Anyone else having trouble with newer DVDs?

I have 4 players 2 are less than a year old, and 2 are around 2 maybe 2 and a half years old, and it seems the older 2 are having the bulk of the trouble. They were all higher end players and I have no other issues with any of them accept several newer porn discs give me a "NO DISC" message when I try and play them. Only porn discs that have been released in the past 5 or 6 months. Maybe 15 discs or so from several different studios. I by even more new release mainstream movies than I do porn, but no problems on any of the players with any of those discs, so I am wondering if anything has changed in porn DVDs. I know it is not errors with the disc because they play perfectly in the other players and I have had several of them replaced only to have identical problems on up to 3 copies of the same title. I talked to a friend who had a similar problem with newer porn discs, he told me that he had heard that some players are having trouble with newer discs due to disc technology changing and not being readable on some couple year old players, so he went out and bought a cheap player and it fixed his issues. Is there any truth to any of this? Have things changed recently, and is anyone else having the same trouble? If any of you tech guys that know about this stuff can shed any light I would greatly appreciate it, thanks. [Link]
jamesn Senior Member Cambridge, MA 750 Posts 1/04	Posted - Sep 28 2004 : 12:04AM if it's not able to see good discs, my money would be on your laser calibration/tracking are a little outta whack. is it trying to sync and spinning up and down with lights going? you can always try cleaning(avoid lens) that little tray that actually has the laser on it and the path it travels on. it could be that some silicone-based lubrication and dusting will allow the transport to move smoothly enough to start tracking right. It did nothing, but I just find it hard to accept that that is it anyway considering it is 2 players with exactly the same issue, and that they play 100% of my mainstream discs even 2 from a friend that destroyed the discs a while back, and they play 95% of my porn collection without any issue at all except for these newer discs. I just don't understand what could possibly be happening. [Link]
Death Star Deactivated User 47 Posts 9/04	Posted - Sep 28 2004 : 8:35PM Try taking your DVD player to the authorized repair center. JVC to JVC. Panasonic to Panasonic. Take the problem discs with you. Ask for a guy so you don't get slapped or laughed at and see what happens. I have never had any problems with any porno DVD's. I use Sony carousel and single DVD players and a Toshiba Cinema Series 32 inch analog TV. We don't have digital on any of our main channels so I won't buy a plasma TV yet. Funny how after a few minutes, you forget whether you're watching a 50 inch or a 32 inch TV. You're too focused on the picture. [Link]

I noticed that my 4 year old player started having problems reading some discs about 6 months ago, then about a month or two later it died, the laser just decided it was time to burn out I guess. And these problems are not restricted to adult DVDs but also in maintain DVDs. I have 2 players that are only a few months old, one over a year, and another is about 5 years old that I don't use very much. Many of the problems seem to be with freezes for several seconds to a minute or so in length. The problems are not restricted to adult DVD. But exist in newer mainstream releases that I buy from retail stores. For example, Star Wars Trilogy disc 1 freezes for a minute or so around the middle of the movie. And Sex and the City Part 1 had problem on one of the disc. I bought both new from retail store. And just recently, I bought an Adult DVD that doesn't even load in my players. My oldest player (a JVC xv-511) has a problem with many current titles, mainstream and adult. Especially Columbia Tri-Star and Paramount titles. Most freeze before the main menu. However my other players of which the oldest is a little over a year old are all playing every disc I throw at them fine. [Link]

Click to expand The sporatic freezes on my disc 1 Star Wars DVD can't be from layer change, can it? The screen freezes and starts for a few seconds at a time for several minutes. I've had other discs that freeze for a few seconds in the middle of the movie that I know are from layer changes. But those freeze occur only once in the movie not several times. Also, when I play it on a non-Sony player, it doesn't freeze at those time frames but display a lot of video pixelation problem. I thought of contacting Amazon for an exchange but since the problem is not so severe that I can't even watch it, I decided not to spend the time and hassle to exchange it. Not from a disc read error but from the player just locking up at certain parts of the disc. Two of those titles were new releases from Northstar Productions. In my situation I don't think there's anything wrong with my DVD player(s). Maybe the problem is just poor manufacturing, I don't know. [Link]

It could be solvents or something else left from the manufacturing process still on the disc. I'd try exchanging them, especially since I believe that Amazon gives you a free shipping label to return the item for replacement. [Link]

Most of the older DVD players ( 2 y/o + ) have a lens what is not sensitive enough . The newer DVDs are made with new technologies and need to be played with DVD players what have a very sensitive lens . So your older DVD players can't read well your newer DVDs . Click to expand The older players can't read the newer adult DVD's well. I own 4 DVD players. The newest was purchased this past Januaury and the oldest was purchased in '97. I have never had a problem playing mainstream DVD's on the oldest model and I still use it to watch rented DVD's all the time. But I have had problems playing adult DVD's on it and on the second oldest unit, which is 4 years old. From what I've seen and been told, the problem is (a lack of) quality control on the part the adult DVD manufacturers. [Link]

I had the problem with the LORD OF THE RINGS DVD , SPIDER-MAN DVD , ...... what are not adult DVDs !!!! I am mainstream DVDs salesman and until a few months , some customers had this problem , I advised them to buy another DVD player , I explained the problem , so they bought a new DVD player and their DVDs work very well now ! It's not a problem with adult DVDs only !!! [Link]

I got my newest order Mon. and threw in Teenage Spermaholics 2 first thing, skipping right to the scene I've been dying to see. Only to find that it freezes up for a few seconds then jumps forward a little bit only to freeze up again. Making at least half the scenes unviewable. Today I checked out the two Platinum X movies and they play fine, but neither of them is over 3hrs. in length. The first time I noticed this problem was in N.C.D.A. 3 (over 3hrs.) it played fine a couple of times but now it does the same thing in the last few scenes. Which is frustrating to say the least since it's not only one of favorite DVDs but I take extremely good care of them. And if this wasn't bad enough last night I rented a mainstream movie that was so scratched up I hesitated even putting it in my player(which I bought in April) and it played straight through without any problem whatsoever. Hopefully someone in the know can help us! BTW I already tried everything mentioned in this thread with no luck. [Link]

They told me that that there is a compatibilty issue on older DVD players and this title and credited my account towards another purchase. So now it appears that I will have to buy another NEW DVD player just to play a few select adult titles. Matbe it's a conspiracy between movie studios and electronics manufacturers to get us to buy a new DVD every year. [Link]

Last time with Private disc (which I'll be reviewing shortly) and this was the worst case so far. The picture just froze at one scene, disc kept spinning, and that was it. Luckily, you could circumvent that chapter with Chapter Selection, and it was ok for the rest of the movie. It happened with both my DVD player (about 1.5 yr old), and DVD-ROM player. [Link]

Click to expand I have the same problem with " Cum in my mouth ... I'll spit it back in yours # 02 " ( DEVIL's FILM ) . I noticed that there is a little " bump " on the side readen by the laser . But I can't change the chapter , it still pauses and the only things I can do are " stop " or " off " . But it's certainly only a problem with a few pieces of this title , so I will exchange it . I'm not sure if this is because my player is "old" (purchased December 2001), but I got in touch with the manufacturer and they arranged to have my player fixed. I had to pay for postage to ship to the repair center, but they took great care of my player and I got it back within a couple weeks and ever since then, it's been able to play 99% of my DVDs. [Link]

Virtual Sex with Briana Banks was so fucked up I didn't hardly get to see her fuck. It pixelated its ass off the whole time, then froze when it felt like it. Rearview Kira Kener has a complex menu selection and half or more of the sections didn't even play. No problems with mainstream stuff so far. God it would piss me off if the extended Return of the King screws up after waiting all this time for it. So are we all faced with a trip to WalMart to get their cheapo new DVD players every 2 years now? That blows. (in a bad way) I don't think it's a conspiracy. Somebody in the DVD creation process is being inconsiderate as hell though. There should be a big announcement by the DVD overlords if they're going to be dumping incompatibility problems on us. There should be a guideline made known to all so that consumers can avoid frustration. Maybe the cutting edge innovators don't know they're retarded? They needed to do more testing before they changed their manufacturing methods? Smells like irresponsibility. This could become a major setback for the entertainment industry if we're only seeing the tip of the iceberg of a growing problem! I believe it has to do with somewhat loose standards on how the discs can be mastered. I have 4 different players here and they all handle discs differently. Click to expand Private Reality 20 as in your review was prodiced 2003/08 and I have The Private Life of Laura Angel prod: 2003/12, which is more recent and plays faultlessly, so I'd say you disk was defective, and you should probably return it. The one I ordered recently, Maid To Be Laid had similar problems, and I have returned it. My supplier told me they have had a number of problems with the same DVD and will get Private themselves to 'clean it'. Maybe you should do that.
