I've decided to attempt another foray into contemporary narrative hardcore movies. The last time I tried this, I picked based on reviews and the results were disastrous. Essentially, the movies I got where a bunch of non stop sex films with occasional talking between the sex scenes. NOT what I'm going for. If you have read any of my posts, you probably know I'm one of the few people who actually digs what people refer to as "art porn." So, the more (and better) story, the more "artiness", the high the production values, the better the acting=a good movie. Now that that's over with, here are the films I'm considering. What do you guys think? P.S. Feel free to recommend anything I don't have here. But I have to admit that of the ones you listed I've only seen "Black Worm", which I like a lot and definitely recommend. I also recommend "The Fashionistas" (I don't know if you have seen it or not). From what I know about the movies on your list, it looks like feature porn has made a comeback. The filmmakers remembered to put the "feature" part in their movies. By the way, where I can buy "Dolores Of My Heart"? I can't find it anywhere. [Link]

I held off putting on this list because Mr. Skin keeps promising to give me a copy so I'm gonna hold off on actually spending money on it til he says he's gonna keep the thing for himself. I too have heard lots of good about Black Worm and am looking. forward to it. I actually thought of this after reading the cover story of this month's AVN on how features are making a comeback. I've seen some of the films they mentioned and was very disappointed by them mainly because they barely had any actual STORY in them, just dialogue filler between painfully long sex scenes. Blue Movie-The 1989 film?I liked this one,it was a fun movie.Plus,it has two of my favorites,Shanna McCullough and Megan Leigh... [Link]

I saw the trailer for Succubus but I was afraid it would be mainly sex with little to no actual good narrative development. It's actually rather like an XXX horror film I'm working on myself... I read your review of Black Worm and was happy to read that the sex scenes are closer to the length they were in many 70s/80s films (meaning 5/6 min tops). I always hate when an X rated film which works cinematicly destroys the mise-en-scene through a long, tedious sex scene. Pulpo movies sound very much like what I'm after. [Link]

I like it that the movie is only 98 minutes long. It's the right length for a theatrical release. Which leads me to my next comment........ I recently wrote to Pulpo because I want them to get "Black Worm" shown at the Sunset 5 in Los Angeles as a midnight feature. The person I wrote to seemed to be interested in that. She asked me how to get in contact with Laemmle Theatres (they operate the Sunset 5), and of course I gave her the best information I could. There aren't any plans for that right now, but I hope it will eventually happen. I think the movie could be a cult classic. [Link]

If you liked that one you should check out "Fast Cars & Tiki Bars" too, I think. that was really cool. "Raw Hide" is nicely done but is too much outdoor sex for me. "Fashion Underground" was not my cup of tea but I think it is worth checking it out. As a recommendation I can say that I liked "The Craving" pretty much. It is nicely done Vignette that features sex approaches to fairy tales. If you're into the whole "alt-porn" stuff you should check out "The Rebelle Rousers". It's rather a vignette but it is nicely done from the sex to the locations, outfits and soundtrack. [Link]

Bill Margold told me they're maybe going to do another XXX midnight show at the beginning of next month and Black Worm sounds like it could work as a great second film to make a double feature. Click to expand I didn't think about that, but now that you mentioned it I may contact them. They should show a porno film at midnight every month (the New Beverly Cinema was a porn theatre until 1977). I think the Sunset 5 would be the better theatre to screen "Black Worm", but if Laemmle Theatres isn't interested then I hope the New Beverly Cimena will be. We'll see what happens. By the way, the person from Pulpo who wrote back to me is Julia Park, who is the producer of "Black Worm". [Link]

The Misty Beethoven has a lot of story and production value in it but it is pretty far out there in parts.(How do you feel about a singing penis?) Most of these are several years old but some more suggestions: (All of these are from Wicked) The Gate DreamQuest Hercules Space Nuts The last two are comedies but have a lot of production value and are actually pretty funny. Click to expand I'm a huge fan of everything Metzger so I was more worried about this film being a bastardization of Metzger's masterpiece. But I've heard enough positive things about it to give it a shot. I'm not looking for stroke material at all so the more intentionally un-erotic something is, the better. Some of my favorite X Rated films are Through The Looking Glass, Cafe Flesh, and Baccahanale (none of which were in the lest bit meant to arouse). Click to expand Yup. It was just The Beverly and it was owned by Bill Osco and Howard Ziehm (you can see it in a few of Ziehm's "Harry Hopper" films including City of Sin). I second that. They should show an X film each month. I'm maybe going to lend them some of my prints to show but I'm always wary of getting them back damaged. I'd love to see The Tiffany Minx, The Taking of Christina, Sex World, 3 AM, Tongue, etc. in a theatre with an audience and I have them all (and 50+ more) on 16mm and 35mm. [Link]

Zazel is a vignette rather than narrative movie, and The Massuese 3 - which is very good - is only available in a severley cut edition. Of the films you've listed - and that I've seen - Blue Movie is an enjoyable and interesting comedy, Rush is a pretty good adult thriller with a couple of extraneous scenes, and Watchers, well, it's been a long time but I remember it as being dark and intelligent. Euphoria isn't bad as an eye-candy but is a little on the long side. One of the best adult films of the last ten years is The Awakening - and there's a review of that on the front page at present. Les Vampyres is also great. I take it you've seen the John Leslie movies, Fresh Meat and Dog Walker? You can actually find reviews of many of these films from the IMDB, by the way. [Link]

No Limits and Dark Angels are now off the list (their trailers made them look better than average but as I've found out many times before, modern porn trailers are deceiving). Les Vampyres I hadn't heard of but i'll investigate. I've seen the 1915 Louis Feuillade film of the same name, but I doubt they are at all related (although it would be kinda neat to see an XXX remake of ANY Feuillade film). I wrote that review of The Awakening (my review handle is classix comments). That film really surprised me. It was intelligently written, well directed, and extremely compelling. The sex didn't feel out of place but rather augmented the story. All the other new XXX I've seen pales in comparison. [Link]

As for Les Vampyres, I think its primary debt is to erotic horror films like Daughters of Darkness. And speaking of darkness, you really can't go wrong with Dog Walker. [Link]

I'm sure that those movies will attract the same crowd that goes to see movies such as "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" and "The Room". In other words, they would attract cult film fans. [Link]
