Since Fivestar no longer have what I considered to be the cheapest shipping method to Australia. I am wondering what companies some of the Australians here are using and what their shipping prices are?

Besides Adult DVD Warehouse in Australia are there any other domestic businesses that offer good selection and prices?

Have you tried Lasersedge and their $1.99 shipping?

And what about erodvd.nl and their free shipping?

Don't know of any decent Australian based stores, they are all overpriced. Another thing with local stores is that they sometimes supply crappy local versions of US DVDs. PAL copies of Private & Vivid DVDs have all their special features stripped away.

I only use Laser's Edge now, the $1.99 shipping is awesome and takes no longer than 2 weeks to arrive.

It all depends what you consider to be decent prices and range. Axis (http://www.axisshop.com/) have been around as a mail-order place forever. They used to be in the ACT, and then years ago moved to the NT, not sure where they are now. These days they're owned by adultshop.com (www.adultshop.com.au).

They have a very limited range, and you'll find that both websites have slightly different stock. You can combine items from both shops, but only by phoning your order through. Be sure and call the Axis line, and place it as an "Axis order" so you're entitled to the bulk discount.

Good things are they're quite cheap on EA titles, and amazingly so with the bulk discount thing happening. Bad points are as focusyn mentioned (and a point of many of my bitter complaints in the past here) that the discs they sell are local versions, so the EA titles have all the extra materials stipped out of them, and the Private Titles also have all the extras stripped out of them. I'm about to place an order for a few things to give them a test run. Of course, after I order they'll have nothing left I want for ages.. IMO they'd be someone to order from very occasionally at best.

As Joey and focusyn suggested, Lasersedge (www.lasersedge.com) have that great shipping deal. If only they'd join the Kickback program! Especially since it costs them nothing and only helps sales, and Drew can assist with code examples to bolt onto their website. Regardless, Marc gives great customer service, and easily one of the best places to get your original US-produced smut.

Joey also mentioned Erodvd (www.erodvd.nl and www.erovideo.nl). With their free shipping I've usually had my orders arrive within 10 days or so. Despite their customs-friendly shipping methods, I've been having almost all of my recent orders inspected by Australian Customs. Since I've been buying stacks of Privates, and nothing with fisting/scat/urine/bondage/barnyard pets etc I've had no hassles whatsoever.

Since I'm a fan of Privates, their low prices + free shipping have meant I've been ordering 1-4 titles from them 1-2 times a month for the last.. year or more. They also stock some RLD, Hustler, Ana/Diabolic, as well as various Evil Angel titles, though many are released under licence in europe, and I'm not sure what they're like in terms of extras/etc

It all depends on what you're ordering of course, but if you find Fivestar's shipping to be a bit much for you atm, (I would have loved to buy a stack of stuff with that flat rate fedex!), then your best bets are Lasers Edge with $1.99 flat rate shipping, and Erodvd, with free shipping. The what-from-where all depends on what you want to order.

cheers,

scipio

Would Australian Customs seize watersports and fisting titles?

Years ago I was in Sydney on holiday and the Kings Cross sex shops had many pissing/watersports and fisting videos.

Have the regulations changed in Australia since then?

A recent example of how bad the Private DVDs are here. I bought the PAL version of the 2 disc Collector's Edition of "Perfect" from a local online store. The price was average, but it was autographed by Jodie Moore so I thought why not. Movie arrives, it lists all the extras as the US one. Put in disc 1, movie, fine. Put in the other disc, it's the movie plus a bonus scene w/ Jodie Moore... that's it. Basically the same disc only with different menus and labelled as the extras disc. Crappy.

Joey,

You can sometimes find those titles in porn shops, however, importing them yourself could be risky with regard to customs, as the customs officers have a degree of discretion they can use. Bear in mind as well, that the stock the porn shops have in the states is legally only allowed to be R-rated, and ALL of the x-rated titles they have on the shelves are technically illegal to sell at retail, except the state governments and police forces generally turn a blind eye as long as it's all kept reasonably "clean".

focusyn,

Yep I agree. I did buy a couple of Privates a year or two ago, before knowing the ones in the card covers were local stripped versions. I did end up keeping 3 of the 4 titles I bought - a comp which would not have had any extras anyway, a Reality title, which again only loses the extra previews, and Riviera 2, which shares the same extras as Riviera 1 and 3. The other one was the Virtualia with Sophie Evans, which I traded back in for an EA title, and replaced it with a real one.

Since then I've not bought a single Private title locally. The worst offenders locally are the Private Life of series, where the second disc is completely absent, and the annual Private "Best ofs" (ie 24 Karat, Odyssey, Millennium, Sex Non-Stop, etc) which are sold as two seperate DVDs, the same as athe video releases instead of compiled onto the one DVD, as they are everywhere else in the world.

Sadly these are the Private titles you'll find at Axis, adultshop.com.au, adultdvdwarehouse (and all their affiliates) and pretty much anywhere here in Australia.

So choosing between paying au$55-65 for one of those, or au$40ish for one from erodvd.. well it's not a difficult choice for me..

cheers,

scipio

Hi folks

Can anyone advise what are the limitations on movies you can ship into Australia. I know Customs have confiscated vids and fined people, but I don't know any reference for exactly what categories they object to.

can you help?

Hi licker, and welcome to the forums,

I don't know if there is any "official" list for Australia, or where you'd find it, but I know:

pedo
best
scat

are all illegal.

I'm also aware that one of the NuTech anime porn dvds has been seized by Aust Customs at one stage, though I don't recall which one, but I assume it had some form of demon-rape scene as these things tend to have.

Other than that, things that may be dodgy (but by the same token you might find in a porn shop) include:

fisting
violent sex (mason's dirty trixx/rough sex)
sex w/bondage
anything else considered dodgy or taboo by US standards

This is because customs folk have to use their own judgement, and opinions on what's good or bad may vary from customs guy to customs guy.

I've never had any problems with Private dvds, or mainstream US stuff.

hope this is of some help to you,

cheers,

scipio

Hi Scipio, thanks for the reply and the welcome.

My interest is for watersport vids, which I know are sometimes sold by Australian mail order firms, but it sounds like it might be a bit of a lottery to get them thru customs.

Licker, I have purchased a few watersports type DVDs from EROdvd without incident.

They ship in plain 'letter' envelopes, therefore customs have no idea what the contents are. You would have to be very unlucky for them to be opened.

I own an Adult Centre in Melbourne and we stock a good supply of Private videos and DVD's. I am in the process of setting up our website and working out costs but if anyone is after any vids or dvd's and they cannot find them I am happy to give it a try as I probably have access to more resources than most.I am happy to charge only what Aust Post charges me to get it to you.
I read the post about the different types of copies for dvd's, the problem with those dodgy discs is that when they produced them they have only recorded using ONE layer of the dvd. This costs them alot less but halves the storage area of the disc , this means they cannot fit all the extra data that is needed for the special features.
Ok if anyone is interested let me know and we can talk about what you are after.

Hi Aussie69 and welcome to the forums.

It would certainly be good to have an active and interested Australian mail-order place involved in these forums. Especially one that's competitively priced with the international shops here.

Whereabouts in Melbourne are you located? I'm also a Melbourne Boy .

My personal bias in the posts above would be that if you're able to stock the "real" Private and EA titles instead of or at least alongside the locally made ones it would be worth your while over time, as people will tend to shop where they know they're getting a full product if they're aware of the difference.

There's quite a few EA titles I'm chasing at the moment, but I'd rather phone in a query or ask in person than post a list on the forums here like some kind of pervert

cheers,

Thanx for the welcome scorpio

//Whereabouts in Melbourne are you located? I'm also a Melbourne Boy .

The shop is in St.Kilda

//My personal bias in the posts above would be that if you're able to stock the "real" Private and EA titles instead of or at least alongside the locally made ones.

I stock both the "real" and locally made titles from both those companies and others wherever possible.

No problem, you can email me and I'll see what I can do to get them for you.

No worries Grant, though it's "scipio" from the Roman family name rather than "scorpio" from that James-Bond-esque Simpsons episode.

A note that might be useful for you with regard to the locally-produced vs Importned Private discs, I have had a retailer tell me that he preferred to stock the local ones because customers with X-Boxes and PS2s can't play the imported ones. This is because the imports have parental lock enabled and so do their consoles. They just need to RTFM (Read The Fucking Manual) and turn the locks off on their consoles and away they go.

Not that this will neccecarily be something that will come up for you, but if you do have customers complaining about the Imported Privates not working on their consoles there's both why and how they can fix it for you.

I'll get onto you soon,

cheers,

scipio

On the local Private DVDs. I wouldn't mind buying the local versions if the overseas versions also have no extras, but I hate those damned cardboard covers we get here. Wow, can't believe people are that dumb about disabling the parental locks on cosoles.

Yeap the cardboard covers simply aren't durable/replaceable like the plastic ones are. Missing out on all the extra bits makes it that much worse.

If you hate card covers, and you're likely to buy stuff put out by Tom Byron, you might want to send some feedback his way, as well. The new EE covers are also card. Very pretty, but not very durable long-term.

Ahh.. sounds good to me. Sounds like you have the original fully-functional Private discs in that case.

The locally produced Private DVDs (with extras removed) are in what's basically the same kind of Heavy Card case/cover as their Videos have in Aus, only DVD-sized.

I used to buy most of my stuff through kaosdvd.com which worked out really well, as they had a 'buy six get three free' deal. That meant my DVD's averaged in, including postage, at around the 26 dollar mark, not bad considering the range. Whenever I had a problem with discs scratched from manufacturing or in transit, I had them replaced without incident.

However, the deal is now gone, and while they have some decent specials - currently all the Orgy World lines and No Cum Dodging Allowed 1 & 2 are all 15 bucks Australia - they just aren't the option they used to be. They need to bring that special back, because there isn't a whole lot of incentive to order from them anymore.

So that leaves overseas options like Adultdvdnow.com, which I have used twice and an incident with a faulty disc pissed me off with them...but I may go with them again because of my paranoia with Aussie customs. Check this out Aussie folks, from the latest Eros journal issue, as reported by refused-classification.com:
---------------------
This issue also contains an interesting letter from a reader in Adelaide who had his home raided after trying to import two films by art-house erotica director Andrew Blake. Customs ended up walking away with 60 of his DVD's! He is obviously at a loss as to how he should deal with this issue and so wrote to The Eros Journal for advice. Here is their reply.

You are not alone here. Many Australians are now experiencing dawn raids on their homes by Customs because they bought what they thought was an ordinary, non-violent erotic DVD from overseas. The problem here is that the DVD or video that is called X or XXX in another country is now a Refused Classification film in Australia, due to the unnecessary tightening of the guidelines for X material here by the Howard government. All it takes is a few seconds of really bad language ('assualtative language' in the jargon) or someone to throw a drink on someone or slap them on the face (or the arse sometimes) and the film will not pass the X classification. It basically knocks out any form of dramatic plot developments, so if you see an intelligent X rated video that looks like it might have a good story line or drama in it, don't try and import it.

Sorry, not much we can do here. You should engage a good customs lawyer and have him or her highlight the stupidity of the Customs Regulations which are at odds with the Classification Act.
-----------------------

Well, this makes me a little nervous - I'm in NSW, and have not heard of any home raids in this State. In fact, generally suspect tapes/discs are confiscated and a warning letter issued...but hey, the strategy of Customs appears to be changing. I mean, as far as I can see, Andrew Blake films have never been a problem with the OFLC in this country, which means some Customs officer has decided from looking at the case or the footage in the film itself that it breached the guidelines for importation, organised a search warrant...etc.

In Western Australia, these sorts of raids are a dime a dozen, but X-rated films are technically illegal to possess there. Not so South Australia, so Customs are enforcing Federal Law quite forcefully. Scary.

I'm very very cautious about buying any porn at all from overseas. You would think the way adultdvdnow does it is pretty safe, and so too adultdvdtoday from all reports. I'm surprised scipio's shipments have got through hunky dory, as quite a few Private films are under scrutiny thanks to RC classifications. I also think the cover to something like Weapons of Ass Destruction 3 would bother them - Tegan Presley with a ball-gag. They're not fond of ball-gags, hence Private's THE ACADEMY being Refused Classification until they removed footage of Lex Steele with a ball-gag in his mouth.

Even with the supposed discreet packaging of adultdvdtoday.com, it's a little disturbing Customs is still opening each package. If they can take issue with Andrew Blake movies, what about a Jules Jordan? Or a Susie Medusa Gottardi title?

Just to update you on recent purchases from outside Autralia.

Orgazmik and specialist watersports retailers ship in plain white enveloppes (no boxes) anyway.

Erodvd.nl also ship in plain enveloppes if you ask them (sometimes they do it even if you don't ask on watersports and fisting titles , but I had a couple of watersports titles shipped in boxes recently).

Fivestar has a similar enveloppe option, and although never tried with them Lasersedge reportedly can ship in enveloppes without boxes if you ask them.

Also you can buy from guys in the international trading forum on ADT and ask them for similar discreet packaging.

All in all in 10 month I got about 40 porn DVDs from abroad without any problem, I live in New South Wales though...

As Joey states, erodvd.nl often shops in flat envelopes (almost always in my experiences).

Laser's Edge will also do this on request and can even put a note in your customer notes if you wish this to be your default.

Adult DVD Today also ship in a nondescript flat envelope.

I haven't ordered anything from overseas in about 6 weeks, although I have in the past had occasional erodvd orders held up by customs, nothing ever was seized and my erodvd orders have been about 95% Private discs.

What's funny is that here in Melbourne you can walk right into any Adult bookstore and find all manner of porn dvds sold openly, from WOAD to GGG, to all manner of other stuff.

I'm planning on making a new order next week. I'll let you all know what happens with it.

cheers,

scipio

I read the Eros Journal's letter re the Custom's raid when my copy arrived last month and had to pick my jaw up off the floor. A raid! I'm still shaking my head at that.
I still get confused here. Is anyone else? Anything labelled X or XXX overseas is now a Refused classification in Aust. It's not illegal to own film rated X by the OFLC. What about owning film that is unclassified by the OFLC? Which seems to be the case in the Eros letter.

Ultrasiet if you can't sleep one night you might be interested in the Parliamentary Briefing Paper prepared for the NSW Govt. last year on X Rated Films and the Regulation Of Sexually Explicit Material, it gives an interesting insight into the convoluted process that have brought the law to where it stands to date.

Yeah,
haven't been to an adult shop for a while as I've been getting alot of stuff from overseas (never any probs with customs so far [which surprises me sometimes as I wonder if I'm on ASIOs 'database' because of some adventures I've had overseas, but that's another story ...), but I did visit my local Melbourne shop recently when the exchange rate sucked and noticed some GGG titles on the shelves for the 1st time. I wondered if they ordered them in directly or they were exchanges?

Hi,

just wondering which shops in Melbourne were selling GGG titles ( mentioned in an earlier post )? I'm in Sydney and have only seen the one DVD on the shelf here , which was most likely a trade-in. The few online Australian stores which stock GGG have a very limited range of titles.

thanks

I believe I've seen them at some of the Club X stores, and also some independant smut shops in the CBD. I don't think any of them do mail order though..
