1) How do you define "promiscuous'? By counting the number of sexual encounters a person has in a week? The number of partners? The variety of sex acts they engage in? (For instance, a person who decides to have sex with a one-legged transsexual midget just because they are curious to find out what it is like might be judged more promiscuous than a person who has a threesome because their partner really wants it, they love their partner, and they want their partner to be sexually happy.) Would a person who pays another person to watch him/her masturbate on webcam be more promiscuous than a person who performs the exact same act for hundreds of paying viewers? Does it matter how his/her partner feel about webcamming? Is promiscuity a derived statistic that combines a number of other statistics?
2) What do you mean by "the average person"? Do you mean the average human being living on the Earth? The average young adult living in Los Angeles? What about other factors: For instance, I would imagine that the average porn star doesn't come from a family that could afford private school, SAT tutors, college, and medical school all while providing an allowance to cover rent and day-to-day living expenses. Do you control for socioeconomic factors? Do you control for religion?
3) Finally, how would you collect data? The average porn star may be more likely to answer a survey accurately than the "average person". This possibility alone might make any serious inquiry meaningless. (Keep in mind, the average virgin may be as likely to lie as the average slut.)
Even if you could overcome these hurdles, there might be a more interesting question than whether the averages between the two populations ("porn stars" and "average people") differ. I suspect that if you came up with some way to measure "promiscuity", you might find that the averages differ much less than the amount of variation within each population. In fact the porn star population may be heavily "bimodal" with distinct groupings, some porn stars may not be at all promiscuous in their personal life, but those pornstars who are somewhat promiscuous may be extremely promiscuous.
But anything we might say on the matter would be little more than guesswork, and I don't think the question can be answered.
