If anyone has tried Erovideo.nl please tell me how long the order took and how was the experience. They have about 5 PRIVATE dvds (that I want) that aren't released here in the states.

Steve,
I haven't bought from Erovideo.nl, but I figured that I would remind you that it is highly liklely that, although these DVD's probably aren't region coded, they are in the PAL format.

Unless you own a DVD player that will convert from PAL to NTSC, or a TV that will accept a PAL signal, you will have problems with DVD's purchased from Europe.

If you don't have a converting DVD player, but are interested in getting one, let me know. There are a few out there and I used to have some links to reviews and retailers of these players. I can probably find them if you want them.

Thanks for the info...I figured I would play it safe and just wait for the PRIVATE dvds to be released here in the up & coming weeks. They do have a cool site.

Hi,

it takes 1-2 weeks for an order to arrive to US. service was nice, dvd's came without boxes(they'll send them separately if you'll request), but 'artwork' was included. i asked to send my dvds in two shipements, and so they did. e-mail responce was quick (less than 1 day).

as far as PAL goes...you can always watch them on your PC or buy a DVD player that does both ( http://www.dvdcity.com/ ), but it is kinda expensive and I'm not sure about the quality of conversion. If somebody knows I would appreciate info as one day I'll be back in europe:-)

Format conversion is pretty regular topic at avsforum.com. I no longer follow the forum on a regular basis, but last year there used to be concensus that anything exept Malata N996 does an unwatchable job in converting. The Malata used some new chipset which wasn't their own design but available to all hardware manufacturers, so there's gotta be some newer models from others as well. With a quick search I could find comparative discussion of few new prog. scan players by JVC using the same electronics (link).

Another candidate could be the new Nintaus that has excellent picture on native PAL/NTSC progressive scan and also does conversions at some quality. link .
