Nothing very surprising here, but maybe something for those predicting porn's demise to think about.
Porn is here to stay , as securely part of our entertainment culture as "regular Movies" or computer games.
A stronger female audience in addition to being good for the bottom line of producers who consider a woman audience in the design of their product, could even lower the incidence of piracy, which, thusfar, is statistically a predominantly male crime. Who knows? At any rate, this ain't bad news.

My wife masturbates herself hot to porn (usually) before we take to the flesh. I hear a lot of porn girls say in their films that they love porn. It's a new day....

The wife likes porn as well, but it has to be - as she puts it - "filthy in a clean way". Doesn't mean she into the whole fake 90s soft-focus crap, but she doesn't want to see tatooed white college douchebags with twig dicks instructed by babbling cameramen, girls with crotch pimples and basement locations with stained couches. Oh, and ever since she saw Nacho Vidal's disgustingly dirty fingernails in Buttman's Anal Show she refuses to even consider another one of his flics.
In contrast to that the recent Brazzers scene with Asa Akira ( Brazzers - I'm Looking for My Balls - linking the official site is allowed, right?) is a prime example for what she believes is woman-compatible porn. Action is hot and borderline kinky while the girl, guy and location are tremendous - she looks as healthy and manicured as a porn starlet could look, the dude is appropriately hung and well-groomed, fucking takes place in the pool area bathing in sunlight. Good stuff.
At the moment we're looking for an interracial gangbang flic or scene that features similar qualities, but it's rather hard to find. Minus the interracial part Wicked Pool Party #1 was quite good back in the days, but apart from that? Like most black gangbang projects the whole Blacks on Blondes stuff suffers from a remarkably unattractive male cast. Other productions feature girls looking drugged, disgusted or both. And let's not even talk about chemistry.
Isn't there some interracial gangbang action taking place somewhere nice with some hot low-key non-ghetto blacks, a bunch of chicks having a halfway good time and decent cinematography?

This comes as no surprise to me. In fact the biggest surprise is that it took this long for the media to accept the fact that across the spectrum of society, women at least casually, enjoy porn at about the same rate as do men. I've watched porn for years, both alone (yeh, guys women get off to it too!) and with sex partners. The thing that I really disagree with is the assertion that there is "Porn for women", a genre that expresses something completely other than what men would enjoy. The interests in porn are not confined to gender; if you are a fetishist, enjoy bukkake, SM/BD, on and on it makes no difference whether you are a man or a woman.

IMO - The ladies are the hidden market.
Imagine if your gf or wife was into porn as you were. Nice!

^ They probably are, just don't tell you about it. I personally was surprised when my wife was watching some really rough stuff, things even I wouldn't have watched.

Of course women watch porn, but it's risky to say women are simply "just like men" in terms of sexuality and what they watch. Lumping female sexuality in with men's has historically been a way of ignoring female sexuality. At the same time, to refer to something as "porn for women" implies we're a homogenous group of softcore fans. This is no more true than the assumption that men all like the same thing (usually presumed to be nasty stuff).
Either way, I think recognizing a female audience, as well as a diverse male audience, could bring about some positive changes in the industry (and perhaps people will stop telling me the same old "porn is for men, so deal with it" whenever I raise a question or point something out that's bothersome/interesting).

I know a few women who like porn, and almost without exception they're into the fetishy stuff.

I've freaked many a fella out while sharing the stuff I find hot, which includes a variety of things but always tends to be most noticeable when it comes to the really rough fare. They're either appalled and a bit turned off that I sometimes like seeing women treated that way, or are *too* turned on and assume I would also like to be gangraped/throat-fucked/face-slapped/etc.. (no thanks- just because I like to watch it doesn't mean I want to do it).

My girlfriend loves porn, and according to her some of her friends enjoy it too. It's just socially taboo for women to admit it in most cases. But yeah, women tend to gravitate towards either the more artistic or fetish side of the industry.

I saw this article a couple of days ago, too. Interesting read.
I really do think that women are much more open to porn than they used to be.
My wife and I watch it fairly often, and while she probably wouldn't watch it often w/o me around, she doesn't mind it, either. We actually have gone to conventions together and met the stars, etc. (Exxxotica NY last year -- and we will be going again this year)
My sister's generation (she's ~10 years younger than I am) is even more open to it yet. It's probably a result of the internet age (???).
But...yes...I think that as society is generally more accepting of porn and sexuality, so are women.
Interesting topic.

I love porn. I have a bigger porn collection then most of my guy friends. But thats because they are cheap to buy the DVDs, they think IM crazy for actually buying them( I refuse to steal the content, I respect the work they do). My BF now even gets bored sometimes from watching porn because I could watch it all day everyday. Some of my girl friends will watch porn, but they're not into it; they'll just tolerate it and then freak out that their boyfriend is looking at other girls. Even though these girls will say they like porn and watch it, they are still disgusted at the fact that its someone's profession. Others are disgusted by everything about it and wont even give it a chance.
I agree with the article but I think there is a big difference between women who actually LIKE it and the curious/tolerating ones.

I watch it without my BF all the time....LOL
At the conventions I get the feeling the stars think that the GFs/wives are just being dragged there.

^It was pretty obvious that my wife was having a good time at the convention, so I didn't get that impression for our specific case...but I can see how it might happen in other cases. (Especially if the women don't appear to be too excited about the whole thing)
What I did find striking was the difference in the way that I was treated with my wife there as opposed to the times that I have attended similar conventions by myself (long before we were married or even knew each other). The interaction was a much more "real" one, as opposed to the whole fantasy thing -- more chatting, more normal discussions, etc. Much cooler for me... (My wife also did most of the talking...which was cool, as well.)

^^ For sure. I know exactly what you mean. Couldnt blame them though, if I was in their position id feel MUCH more comfortable talking to the couple compared to the guy by himself with his tri pod.

Hell I love watching porn its my fave past time. I was in a relationship where I was made to feel dirty and ashamed for having such an interest in it. When we broke up I made sure I made up for it by watching hours and hours of it.

They were talking about this on "Bob & Tom" this morning and I thought they were making it up (i.e. the part about 50-odd percent of Hustler's videos being bought by women.) That really blows my mind - Hustler???
Anyway, my wife doesn't have a problem with me and porn. Sometimes when she's feeling frisky but not quite there yet she'll have me put one on.

I still get a feeling that only a small fraction of female population watch porn (although the numbers may have improved with internet available porn). Otherwise it would have been reflected in our society in many ways. Even in this forum there are far fewer female members than male, and female initiated postings are very rare. Out of the set of female porn viewers, most are women who prefer to watch porn with their partners i.e., couple porn, and I am not sure there is much of an economic contribution there.

This situation is definitely the opposite of what one would normally expect to find.
That guy must have been extraordinarily religious...or just plain uptight.

As anti-porn feminism seems to prevail mostly in Australia, the UK and to a slightly lesser extent, the US, I wonder just how significant old fashioned Anglo-Saxon prudery in modern form is a factor at the root? Anti-porn activists of whatever type tend to dismiss evidence that many women enjoy it as evidence of its all-corrupting nature.

"Anti-porn activists ... dismiss evidence that many women enjoy it as evidence of its all-corrupting nature"

Or 'if women want to things that we don't like, it's because men made them want to do it".
