I was just wondering this when I saw Raven Bay go as Caucasian on all of her sites. Now she's part white and also part Jamaican. However, she is darker than a lot of mixed people that I know yet she can still pass as white in the industry. Misty stone is about her color and missed out on a lot of work strictly because she labeled herself as black, which in all honesty most people would see both raven and misty as black just walking down the street. People rarely recognize mixed race people casually. That being said there's never been a light skinned black male performer who tried to pass as white before. Do you think if a guy who's shane diesel's color or jake steed's could be considered white in the industry? I mean Ravens always called herself white from day one and no one's questioned it. So do you think IR dodgers would do a scene with a light skinned black guy? I always wondered why Carlo Carrera (a lighter Afro Cuban) got work in the industry as non interracial. I think if black guys want to be more successful the lighter ones should label themselves white? Do you think it would give black studs more work? Let me know what you guys think.

I don't think racial labelling is either necessary or desirable. Because this can lead to racism.
When you have many people of mixed race in the country, then there is no clear dividing line between the races any more. Any line you draw will be totally an artificial one.

Caucasian doesn't actually mean white.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caucasian_race
The vast majority of African-Americans and Caribbean people are mixed-race/multiracial. And I wouldn't mind betting that most white Americans are too.
If "black" means a person who (from their facial features and/or skin tone) obviously has Sub-Saharan African heritage I wouldn't describe Raven Bay as black. Although she probably does have some Sub-Saharan African heritage if she is part Jamaican.
There are white Jamaicans though btw.

The whole human species is of Sub-Saharian origin , whites are mutants adapted to better survive during the Ice Ages
Can't see a true purpose here

Obviously, we'd love to live in a world where race doesn't matter. But the plain and simple is that black pornstars just dont get hired as much as their white counterparts. So. I was wokdering if you think it's okay for light skinned black performers to follow the model of Raven Bay and not Misty Stone to get more work?

You could have the same argument over people who are half white/half asian athough they're certainly not as discriminated against as blacks in the porn industry are.

Brazzers apparently think Raven Bays is a Latina.
The thing that gets me is how obsessed Americans (US Americans that is) seem to be with race.
I'm from the UK. I must have been about 21 or 22 when I first heard someone describe Shirley Bassey as black. I overheard some guys at work talking about her, and one of them said: "You just don't like her because she's black."
And I was like: Huh? Shirley's black?
I must have seen her more than a hundred times on TV while I was growing up and I had honestly never thought about what colour she is. To me she was just "our Shirley". No one I knew ever called her Afro-British, or Black British, or anything like that. But I knew she was from Wales, so someone must have told me she was Welsh.
But anyway yes, now I know her dad was black and her mum was white. So I guess that makes her "black" to some people.

You can consider them whatever you want, I suppose.
I find it rather odd that I really like watching Bethany Benz -- the only performer on my A list, B list or C list that I'm aware meets the criterion -- getting fucked by a white guy, but I don't bother at all with scenes where she's getting fucked by a black guy.

I personally think it shows the hypocrisy in the porn industry that someone like Raven Bay can call herself white and get work. But guys and girls like Jake Steed, Marie Luv, Taylor Luxx who all are around Raven's color have to get categorized into IR movies. It shows the lengths lighter blacks have to go through just to get more work in the industry. It makes no sense.

One of the most interesting things along these lines was porn pornstar Mika Brown. Mika Brown was labelled as a black performer that quite honestly never did much for me. Then there's latina pornstar Havana Ginger who I'm a big fan of and couldn't get enough of at one point. The funny thing about all this that they're both the same person.

Of course. That already happens.
The porn industry seems to always be 50 years behind the rest of the world on everything, whether it's the issue we're seeing now with the HIV outbreak, or the issue of racism. The industry has a backwards way of thinking on everything.
My grandparents and great-grandparents would tell stories about how, back in their day, black people who were light enough to "pass" often did so in order to benefit from social privileges that were otherwise not availalable to black people. The same thing happens in porn today. How else do we see white girls who claim not to do IR performing in scenes with guys who could clearly be identified as black?
Look at guys like Tony T., Carlo Carrera, Bruno Dickems, that guy Tony from TeamSkeet, etc. I identify myself as African-American (though I'm often mistaken as everything else under the sun). Yet, all of these guys are darker in complexion than I am, and darker than most of the people in my family. In fact, these guys all look like they could probably be in my family. However, they all get to perform in scenes with non-IR white girls simply because they can identify as other ethnicities besides black. Do they look black? Of course they do. But because they don't racially identify as black, they're not considered "black" by the industry, and non-IR white girls will still perform in scenes with them.
It makes no absolutely no sense. But as I already said, it's just another example of backwards illogical thinking in the industry.
If you're a black male porn performer who can get away with "passing" as something else, then you'd be crazy not to do it. Otherwise, you're just limiting yourself to stereotypical roles, widespread discrimination, and half the girls in the industry refusing to work with you. If you just call yourself something else, all that changes.

Carlo Carrera could pass for a Southern Italian too , his name does sound Italian too (Carlo is Italian for Charles , in Spanish or Portuguese it should be Carlos)
Even I can tan more than that and I'm a European French-Italian
But another Example could be Ramon , the Cuban one, when he finds it fit he passes as a Black (in the Monster of Cock series and in some IR DVD issues) when he finds convenient he says to be a white Cuban
EDIT
Carlo Carrera is actually Karlo whose origin I can't guess, Karl is Charles in German though

Do you think the chick Cameron Bay is fully white? She has a Black American father and a Croatian mother.

There is a pornstar named Winston Burbank, he mainly shoots POV scenes (to mask his kinky afro hair texture) for Jonni Darkko. His skin is visibly white though, but I can't find pictures of him anywhere.

Yep, yep, yep, in a scene shot for Monsters of Cock years back, Madison Ivy (non-IR) referred to his cock as a 'brown cock'(don't know what that means), and he also shot a scene with Missy Stone, who also didn't do IR scenes. This American porn market never seizes to amaze me.
