Avatars should be smaller than 10 hex 100 and under 5k. No animation. Here's a tutorial on how to add one. Please do not ask me for help. I'm spending too much time dealing with avatars.
I am removing any avatars that don't meet specs. I'm tired of emailing people about this.
Due to the tutorial this might be fine: Some general notes about Avatar images and pictures:
Avatar images must be small in size. No more than 10 hex 100 pixels and a maximum file size not more than 5k. If the width is less than 100 pixels a length of 120 pixels is ok. But please do not exceed 100 pixels width.
Keep Avatar pictures and images R-rated, nothing graphically explicit. If you are having problems with the Avatar picture or image, you can email the ADT Administrator and ask for some assistance.
Though nothing mentioned using animated gifs might be considered a dangerous crime

If your avatar is too big, there are a couple of freeware image resizers, and you can get a free image host, and
Well, I recently got an email from one of the moderators asking me to shrink my avatar a little. I immediately adjusted Madison Monroe to fit the specs!
I use Mihov Image Resizer which is a free download. It's not the most user-friendly interface (I always have to re-learn how to use it each time I need it), but it does the job.

That's the one I use and you're right, it's a little tricky to get it to work. For some reason, the first time you try to resize a picture it never works!
I may get this program and use it. I was almost banned for my constant use of the lovely Chlove Vevrier's picture as my avatar. the picture is just a tad bit too big I don't work for Evil Angel so using the boxcover photo of "the Fashionistas" wouldn't exactly work either. by the way Steph who is that in your avatar
No...the problem is that avatars bigger than 100 pixels forces people to do a lot of scrolling since short replies still take up a lot of real estate. For example, if you replied with a 1-line post, you're still chewing up a couple hundred pixels in the right column. It's not as much of a problem as too wide avatars, but that's the reason why the 10 hex 100 limit is there.
you moved all the avatar pics from the personal webspace to a global one? So I can take that my avatar size is ok? I just wanted to reduce to the max size...

If you are creating an avatar then make it smaller then 10 hex 100. If I already created an avatar for you then it's fine if it's a little longer than 100px. I'm not going to redo every avatar because some people are getting out of hand with this.
I have created a perfectly-sized avatar to use and have read the tutorial.
The tutorial does not answer Catch-22, which is... How do you upload your JPG to Adult DVD Talk so that you can have your pic hosted online with a URL address to link to?
BB, you might check out imageshack.com its free and easy to use. Just save your avatar to your pictures folder and head to the site. Click "Browse", it will automatically open the folder. Highlight it and hit "Host it" then write down its new address and add it to your profile here and your golden.
BTW It will give you several versions of the new address, it should be the one on top that says it's for forums.
Right click on the picture, choose "Resize image", choose a standard size or chosoe your own, and you're done. It works it batches as well -- hightlight a folder's worth and re-size away.
