I'm talking about the official , bonafide , from the US versions of EA titles . Are these DVDs made for region 1 or are they multiregion ? The thing is , they play on my DVD player so it would be good to know if it's handling foreign discs . For why ? Well I've got my eye on the American release of the Alien Quadrilogy as it's got far sexier packaging than the cheap looking British version . Will it play on my scussy player or has the time finally come to invest in a better one ?

The EA discs I've checked say 'No regional coding'.
Perversely, to play all regions you usually have to invest in a worse/cheaper one; the expensive big brand players are usually the ones that won't let you play all regions.

Absolutely right!! I have 2 DVD players: One is a "leading brand" player which I've had re-coded (naughty I know!) to play discs from all regions, the other is a "no-name", grey market unit which was multi-region when I bought it.

While there's no noticeable difference between the two in terms of picture and sound quality, the "leading brand" player is much less troublesome: For example I can fast forward & reverse at a speed of x32, whereas on the no-name unit the maximum speed is x8. Also, on maybe 10% of my disks, the no-name player "freezes" and jumps back to the main menu if I try to scan at any faster than x2, a problem that doesn't arise on the "leading brand" player. This can be a complete pain in the arse when watching porn, though it matters less for mainstream.

All of the US EA discs I've watched (probably 100 or so) are region free.

Damn !

Thanks for the help guys , but it looks like I may have to buy a new player . I checked that DVDhelp site , but it appears that no recognized hack has yet been developed for my current machine .

I'll bear in mind the possible freezing problems , when deciding just how cheap I'm going to be .

Not by default anyway. There are hacks for almost every DVD player that will get them to do this. I have an NAD DVD player and discovered the "secret code" to reprogram it to allow all regions - even though, by default, this is supposed to be impossible. You can do a Google search on your player/model and probably come up with a way of making yours region-free.

I've tried two different Ass Collector Disc One DVDs and neither is compatible with my RCA DVD player. It simply won't read--I get the "incompatible DVD" message.

But all other Evil Angel discs and Ass Collector Disc Two have all been compatible.
