I just noticed that TLAVideo exclusively (or so they say) have a 2 DVD set call the Wakefield Poole Collection. Included in the set are the 3 pre-condom flicks: Bijou, Boys in the Sand, anad Boys in the Sand 2 (completely restored by the director).

I've never seen any of these, but I'm tempted to pick this up, just because I love pre-condom porn so much. Has anyone seen them? Are they any good?

Well....dating myself here, but I saw Boys in the Sand when it first came out. I seem to remember getting really turned on at the theatre watching it. It was groundbreaking porn for the time. I recently read Wakefield Poole's autobiography, "Dirty Poole" and it has some stills from the picture in it. They look way less erotic than I remember. I suspect the features will not hold up too well if for no other reason that the technical standards. They were shot ion 16mm film and printed on film, so will most likely be a bit grainy companred to today;s crystal clear video images.

I watched a tape of old Buckshot 16mm loops from the same era and they look pretty poor.

Hope the restoration improved things. Poole was a pioneer in Gay Porn. And from what I understand a pretty good pro-chef now.

Well, I met Wakefield and Joe Cage last night at the Gay Erotic Expo last night and was able to obtain an advanced copy of this.
I'll try and get a review up by weeks end as well as a brief note about the show.

Well, I hope it does turn out to be good, as I ended up ordering it a last week. I wasn't going to, but then I found a page at tla that had some very yummy screenshots and I lost all resolve and took the plunge.

It's kind of interesting... the main reason I was thinking of passing this by, was the titles "Boys in the Sand" and "Boys in the Sand 2". I was expecting somewhat of a twinkfest. The dudes in those screenshots look pretty damn manly, though, so I'm sure I'll dig it.

How was the rest of the expo netguy? Did you take alot of pictures? Were there tons of hot, half naked guys there??

I just posted a brief note about the expo on the other thread...but yes there were lots of hot guys there.....I only took a few pics of some "stars" but it was fun......see the other thread for more...

I'm hoping to watch Boys in the Sand tonight....will let you know!

Have you watched any of this yet, Netguy? I've breezed through some of it, and I have to say my initial impressions aren't too positive.

These 3 flicks have something in common with most of the late 70's porn I've seen: a whole lotta walkin.

It's almost as if they said:

And then there's that interview with Poole in the bonus section of disc 2. I watched it for about 5 seconds, and then had to turn it off. There's just something about 2 70+ year old guys talking about porn that gives me the willies...
