DUMB ASS QUOTE OF THE WEEK

An article published on AVN.com recounts the problem English performer Ashley Long recently encountered attempting to enter the U.S.

According to AVN’s source, Ms. Long’s manager, Mark Spiegler, says that Long was denied entrance into the U.S. because U.S. government officials had some sort of evidence that Long had failed to pay taxes on an interest earning bank account. Long was sent back to the United Kingdom and told she could not re-enter the U.S. for one year.

Okay, this ain’t the first time a girl in this biz has had problems entering the country. A few years ago, for instance, blonde Aussie beauty Bobby Barron was denied entrance into this country after she spent some time working in Mexico and was subsequently sent back to her native Australia. According to my source, Barron had items in her possession (magazines) that linked her to illegally working in the U.S., and so, she was denied entrance when returning from a booking in Mexico.

So here’s the quote that, in my humble opinion, qualifies as a dumb ass quote in the Ashley Long story: According to AVN, “Spiegler said that while he could probably sneak her back in the country, he doesn’t think he will try.”

And just so ya know, those quotes are around that statement cuz I’m quoting AVN. AVN didn’t put quotes around what they said Spiegler said.

Now I don’t know if that was a casual remark-- an aside--made by Mark Spiegler or it was an official quote. But either way, if I was a guy who made a big chunk of my living representing European talent in the porn biz, I sure as hell wouldn’t be publicizing to the world that I could “sneak” (make that smuggle) talent into the country… illegally!

In our post-9/11, homeland-security-driven nation, conspiring to bring people into this country illegally is a more serious issue than ever.

Personally, and because I’ve known Mark Spiegler for many years, I’m guessing he made a casual, nonchalant, off-the-cuff remark.

Perhaps AVN and its reporters—since AVN is a trade magazine and not an unbiased news reporting agency--should consider the possible ramifications of comments they officially attribute to members of our industry, i.e., with or without quotes around those statements, and especially when those statements amount to, or might be construed as, a criminal action or intent to commit a criminal action.

And while I'm commenting on what I consider to be poor judgement on AVN's part, let me say that Ms. Long was not "Deported to England" as AVN's article reports. She was denied entrance to the U.S. And there are significant legal and perceived differences between these two actions.

Perhaps I'm being trivial, but if AVN is the "official voice" of the adult entertaiment industry they ought to get their shit straight; especially when it reflects poorly on the rest of us in the adult biz and the perceptions of us by AVN's non-industry.

As for for amnesty for illegal immigrants I think there should be some sore of program to include them into the system with incentives and penalties to have the privilege. Bush in last night debate said he's not for an amnesty, but being the liar he is that's just what he might so just before the election.

BTW! I would be willing to marry Ashley to give her a status in the U.S.
