Becasue of all of these options, some DVD players handle certain discs better than others. There are some discs that I have had problems with my PC DVD player and other discs that have had problems in my stand alone player.

IMO, the biggest advantage that PC DVD players have is the ability to update the firmware with a download. This helps the manufacturers eliminate conflicts. The firmware in some stand-alone players is updatable by burning a file to a cd and then inserting the cd into the player. However, not many manufacturers are taking advantage of this capability.

BTW, the incompatibility problem isn't limited to adult DVD manufacturers. There have been compatibility problems from DVD's produced by MGM and Columbia in the past. Usually it's when the manufacturer tries to do something new and special on a DVD that the incompatibilities occur. However, mainstream companies have more time and resources to devote to ensuring that their multi-million dollar releases have no problems than their adult counterparts do.
