of this post from time to time.
I'm happy that you're immune from such things, now kindly climb the fuck down from your high horse and leave this thread alone.

I don't get how having an addiction to something is anti anything. I know a lot of alcoholics that are not anti booze. I know people that have kicked gambling issues that are not anti gambling. So if I feel I have have an issue with porn, how the hell does that make me anti porn. My issue isn't with porn, it's with how I handle it.

Here's my definition that will pretty much cover the question of having an addictive problem with anything:
1) Do you have to [fill in verb and noun of thing/activity here]every few hours or so? Can you not go more than 8 hours without it?
2) are you spending an inordinate amount of your income on [blank]? When you get your credit card bills, are you shellshocked? Are you bouncing checks/missing automatic debits?
3) Part and parcel with #1, are you neglecting parts of your life that were previously very important to you? Has your behavior changed significantly? How about your relationships with others? Are you in ill health because of it?
4) Has [blank] ever gotten you fired? Has it gotten you in trouble with the law?
If you answer "Yes" to any of these you may have an addiction. If you answered "yes" to #2 or #4 you probably have a dangerous addiction. .
Of course danger can be relative: Take smoking; as addictions go, it's a fairly benign one. It may or may not give you cancer in the long run but if you're not hung up on that, most people manage pretty well with it. More and more, I'm hearing about Facebook and texting addictions, which is harmful if done while driving.

Basically one has to have the ability to be honest with oneself as to whether you engage in something that is a dangerous addiction or not.

Addictions have their own life cycle, and it can take a long time for someone to spiral out of control. Just go to an AA meeting, you'll hear stories about people who were highly functioning alcoholics, before they finally hit bottom.
I don't know that porn is an addiction in the sense of alcohol or heroin, but if it interferes with your relationships, work, or well being, then that may be exactly what it is.
FYI smoking has three down stream effects; cancer, emphysema, and heart disease. All will kill you equally dead.
Now if there was a vaccine against all those three, then I'd happily reach for my Marlboro's once again.

billybob says "Hello Group. My name is billybob and I have a Porn Addiction problem." Group says all-at-once "Welcome billybob".
The "Twelve-Step Porn Addiction Program"*
1) We admitted we were powerless over Porn that our lives had become unmanageable.
2) Came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity.
3) Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood Him.
4) Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves.
5) Admitted to God, to ourselves, and to another human being the exact nature of our wrongs.
6) We're entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character.
7) Humbly asked Him to remove our shortcomings.
8) Made a list of all persons we had harmed, and became willing to make amends to them all.
9) Made direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others.
10) Continued to take personal inventory and when we were wrong promptly admitted it.
11) Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God as we understood Him, praying only for knowledge of His will for us and the power to carry that out.
12) Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these steps, we tried to carry this message to porn addicts, and to practice these principles in all our affairs.
* It's really the Alcholics Anonymous program! Same shit though right? lol :)

It's odd how some people seem to be insecure about this topic. Who gives a fuck either way? Good for the activist person if that makes him happier or who cares, but I don't see why people are getting upset about this. Everybody here has at least a small addiction, and it's obvious because YOU are here. But again, who gives a fuck either way?

That may be but if I just wanted to start a topic on a rock music forum and I chose to post a thread titled "Does anyone else think rock is the devil's music?" I would expect a hostile response.
No. I think it's reasonable to conclude that an intelligent person could guess this isn't the best place to post propaganda that demonizes porn.
Good for you.
Here's a great place to discuss it
It took me less than 15 seconds with Google to find that. Anyone who has an ounce of sense could have easily done the same.

Here are the FIRST lines....
If you don't think that demonizes porn, you know nothing about the history of anti-porn activism.

I know it's not the exact quote from Hamlet but the meaning's the same:
"Me thinks thou dost protest too much"
For those of you who don't want to look it up, basically it means when someone is over dramatizing a point, it may mean they are actually guilty of the point they are making.

^^Ok
Obviously you didn't GET my last post otherwise you'd have quit posting your drivel....and you seemed so intelligent.
ALL you're doing is stirring up shit.
If we want to discuss the topic here, we can/will but thanks to you I fear the thread has been permanently derailed...so I guess mission accomplished.
In any case please move on from this thread and go back to one of your many other interesting threads.

Ashlii, nice to see that a lady like you admits to having a porn addiction, now some of the other girls that post here should admit likewise. It is so hot knowing that some ladies dig porn as much as the guys do. And also, Ashlii, do you watch porn with others, both guys and girls? I hope so as a post indicating such would be a great way to introduce ladies to porn, don't you think?

1)No I don't have I stayed 3 years out of porn with no problem I don't even watch porn every day I stay days and weeks without it
2)No I spend just what I can afford to, I don't watch movies on my computer I want a material support.
3) not at all , I sometimes have to give back some DVDs I picked up for rental without watching at them because something I didn't predict happened such a call from a friend or even an ex-girlfriend or many other things
4)No, , but I live in Europe it is unlikely that someone would be fired because he owns some porn unless you watch at it at work ,on your computer, in working hours, but I didn't , I never watch porn on a computer.
Also I don't have a profile on Facebook and I stopped smoking 14 years ago 40 Chesterfield red label a day at that time.

Have to admit I looked up some of your posts to determine your sex and nothing I can remember gave it away. I actually thought the avatar maybe you also, it's quite clearly Julia Bond now Iv'e had my connection upgraded and the pics are much clearer.
Very very funny!

^ You've managed to hook in and disappoint three men (that we know of). Impressive! You could also embrace your new, exciting gender transformation. Straddle the fence, as it were. (And no, I have never heard of a man with that name who spells his name with an "i").

You can tweak your profile. For example in the "industry connections" section you can click one (or more) of the prepackaged categories or invent your own by clicking 'other'. Then if someone clicks your profile they'll see the info. IMO changing your name, after having 700+ posts, would create confusion.

My comment was a tongue in cheek comment towards oldguy as i have seen him post similar to sun showers (i think) it was not meant to be nasty just teasing.
