I think parodies jumped the shark once they made movies using cartoon characters like The Smurf, The Flinstones, The Simpsons. Thew hottest woman will never look hot under blue makeup or looking like Madge Simpson. There's a Three Stooges porn movie. I watched plenty of their movies when I was younger and not once did I think that seeing Larry, Curly or Moe have sex was something we all needed to see. I much prefer when they use the original material for their inspiration but add the XXX aspect to it. Why can't they remake some of the great xxx movies of the past? How about a new version of Behind The Green Door, Barbara Brdoacast, Seduction of Lyn Carter and I could name so many more movies. All the companies who tried to jump on the bandwagon and slapped together a weak parody movie may have had some success with it at first but people evenually catch on and stop buying the weaker product. The ones who put out the better stuff will have better results. I'm not a big fan of parodies but if they've got an audience and continue to get mainstream attention and non-porn buyers in shops or buying DVDs why would I want them to go away? Also, trying to predict the next "big thing" is a waste of time. Everyone enjoys or hates different things in porn. Some things that some may feel are very important to them the next person probably could care less about. At the end of the day all a studio can do is try to get the best girls they can and film it to the best of their abilities and hope people respond to it. More cameras, bigger crews, shooting on more expensive film, often times more location shoots, longer shooting schedules, harder/longer to edit back then, etc...I remember Seka in an interview saying how little girls get paid in porn during the 2000s vs when she did it but I don't know if that's entirely true. Today's non-contract girls mostly get paid for one scene and it's shot in a few hours. Back in Seka's day when she did a movie she was probably doing 2 to 3 sex scenes and a lot more acting and some of those movies took more than a day to shoot. Seka made more but also did a lot more for her money so there probably isn't that big a difference if you broke down the amount of work for the amount of pay for a girl back during Seka's time vs a girl during the 2000s era. But then again Seka might be a bad comparison because she was probably the highest paid star in her time. [Link]

Not only was there no tv, computers, video games, internet, etc., but there wasn't a new movie every week back then like there is during modern times. It's much easier to have big numbers when your competition is almost non-existant for so many years. I'm not saying GWTW isn't a great movie or saying that many people went to see it over the years but I think it's just much much harder and more impressive for a movie today with so many other forms of entertainment and competing with other movie to do AVATAR, TITANIC and AVENGERS boxoffice.
