No kidding...good for her! Good to see former adult starlets being successful post porn. I used to love Ashlyn Gere...first few porns I've seen had her in it. HOT.
GGG Models archive at Pornstarchive - Work in progress!
I think the bottom line is that Ashlyn Gere done well as a career after the porn industry. When some girls leave the porn industry they are cursed by the stigma.
I'm not at all comfortable with those links being posted. Nothing in the links themselves connects her to porn, so it is very possible that people who hire her don't know about her former career. Displaying it like this could cause her to lose work. Please take those links down. [edit: fuck it, I took them down myself.] Edited by - killbillvol69 on 8/26/2011 4:34:35 AM
Hear hear Killbillvol69 and Thanks. That is the reason why I placed my post. A prime example is Alexis Silver. A British porn star from Leeds in Yorkshire. She retired from porn and returned to Britian but as soon as someone posted on another site where she was working after the porn industry she lost her job. Possibly as a result of her previous porn career. Apparently this happened three times. That is why I said there was a stigma.
I had actually heard about Ashlyn's move to real estate many years ago, right after she did a cameo in an Xfiles episode (she still looked pretty hot there, even de-sluttified for mainstream work). Not surprised she's moved into other businesses, particularly franchise-oriented businesses. I won't say who it is but I know of at least one former porn star who now co-owns a popular fast food franchise here in the suburbs of Chicago. Actually, I think it was her husband that bought the franchise first, but she now shows up in business circles as running the day-to-day activities of the business. She's not even shy about her past, having spoken about her experiences in porn before she was 'born again' and 'saved.' I think its great when porn performers retire and do well for themselves. It justifies porn as a legitimate business model. If they all ended up strung out on drugs and destitute, I'd not feel so comfortable about being a porn consumer.

I remember my very first Ashlyn Gere video. She was getting in doggy, spins around, and sweetly commands the guy to "cum on my face!" I loved the title of the second on, Put it in Gere.
in the early 90's she was the best. her scenes hold up well today. the girl was both very sexual and stupid hot sexy. and i still review her her work on occasion, too. she continues to get me off.
^No she wasn't. Traci Lord started working in mainstream in 1987 and had slightly bigger mainstream career than Ashlyn.

Technically it was Marilyn Chambers in Rabid, 1977. Traci Lords started doing straight to video in 1987, was in Wiseguy, Roseanne, Melrose Place and Films Blade & Cry Baby. Ashlyn Gere was in XFiles in 94, Space: Above and Beyond 95, 96; Silk Stalkings in 97. If you haven't seen it, I strongly suggest her anal scene with Tom Byron in "Two Women". Epic.
^Thanks I forgot about Marilyn in Rabid. What a weird but amazing movie. Not as weird as Cronenberg's previous film Shivers or as weird as some of his other great works of art but still quite weird. It could be argue that since she only did one in between doing porn than it's barely a slowdown crossing a speed bump but I look at it differently because for the fact that she was already doing porn when she accepted her role in Rabid and decided to stick with porn afterwards. I'm sure she could have carved herself some kind of mainstream career if she had really wanted to.

^ I'd have to agree. If I recall right she stayed in porn because she felt there was more freedom in it. Rabid is underrated IMO, She was good in it. As an FYI they are issuing it on bluray, they just did a remaster. More Ms Gere:
^Imagine a box sets of his movies from the 70's and 80's. His movies are weird but they always have a message that you don't necessarily get while watching them and they often touch on subjects that many other filmmakers wouldn't touch with a ten foot pole. P.S: Nice pic of Ashlyn. I know it's not PC to say this in the era of teen porn performers but there is something to be said for a late 20 early 30 years old woman doing porn that most of their younger peers simply can't match.

I don't care if it's PC or not, teeny bopper porn gets boring, fast. I think i can name less than 10 stars since 2000 that I would have in the same category as the top golden of era. Ashlyn, Marilyn, Lysa, Kristara never bored me. That and it was the fur era. Fortunately, fur seems to be experiencing a renaissance.
Let me first play devils advocate. One of the reasons why you, me and many others get tired with teeny boppers porn is because that's the only thing we are fed day after day. I love fast food but I would get sick of it if that was all I had to eat each day. Now that I have done that then let me say what I really think. For me the performers from the 70's and 80's beat out almost every modern performer. Here is just a tiny portion of my list: Seka, Jessie St-James, Dorothy Lemay, Serena, Juliet Anderson, Annette Haven, Arcadia lake, Cris Cassidy, Lysa Thatcher, Merle Michaels, Kandi Barbour and her amazing nipples, Veronica Hart and I could keep going.
^^ I'd also add two other aspects - the dominance of gonzo and, perhaps related, the complete absence of actual erotic performance. Just as a test, compare an 80s classic with Kay Parker or Honey Wilder with a more recent MILF themed flick (not teenybopper I know but bear with me). The older films set up an erotic scenario with care and, importantly, decent performances that help that along. These days? You get a 3 minute intro where the actress awkwardly explains the male talent is not a biological relative, gets stuck in a compromising position and, hey ho, they fuck. Replace the MILF performer with a 19/20 year old that really can't act and what do you get? Zero build up, no eroticism and something that's more suited to the nature channel than the bedroom. Who the heck will remember that? Add to that a revolving door of talent with cookie-cutter scenes (I mean, seriously, everyone is gushing about Lansky's sites but, although they are a welcome change from much else that's out there, can anyone remember the last time the story wasn't a naive young girl with an older man and the sex didn't involve a kneeling no hands face fuck and then a knees to elbows missionary scene?) and few stand out performers (just look at how one recent short term performer who was slightly better than the rest has a 40 plus page thread as evidence of this) and you have an utterly unmemorable product. Why can we remember Ashlyn et al and not this week's latest teen "star"? Because there's nothing memorable about the latter. As for the former? That's why they're called golden age superstars.
^You had some gonzo porn in the 70's and 80's (they called them stag films) but it was low quality stuff and is only worth remembering because many a performer first started doing porn in those type of films. There was a very different mind set in the early days. I think the people making movies were actual film directors who had gone to school to learn their art. One of the reasons why I don't think it would be possible to shoot amazing movies with plot, dialogue and great sex scenes is that the talent behind the camera and in front of it is no longer up to the task. I don't want to paint every one in the industry with the same brush because I know plenty of performers who could be given a script and they would do an excellent job playing a role role and I also know that you still have the odd director that could shoot a decent movie but neither will get to do that because the cost would be too high. The only good news at the moment is that we seem to be moving more toward artcore type porn and although it's still basically gonzo. There is an effort in making it appear more articstic.

^ I don't know that I'd call the Roughies gonzo. They were harder edged sure, but that was about themes and content within the script not really the sex. That may be totally wrong, but that's my take.
