At the same time as the NCAA basketball turnament, a sports show a few years ago started a 64-woman "Tournament of Babes." This year another porn site conducted a 64-woman "Tournament of Sluts"--a porn star tournament--to pick their favorite porn star. Jenna Haze was the clear winner, beating all of her opponents by at least a 2-to-1 margin (except in the finals, when she "only" won with 65% of the vote--which is just one percentage point short of 2-to-1, anyway!). Here were the Top Ten. 1. Jenna Haze 2. Bree Olson 3. Taylor Rain 4. Tory Lane 5. Sasha Grey 6. Lexi Belle 7. Teagan Presley 8. Briana Banks 9. Belladonna 10. Amy Reid and Gianna Michaels (tie) As I look at this, I think it's not a bad list. Keep in mind that it's not supposed to be a list of who's currently selling the most DVDs or winning the most awards, but rather who folks like to see the most as their porn stars. Setting your own personal preferences aside, is there anyone on this list that surprises you, or anyone NOT on the list that surprises you? Or, anything that surprises you about the rankings?
Poll different audiences and you can get wildly different outcomes. Another popular porn forum provides daily, monthly and yearly listings of the most searched porn stars on their site. Judging popularity by who people are searching for. Last year and so far for the first three individual months this year Jenna Haze hasn't cracked the top 20. Unthinkable to most readers here at ADT. Their top 20 by searches last year, in order: Shyla Stylez, Priya Rai, Gianna Michaels, Eva Angelina, Lisa Ann, Audrey Bitoni, Carmella Bing, Amy Ried, Sara Jay, Ashlynn Brooke, Ava Devine, Rachel Roxx, Niki Benz, Phoenix Marie, Jenna Jameson, Rachel Starr, Abbey Brookes, Tera Patrick, Lichelle Marie, Cody Lane. Shyla Stylez was their most searched and clicked on for both 2007 and 2008 and yet didn't make your list. The forum I'm referring to seems to cater to a much more casual fan base. I consider ADT to be a pretty hard core group of porn fans. Yet another popular porn star site provides a yearly top 100 again based on who people were searching for. Jenna Haze came in 26th for 2008. In 2007 she was 55th. Again, criminal to many here at ADT where I expect her to win ADTs current ongoing "Fave Pornstar Contest" in the Polls section. The top ten there last year? In order, Jenna Jameson, Shyla Stylez, Tera Patrick, Eva Angelina, Audrey Bitoni, Briana Banks, Nikki Benz, Priya Rai, Jesse Jane, Amy Ried. Too many variables to ever have a definitive top ten pornstars. The best thing about porn is that theres something and someone for everyone.

It always surprises me that someone who has been out of the business for years still ranks this high in someone's poll. Or do they just not realize that Taylor retired?

I've got the following as my Top Ten of the last few years: 1. Jenna Haze 2. Monique Alexander 3. Keri Sable 4. Brea Bennett 5. Taylor Rain 6. Corina Taylor 7. Jenni Lee 8. Kayden Kross 9. Lena Nicole 10. Anais Alexander This, my friend, is a smoking list of girls.
I'd sort of agree, in that a current top 10 list HAS to have Rebeca in it and I'd add it has to have Bobbi Starr and Tori Black. Jenna, Sasha and Lexi are all sound choices but I'm not sure about the rest, being Current top 10 material. I'm not a fan of Gianna's (she not my type of girl) but I'd probably concede she should be there too.
For years there has been debates as to who is top and who isn't so I decided to try and take a more scientific approach to the matter. I looked at every bit of public data I could find like how many friends does each porn star have on MySpace, how many times per month does someone search their name in search engines, how popular is their official website, how many times have they been in magazines like Penthouse, Genesis, Hustler and Swank, how many followers do they have on Twitter, what is their OVT rating, what is their Google term frequency, how many awards have they won from XRCO, AVN and F.A.M.E. I took all of this data (updated every month) and compiled a list of 145 well known porn stars to come up with a list of the top porn stars at Fame Reigstry. It's not a perfect system but using public data is really the best system I could come up with. I mean it's easy to say oh well so and so has the most traffic to their official website so they are the best or so and so has the most friends on MySpace so they are the best or so and so has been on the cover of Penthouse and Hustler the most so they are #1 but when you combine all of these things you get a bigger picture. This month the top 10 from Fame Reigstry are ..... #1 Tera Patrick (Last Month # 1) #2 Jenna Haze (Last Month # 2) #3 Belladonna (Last Month # 4) #4 Jesse Jane (Last Month # 3) #5 Briana Banks (Last Month # 5) #6 Aria Giovanni (Last Month # 6) #7 Mary Carey (Last Month # 7) #8 Sunny Leone (Last Month # 9) #9 Gina Lynn (Last Month # 8) #10 Taylor Rain (Last Month # 11) Tera Patrick and Jenna Haze have been #1 and #2 for awhile now but you'll notice this month belladonna overtook Jesse Jane for the #3 spot. I think this is in large part to the hugee number of friends and followers she has on social networking sites like MySpace and Twitter. However to be most interesting this month is that Janine jumped from 55 last month to 28 this month. #28 Janine Lindemulder (Last Month # 55) Just for fun I also do things like who is the most popular Vivid girl (past or present). Who is the tallest and shortest porn star. I divide everyone up by birthday so you can click on your astrological sign (like mine is a Virgo) and see all the porn stars who are also born under your sign.

Well we all have our favorites but the system I used is based on publicly available data such as how many times per month someone goes to a major search engine and searches for the porn star's name or how many awards the performer has won. Truth is I think the system favors the older stars who are more established and have more fan sites, etc. dedicated to them but you do see newer stars like Hanna Hilton quickly rising up the charts as well. #86 Jayden James (Last Month # 85) #113 Rebecca Linares (Last Month # 117)
I think it's a very solid list. I don't know the works of Briana - too much Vivid stuff, I'm guessing? Teagan surprises me, too. But, she did beat Bella and Briana "heads" up, so to speak. Courtney is a favorite of mine, too, but she got beat by Cytheria in the first round. I'm glad someone here directed me to the ADT poll that's going on. However, it's producing some not just "surprising" downright strange results. Jewel DeNyle in the final 8? Monical Sweetheart as the No. 1 overall seed at this point? Some wierd stuff going on there.

Any poll that doesn't include Jenna Haze as one of the top ten, has something terribly wrong with it. I'm being serious. Also, ranking girls by the number of searches they receive on a given website, while interesting, is no indication of "top ten" (i.e. the top ten) girls. For example, I frequently will look up girls that interest me, and for many different reasons, but I wouldn't possibly consider 95%+ of them to be "top ten" girls. I would even argue that, I no longer search very often for top girls, like Jenna Haze, that are already known commodities to me (thus skewing statistics based on number of searches away from the really big performers). I do think that these various rankings and statistics from many differing sites are interesting, and do shed some light on girls that a broad range of visitors are interested in. On the other hand, I think that factors such as # box covers, # of units being sold, performer's fees they command (i.e. more than the going rate), signing at trade shows (i.e. the studios know who the fans want to meet), awards, etc. are more indicative of a performer's real "rankings." I may search for pics of a new performer -- but whose product am I buying?

Pornstar Network lists their top stars. I don't know if it's based on searches, downloads, or the answer comes from a mayonnaise jar kept on Funk and Wagnalls's porch.
