Is there a good (free) tool out there to reduce images in size and memory to fit ADT's requirements?
I have some images that are just a bit bigger in dimensions and size. Dimensions are easy enough to take care of - just use MS Paint to make it smaller. But what about memory space?
Or does ADT reduce it for you? That is how I read the warning at the beginning of file attachment for avatars.

As I understand it, Drew's code will reduce the file size, but you might not be happy with the result.

I use IrfanView to crop, size and get my avatars inside the 5kb limit. IrfanView is free, though he does ask that you make a donation, which, given how useful I've found it to be, I was happy to do.

The ADT software will reduce the size for you. If it's a large pictue, there may be some lossy effect so it would help if it's close to the requirements when you start.

i'll second hardware's irfanview suggestion, i've found resampling it down to around 100/100 usually means you don't lose much and adt doesn't need to touch it themselves. i'd also check out the GIMP-either program serves to remind you of how hideously expensive and useless photoshop is for anyone who doesn't use it for a living.

Thx for the Irfanview recommendation ! 10 hex 100 pixels wasn't a problem, but I could never go below 5 ko with Photoshop and get something even halfway decent, Irfanview did it without a problem...

FYI, in case you haven't figured this out yet, removing the non-image specific data from the JPEG can go a long way toward reducing the file size.
