The reality is the more you rent, the less they earn. Every "netflix" like porn rental site I've tried is speedy during the first month, and then they slow down.

I'm using Bush DVD right now and they've been getting slower with each passing month. That said, I still feel they currently have the best service out there.

It cheaper to purchase some stuff then rental why go thru the hassle, i thought long and hard about it and i still cant find the advantage.

There are thousands of items out there you can purchase below $10.00 these days! buying and maybe trading with someone or even selling it used at an auction is a much better way to go, also you have a larger selection at retail online stores then rental ones, most don't have a great selection and the time is a big factor.

Buying 100 DVDs @ $15/avg = $1500
Sell 80 used DVDs that I don't want @ 30% discount = -$840
Total to buy 20 discs I want to keep: $660

Renting 100 DVDs/year @ $20/month = $200
Buy 20 new DVDs that I want @ $15/avg = $300
Total to rent and then buy 20 discs I want: $500

Savings = $160 (or about 10 DVDs worth), not to mention saving the hassle of selling and sitting on used inventory...not to mention paying auction/consignment commission, packaging materials, postage, and a trip to the post office. I usually have about 50 dvds over at adultdvdmarketplace that don't move for months, and I can never get anything close to what I paid for them, especially competing against the lowest price retailers.

It may not make sense for some people (hence the business opportunity for rental services), but for high-volume viewers and those with expensive tastes, it's definitely worth it.

Wow, 12 titles in a week or so! All of them came right to my mailbox and I could keep them for as long (or short) as I wanted. (I recently upgraded to 6 DVDs at a time which costs around the same as purchasing two DVDs: $27 plus tax.)

To be honest, I'm pretty quick with some of the DVDs, probably about half I am pretty unimpressed with (even though they are from what I think are great studios/directors and have been highly reviewed here---for whatever reason it just wasn't "my thing".) All of which is even better reason to rent. I can always buy favorites later.

(I should note that I live close to the rental company distribution center and shipping is only 1 or 2 days which might not be typical for some renters---still I would think an active renter could grab 15 DVDs per month depending on the plan.)

Most rental companies the larger they get will find that its not going to be profitable for them to carry that many new releases and have them out for a long period of time, the money doesnt add up.

I dont see the rental business in porn being able to do what the mainstream companies do. Maybe a buy back program is a better route to take, buy the movie and return it for credit on another purchase, i guess it would server the same purpose as renting the movie and this way we could still sell the movie as used, i think this makes much more sense, we are considering doing something like this.

Slowing you down would be a really bad idea. Why? Because people get pissed off about it even if they only suspect a company might do it. What do pissed off customers do? They go elsewhere.

Yes, I also subscribed to the same online rental place, and found them to be sitting on my orders. I subscribed for 3DVD rental. The maximum I could rent was twice (I live in MA). That is 6 movies for $20, for movies which are all my second choice, and on the top of it I have to call long distance several times to confirm the order or change the movies. They have tons of movies in the catalog, but few are available, when you actually rent them.

I suspect that there is some algorithm in place to ensure that people pretty much get what they would get were they to rent the flicks.

Some how I don't like this monthly Fee business models. It looks like all the Adult DVD rentals have copied the online rental giant Netflix(dot)com model. Since most people in this forum, have more than one membership at online rentals, I suggest the following model of business.

1. $10 membership fee (expires if inactive for 1year), and each movie is rented at $2.50 per movie (OR $3.33 /movie) and it will be $10 minimum rental, which means 3 or 4DVDs must be rented at a time.

This way customers can have memberships at several places and rent only those titles which they like and not unnecessary junk from the queue. This way the businesses also will be happy as every order they fill, they make money. In fact they will be looking forward to receiving your DVDs so that they can fill in your next order.

In the Eighties it was different. One has to go to downtowns discreetly and shop around, and pay big bucks, for a sealed movie or book. This is Internet age, and the prices have to come down. Look what happened to the music industry, the price of CD came down to 9.99 from 18.99.

In fact the #1 business on Internet is porn, and there isn't a single rental giant with good inventory and pleasant customer service.

Secondly ripping a disk to watch later is not piracy, not by the legal definition nor by the common sense one. Piracy is the reselling of multiple copies. This occurs, but not with dvd rentals, when one would be better off with a brand new disk as a "master."

These rental companies are all trying to ramp up the number of customers, which is the only determination of revenue, and the bad ones then try and limit rentals per costomer.

The fact is most people only want to watch a rental once. with a monthly-charge model the costomer has an incentive to watch it quickly and then return it to maximize his value. That doesnt make him/her a "thief" or a "pirate." It is the natural behaviour created by the rental company's own business model.

Conversely, if you pay $4 to rent a movie at blockbuster for three or seven days you are likly to keep it the full length of time regardless in order to maximize your value.

The fact is these companies advertise unlimited rentals. they ought to fully expect people to keep movies one day or for that matter a few hours, as monthly rental by mail themselves are intentionally providing that incentive in order to distinguish themselves and compete with bricks and morter stores that can provide instant rental.
