My own list would include such luminaries as Ginger Lynn, Ashlyn Gere, Tera Patrick, Jenna Haze ... But the purpose of this post is not to get into a debate about who the "superstars" are. It's to ask who the superstars of the future are, and what it would take in today's market to become one? Given the plethora of websites, the decline of studio influence, the number of women who burn out, retire, or, having made a name for themselves, move on to high-dollar escorting after only a few months (not a new phenomenon, I know), and other factors affecting today's porn market, what does it take to set a woman head-and-shoulders above the pack these days, and, assuming she had the desire and skills to get there, how would she do so? Superstars are a phenomenon of the studio system. But the days when VCA, Wicked, DP and Vivid were strong enough to built up a contract girl to superstardom are over. |

The ability / skills to move into directing would also be a plus. Having one great scene after another, of course, would aid a performer in getting to the top, too. I don't think that the era of the superstar performer is necessarily over--it just might take a lot more effort and / or a multi-pronged approach to get to that level these days. |

First, she has to be a good performer, with good looks and a good personality that comes across on screen. Second, she has to actually want to be a porn superstar, instead of just using porn as a means to furthering her feature dancing and/or escorting careers. Third, she has to be a good self promoter, and if she can inspire loyalty from a core fan base, so much the better. Fourth, she has to no let herself get burned out or shot out in just a few months, and try to be selective in what jobs she takes. I'm not talking about not doing any particular sex acts, I mean she should avoid scenes that revel in bad taste and misogyny. |

| Draxxx Senior Member 3831 Posts 2/07 | If you mean "superstar" in the sense of a pornstar who's the best known outside of porn by the mainstream...Maybe I'm missing something but I'd have to say Tera Patrick is probably the most well known pornstar still working. When Jenna Jameson was a big deal Tera was able to piggyback that to the point that even though she's probably less visible now she's still remembered for the time she was more visable. If you mean "superstar" in terms of making the most appearances and gigs outside of porn...It may be Stormy. I don't know it personally for a fact but going by the talk here it sounds like she is. Stormy seems to be out there but it's not quite the same type of exposure that Jenna and Tera got. It seems like Jenna and Tera got their exposure because they were pornstars. Stormy seems to be getting exposure and happens to be a pornstar. If you mean "superstar" being judged on being in demand in porn, great performer and the girl who gets the most people excited overall...I'd say it's Sasha Grey. Sasha is usually in the deal production movies, moves around around the industry from feature to gonzo from big budget to cheap down and dirty, still gets boxcovers for most of the movies she does. As a performer she pretty much does it all and hits pretty much fetish/genre of porn. Also as a performer she delivers the goods pretty much every time. I know some people will say Jenna Haze over Sasha but Jenna isn't as versatile (my opinion) as Sasha. I think Jenna is big but in a smaller niche'. |

He has star power in a way that the mainstream seems to enjoy (as evidenced by his brief South Park appearance and his unexpected Superbowl "interruption"...). |
| empires Member 66 Posts 4/09 | so yeah Sasha is definitely head and shoulders above the pack, only 3 years into her career her fucking Youtube video about eating sperm has 1.9 million views i admit i was a doubter who thought she would burn out quick. it turns out she really is as serious as she claimed |
| melt Pornstar Diplomat The pride of Manchester 3763 Posts 1/09 | There are a number of what I would call "A" class performers eg Sasha - Jenna - Bobbi just to name a few of perhaps 20 or 30 in the first league. For anyone to stand out head and shoulders above the others is unlikely but that is what a superstar would have to do. Each one of those 20 or 30 has a loyal following but it is unlikely that there would be agreement amongst us porn addicts as to which 2 or 3 are really superstars. What I am trying to say is I think in todays market it is unlikely that 2 or 3 girls can be singled out as being vastly superior to perhaps the 30 odd girls who would make up the premier league of pornstars. |

| Derek117 Senior Member 1605 Posts 1/06 | Stormy and Sasha and Jesse have some name recognition outside of porn, but not as much as Jenna Jameson has--even now. Mary Carey has major name recognition outside of porn, but for all the wrong reasons. Plus, Mary's sexvids were never good on any level-- from couples to gonzo. Jenna Haze is racking up most of the industry awards right now, but is not known outside of porn. If you went into a college class and said the name "Stormy Daniels" or "Jenna Haze" the guys would know who she is, but if you said "Jenna Jameson" both the guys and the girls would know her. Bottom line: being a "superstar" is about "industry domination" and nobody, before or since, has ever done it at the level of Jenna Jameson. |
| monkey power Member Tim? 868 Posts 1/03 | In this climate, if someone wanted to launch herself into the stratusphere she would have to use the new model of celebrity: She'd have to go the Lohan route. Become the darling of the daily media, the tabloid photographers. And she'd have to give them something huge as a reason to follow her to the grocery store for months. Say for example that a stripper type woman was the reason for Brad and Angelina's breakup, and that Brad and Angelina's breakup became a year-long media event. Then, on top of that, let's say the starlet turned around and gave the media something they really liked and could get long-term mileage out of: what if she told reporters that she "did it for Aniston." Imagine! "That's right, I did it all for Jennifer Aniston because I always felt she got such a raw deal from Brad Pitt, so I wanted to use my body to bring some sexual justice to Aniston by breaking up Brad's new marraige!" This would make her the type of porn superstar you people are talking about as if it'll never exist again. Because tabloid media and "legit" media (which is increasingly becoming a laughable term) wouldn't care anymore that she was in porn--she'd be such a huge story that they couldn't ignore her because the population would be so intrigued. So my point is that it CAN happen again, the superstardom thing, it just hasn't because the circumstances haven't been right OR no starlet has put herself in the right "position" for it to happen. (And you're welcome for this roadmap to huge naked success.) |

| Draxxx Senior Member 3831 Posts 2/07 | The next "superstar" of the Jenna J. type from porn will have to do something that's exciting, scandalous, or "news worthy" to get press and the pornstar angle would just be icing on the cake. Personally, I don't think the porn biz needs or even benefits from that type of "superstar" overall. Yeah, Jenna made tons of money and got tons of recognition from the porn industry but did her presence help porn overall? |

Sasha is starting to get known outside of porn, and she is also a favorite of porn fans. I expect her to have a great career. |
