As with professional sportsmen the careers of male porn performers have become extended in recent years - probably for the same reason that you can make a comfortable living from what was once an amateur occupation into your late thirties/early forties. That may not be the case going forward for porn performers as money in the industry dries up. We may go back to seeing a lot of guys appearing in porn as one-off performers or only with their girlfriends in the years to come with a handful of regulars sticking it out but diversifying into directing or producing roles. At the moment, though, I would say 21 to 45 is the range for straight out gonzo sex, with older and younger performers just filling out certain niche categories where their age is a necessary part of the story. Of course, where they own their own website/DVD series, like Peter North, Ron Jeremy and Tom Byron, they will be fucking 18 year olds on film well into their 70s.
James Deen started at 18 I think, but it took a couple of year for him to hit it big. Dane Cross started around 24, but didn't hit it until probably 26 or 27 I think. Edited by - rod on 12/27/2011 10:04:47 PM
I'm going to go with 25-42. I've seen the Hedgehog's work in his 50s and it's not pretty. watching him trying to shove his flaccid dick into a superhottie like tessa taylor is sad and unnecessary.

I don't think there is a prime for men. They have to be able to keep an erection, shoot when directed, and keep in reasonable shape without a belly. Some of the older guys still around in porn are way out of shape. The word "prime" is best used when you have to compete against someone such as in sport. There really is no opponent or competition when you are having sex. If you stay in shape you can have sex until you become sick. I know Ed Powers said he stopped doing porn when he put on too much weight and that it just was no longer fun for him. All power to him, not long ago he lost a load of weight and later returned. Not sure whether he is active now or not.
Perhaps the use of Viagra can make a man in his 50s just as good as a man in his 30s, as long as he is fit and healthy. Unlike in sports, where performance enhancing drugs are prohibited, there are no such prohibitions in porn. If a 50-year-old guy takes some Viagra so that he can blast the ass of a sexy lass for all he is worth, then no one is going to object to this. The better the horny guy performs with his lady, the hotter is his scene with her. And it doesn't really matter to me how he has managed to achieve his superior performance with his dick between the sexy lady's ass-cheeks.

It's depending on what they're doing with their lives
I think there is a place for almost all adult ages in porn. Dave Cummings performed well into his 70's. Evan Stone is pushing 50, so is Randy Spears. Mark Davis is in his 40's and still performing in BDSM porn as a dominant. With makeup, implanted teeth, tooth replacing partials (no one wants to see a toothless hobo in porn), Trimix, Caverject, Viagra and Cialis (all medications to help produce erections) I don't see where age alone should be a determining factor for men performing in porn nowadays.
