I think I realise what you're trying to do. I'm assuming that you want to play some downloaded movies on your DVD player, is that rite? To answer your question, if your DVD player can read VCD's (I think it should since it can read CD-r's), you needn't burn your movies as a DVD format (or known as MPEG-2). What you can do is, burn them as a VCD format (known as MPEG-1 or .dat) on a CD-R/RW, and your DVD player will read it just like a VCD.

You can actually burn CDs in a MPEG-2 format, but I think some DVD player will not be able to read it. It's uncommon to do so since MPEG-2 takes up a huge data space, hence DVD's are used since DVD's can hold up to a max of 18 GB while a CD only a max of 700MB. Unless you have a source of very high quality and huge in size, burning it MPEG-1/VCD would just be as good and can produce great results.

YOu burn your mpeg files as a VCD cd when you use your burning software.

Of course there are certain players that can just play MPEG files right off the CD.

look at vcdhelps comparision page of DVD players to see what yours supports. If it only does VCD then create your Videos as VCD compliant MPEGs.

If it does SVCD hey even better! But I don't think iMovie supports SVCD output...

There is several peices of software that lets you produce DVD's in true dvd format (menus, sub menus etc) but you only need a CDR to make one. Obviously your limited to what you can put on the CDR in dvd format due to the capacity of the CDR (am i making sense? LOL).

Spruce Up DVD - I couldnt use this as it requires Windows 98 SE as a minimum requirement but it will do the trick apparently.Spruce Up

Ulead DVD plugin - For all you out there who have a copy of Ulead videostudio. Ulead also have a plugin that lets you make dvd's too. Ive got the program but again i couldnt work it out LOL (i cant help being dim).

DVDit - This was the easiet to use and i actually go somewhere on this. But i didnt suceed in the end as i couldnt get it to work (premaster). DVDit

There are lots stages involved in making DVD's and they all say its easy, but its bloody well not. Its very frustrating. Plus as well it helps if youve got a really fast computer. In the end i downloaded about 200MB of dvd authoring software and ended up making a VCD instead LOL

So all you peeps out there you can have a go, and if anyone actually gets to make there own let us all know ,just dont rub it in

I have Pioneer and it works on mine, I think almost all pioneer players can played CDRs including burnt VCDs.

I have made copy VCD off DVD through my ATI video card.
It was working. But, I'm not that impress with picture quality.
Try to make Svcd but no luck. Any body has good experience making them please share with me.
