I know a lot of people are obsessive about how a girl shouldn't be still in the starlet category if she's been in the business for a day over 12 months.
Of the 8 that you've pointed out had been in the business for more than 12 months, 5 of them had only been in the business for 1, 2 or 3 months at the time of nominations for last year's AVN awards. They wouldn't have had so much as a snowball's chance in hell at winning, let alone get nominated last year.
Nautica Thorn was just hitting her stride at this time last year.
And Jennifer Luv, well... even I didn't really notice her until less than a year ago.
IMHO, I would think a girl would probably prefer to be nominated too late in the Starlet category than too early in the Perfomer of the year category.

Debut date is the date I first see the gal in action. Teagan's debut is Cum Drippers #06 03/20/2004. The movies listed production date is 02/05/2004 Audrey's debut is Up Your Ass #21 02/02/2004. The movies listed production date is 09/23/2003
Lee, what movies do you have that are earlier than these? [/code] Thanks, Den
I am curious as to why Haley Paige isn't nominated.
We all know that AVN is probably going to hand this to the new contract girl: Teagan. I prefer most of the other girls on that list over her but if you go by "who among those girls had the biggest year" instead of "who is the best performer" I'd say the obvoius choices are Teagan and Cytherea.

Teagan, in the beginning, was pretty much only working for Anabolic. She had shot a few (don't know exactly how many) scenes for Anabolic before the convention this past year, but they didn't get released until later.
From a fans perspective I would have to go with Missy Monroe. She started out slow in the Fall of 2003 but changed her appearance and up'd her sexual energy and has been just CRAZY HOT for the last six months or so.
While generating the most press, Teagan Presley does not come close to delivering the goods like Ms. Monroe and her performances on video were the same from her beginning to her most recent. I want to see growth in my Starlet's! (I just remembered her scenes with Jules Jordan so maybe I need to retract that statement.)
Cytheria is another great choice. No doubt!
Nautica Thorn could wear the crown and Christie Lee and Audrey get Honorable Mentions too!
For me it's between Teagan, Katrina, and Vicky with Missy really coming on this past summer so she should get some late votes! I'd probably go with Katrina overall but any of the three I mentioned would be good choices for me.
Den's list from 12 years ago is interesting. Out of that lineup, who would have guessed that Dana Vespoli would currently be the one with the high-profile porn career? I know Teagan remains a public figure/fan favorite, but I'm not clear if she still does any scenes.
^ I don't know, while Dana is still a mainstream performer (and I'd argue that she gets more accolades/recognition as a director than a performer at the moment), Vicky Vette is doing really well for herself at the moment in running her VNA network. If you were to ask me who is currently more successful between the two, I'd have a hard time making a decision. And that's ignoring the fact that Dana had the benefit of taking a few years off.
