Are all Vivid DVD-s "family-oriented" censored versions that you can safely show to your kids ? I bought Lotus and Bad Vives and they certainly don't match VHS desriptions on [url=468634]www.iafd.com, i.e. all hardcore is gone.

You must have cable versions. Are there any stickers on the case?

Yes there was. Does that mean there are 2 versions of, say, Lotus around and you'll never know in advance which one you'll get ? Even Vivid's website doesn't say there are two versions. Does that mean I can't buy adult stuff at "mainstream" stores like DVDExpress cause if I do I get cheated and won't probably even know about it unless I compare the movie with a detailed script at iafd.com ?

Vivid has 7 DVDs available in both cable and regular versions. If you mistakenly received the wrong version then you should contact your retailer and get an exchange.
Just out of curiosity, did the retailer not indicate that it was cable?

Of course not. Caligula is actually the only movie which has information available about two differently rated versions being around. You are actually the first source to give me solid information on the subject. No stores appear to have this information available, neither do sites like AdultDVDFile , AdultDVDReviews or iafd.com
I could return Lotus (to 800.com) but I'd rather exchange it for full version and I don't think I can do that. Bad Wives came from Mass Music and I really don't want to mess around with them too much.

Alan,
There are cable versions of many XXX DVDs. Most online retailer do not indicate the difference because they only carry one of the two versions. (i.e. 800.com only carries the cable/mature themed titles while dvdxtreme.com only carries the hardcore stuff.) A few sites do carry both versions. There are a few titles at Divadee that have "Cable Version" in parenthesis after the title in search results and on the product pages.
I wouldn't exactly call the cable versions "family-oriented". They just don't show the up close and personal explicit stuff.

This is hardly any kind of justification. They should indicate clearly what they sell. How the hell am I supposed to know that I can't get the adult versions from DVDExpress or 800.com if I don't know any other versions even exist ? Without five_star, I'd still be totally in the dark.
The studios should give out information on this, too.
Why the hell do they need to press those censored disks anyway ? I's like pressing separate disks for French and English subtitles. I thought the multibranching and parental control features of DVD were perfect to give different "tameness" levels on one and same disk ?
>I wouldn't exactly call the cable versions "family-oriented".
'Twas merely a humble attempt of sarcasm.

What do you think I'd be buying porn for ? It's definitely not for the storyline and character development, trust me

I think one of the main reasons the studios make a cable version is so they can sell the product into certain geographic regions and though a greater number of sales outlets.
I'm not up on obscenity laws throughout the country but I would guess that it's legal to sell cable versions in many places where possessing the uncut version could get you a date with Bubba in county cell block #6.
I do agree that the lack of information regarding cable vs. uncut is unacceptable and borders on misrepresentation in some instances.

There's a strong market for these edited films broadcast-wise, and they're typically sold in major electronic and music stores as well.
Bottom line: buy your hardcore at adult sites, or make sure you know which version you're getting.
I'm sure we all agree that many people have gotten screwed over by this. Mainstream stores should be much clearer about it--but that's the way it stands right now...
Norm McDonald does a great comic routine about these cable-porn films--the kind they show in hotel rooms, Playboy channel, etc. He asks: just what market do they THINK they're serving?? What kind of a guy is watching a porn film, getting hard, whacking off, then getting offended by the close-ups?? "Gee, it was a totally hot movie, until they showed that penetration shot--Ewwww! Ick!"
Pretty f**kin' ridiculous...
BTW: It only takes 10 posts to move from "Virgin" to "Veteran". Your mother would be shocked!
