WOW! That article was kind of disheartening. It felt a lot like those watered down porn specials that HBO runs, and really seemed more about showing of how much Susie Bright knows, oh, and by the way, she has two new books coming out. She ignores a lot of history and a lot of current content to make her point too...

Interesting seeing Roger Corman included with those hardcore guys - He was an independent studio-owning maverick, to be sure, but of the many brilliant things he did, I'm not sure expanding sexuality on the big screen was one of them - As a distributor, he generally favored releasing MPAA approved, R-rated cuts of his movies over "roadshowing" unrated versions. As he's quick to point out in his own autobiography, "I've made films in every conceivable genre - except pornography."

LOL, he's one of my favorite filmmakers - sort of the Stanley Kramer of B-movies, based on how he always tried to put his values in his work. But growing up I always found Crown International's movies more erotic (even if they were deficient in just about every other conceivable way).
I've always wished Crown boss Marilyn J. Tenser had gotten more attention; it's interesting to note that one of America's most prolific producers of non-X skin flicks was female at a time when it was difficult for women to become producers of ANY kind in U.S. cinema.
