Hi,
I am in the process of creating an artful but pornographic (no softcore) Magazine with artists from around the world. It will be semi annually and will have original lithos, or DVDs by mainstream directors or art pieces by local artists. How much would you guys theoretically pay for something like this. My Bookeeper has suggested a retail price of $60, but I am not sure if people would spend that money twice a year. I am not trying to sell over this forum, just get an idea how much pornfans would spend (if at all) on something like this.
Also, where do you get girls that look like real women rather than fake pornstars.

I think you will compete with the likes of Marquis, Ritual, Secret, Skin Two.
Marquis has about 4 releases/year at 15€ - IIRC.

On a second thought you will even compete with books with a price of 60$.

Amazon.com's list-price for Doris Kloster's "Illustrated Story of O" is 50$, now for sale for 31.50$, e.g.
Other photobooks are in the same range.
So you can probably add a paperback of Helmut Newton and even some Pirate Magazine - to get hardcore, if you have a budget of 60$ to spend.

I would consider giving such a magazine a try, probably when the rate exchange rate is 1€:2 US-$.
And even then - I must have some scottish blood, I'll think twice or thrice about actually purchasing it.

I understand that it's not a cheap product, but it will be marketed to not only a porn but also an art and fashion market. The fact that you will get signed and numbered artpieces should at least make up for it to a degree. I guess I have to explain that it won't really be a traditional mag but more of a journal/ book. Think Visionaire (www.visionaireworld.com) with pornographic material.

The fashion market? Wasn't it Gucci or Luis Vuitton who does not want to appear in conjunction with (SM)-erotica.

:google/babelfish help:
Louis Vuitton: Connection to SM damages marque-image ... David Mason had a Vuitton Bondage mask and a genital ring from a antiquen of Louis Vuitton handbag in the offer of his shop. They agreed on the fact that these articles are to be taken from the assortment. As the speakers said of Vuitton, were the SM products of inferior falsified material, onto which the Logo of the noble designer was placed. That this does not make on too happy, might be clear everyone. The fact that the marque-logo appeared on goods, which have to do with Bondage and SM would have however also done harm to the image of the company, so the lawyers of Vuitton. That some motives of the tradition house in advertisements in high polish woman magazines however have also quite a "dark-erotic" appearance, as our example picture from the campaign with Jennifer Lopez shows, seems to have been forgotten.

What will they say about hardcore pornography?
SCNR

Traditional magazines with quality photographs also had trouble to survive as the downfalls of "O-Magazine", "Le Fer Rouge" and "Twilight" show.
OTOH, I know nothing about art-magazines, and original art-pieces may save you.

Set aside what I said in my other postings, I would really appreciate such a product or rather more movies with such a spirit, since it often appears that one has the choice between the proverbial pink-glo fishnet or extrem rubberwear.
Where is the title "Orgy at the Vienna State Opera Ball", "Female CEOs in Heat", "Toga Orgy" or "Story of O - Hardcore"? (Yeah, I know Italian, French and Spanish studios actually do it to a certain extent).
OTOH, probably a fake-BTS from the "Vienna Life Ball" would fulfill the fantasies of many.

And if somebody could tell producers that Goth does not mean girls with bad tattoos, too much metal and clownish make-up, I'd be really happy.

And there isn't only LV, Mugler and Gaultier once had Latex couture, and maybe they are more open to it.
(:cynical:I mean since they "gay-attitude" seems to shock not many people anymore, those "artists" have to find another thing so they can show the usual people how parochial and retro they are, and how advanced the boheme is.:/cynical:)
And maybe Gianfranco Ferre isn't also too shocked either. 1,2

The couture-gowns were actually manufactured by DeMask (many here may know them from some Private productions like "Fetish Garden") AFAIR, and you could get the same gown for much less buying it with the DeMask label, than with the fashion label.

P.S.: The upcoming Playboy Germany features the O-Robe.
This manufacturer seems to be not too shabby either.

I'd be willing to shell out 45 $, if this doesn't fall into the easy fetish-art trap. I don't care for latex. With modern-day, fresh photography reminiscent of Terry Richardson, David LaChapelle, Bettina Rheims or Ellen Von Unwerth, you can count me in as a buyer.

We actually are in talks with some of the photographers you mentioned, but also others, who haven't had their break yet. The idea is to give these people the chance to do what they want for a certain subject without any restrictions. There will be no advertisers, that's why it will be more expensive. But it also gives us the chance to publish whatever we want...

I like the O-Kleid a lot, guess I know what my wife will have under the x-mas tree...

To me it would depend on the overall quality of the product, and how many pages your looking at making it. I have collected adult mags of high quality and a bit of rarety for years, and if its a product of high quality, and kind of rare in it's nature, I would definately pay 60-75$ for it twice a year. Something like that is more of a collectors piece that I would enjoy a great deal in my collection. Good luck with it if it goes forward and be sure to provide more info down the road.

I will definately keep you updated. It will be highly collectible, since it will have original art and also will be limited and numbered.

Terry's stuff is interesting but I'm in love with Roy Stuart's work. I have all his books and recently bought his most recent book The Fourth Body. I'm happy to pay for beautiful work. His DVD included in the Fourth Body book is hotter than most if not all the porn I've seen recently. Well worth the money. I'm ordering some more of his films. Clever, sexy stuff
Taschen. Good luck with your project, I'd like to believe there is a market for arty erotic photography. The Black and White Masters editions sell out here very fast. Their Special Edition, titled SEX sold well too.

You should also look at Tony Ward's stuff, he's always been a favorite of mine. I liked the fourth body a lot, but thought the DVD sucked. It reminded me what Newton said about photographers that make films, it'll all be way to long bad boring self indulgent crap. I love Stuarts Photos, and during the dvd all I could think was how much better everything he's filming would look as a photo. Also check out the "blissful & kinky" stuff by Norbert Guthier.

Hi Joey, my local bookstore ordered it in for me but I noticed you can buy it from Minotaur onlineat a great price. The book is hardcover (weighs lots if you're thinking of having it posted) and totally gorgeous. The DVD is like a sampler, more explicit DVD's from the Glimpse series are available direct from Roy Stuart, you need to write to him via his site. I believe he has an Italian distributor too but don't know who it is. The "wet" scenes in his stuff will mean they'll never be classified here so I'm ordering direct. I suppose what I like about the DVD is that I like to see the process by which the photos are created and I just find the material very sexy and engaging in a curious kind of way. Porn is often background when it's watched in our household, it's perfect for that. It also has quirky humour and tenderness about it that turns me on.Those gorgeous girls with their lush, furry pussies having a great time the with big double Hitachi Wand vibrators are just wonderful.

Zatyr Maria Beatty's films come very highly recommended by a number of my trusted gal reviewers. Spanking is a fetish not allowed by the people of The Office of Film and Literature Classification in Oz so again this would have to be ordered via a overseas company.blowfish

Well, I give you the fact that the behind the scenes stuff is interesting, but generally I enjoy photos by a photographer more than their attempt to make movies. It is A great book however, and I think one of my favourite images is the one on the back cover. Definately a myst buy. Also check out the Kula book by taschen, I really found it fascinating.
