Yeah there are a ton of categories each year but AVN (and later on the outside voters) have a really big job trimming it down so I think we can all understand people will be miffed, pissed, happy and befuddled about some noms or lack of them. For example I am truly surprised that Misty Stone did not get a Best Actress nomination or Best Supporting Actress for Not the Cosbys XXX. She did get Best Supporting Actress for Flight Attendants which she also deserves but I thought she would get Best Actress for Cosbys XXX. AVN did take a look at her body of work for the year and put her in the FPOTY category which is quite an accomplishment for her and if you seriously take a look, she is more than just a token nomination. I could bitch up a storm that Not the Cosbys XXX did not get a nom for Best Interracial release but what the fuck do I know? Not saying it is the best interracial sex movie but it certainly could have been considered a possibility for that category because it is the most elaborate interracial (and most expensive)interracial movie ever made. It did get a nom for Best Parody and Thomas Ward for Best non-sex role which he really should win cuz he's fucking brilliant as Cliff Huxtable. Have you seen the guy? Over the years I have read that the awards are fixed or the biggest advertisers always win but I have to say that in my mind that speculation was ended when our associated company SexZ Pictures won Best Video Feature two years in a row. There was NO political or financial reason for SexZ to win the grand award the second year in a row but Upload won because it was regarded as the best flick of the year. AVN could have easily awarded it to a Wicked movie or some other big company and probably not many would have thought twice but the voters chose the winner so I don't believe anything is fixed. SexZ was not a huge advertiser by the way. I can also say that many 'big' companies asked Paul Fishbein this September to push back the movie release deadline of Sept 30 in order to allow more time to finish editing a few of the bigger feature movies but he said NO in order to keep it fair to all. I know because I asked him when we were working around the clock finishing up Flight Attendants and I respect his decision. So it's a difficult task choosing the noms that's for sure and I congratulate AVN's effort even though not all will be happy all the time. Lastly to the guy that asked about little awards such as Best Menus and why are they even offered? I can tell you first hand that if it wasn't for Best Menus, our biggest movie ever Not the Bradys XXX (one of the biggest selling porn movies in recent history- yeah we were shocked too) would have been totally shut out from winning any AVN awards including Best Marketing. When they announced that we had won Best Menus nobody gave a shit of course but we cheered like we were at the Academy Awards drinking beer with Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. We still laugh about that to this day. Good luck to everybody nominated and also to those that weren't nominated but created entertaining movies. IMO Female Performer of the Year should be someone who's work was consistently of Top Quality during the year. Meaning the scenes "worked" for the target audience, be it gonzo, features, couples, extreme sex, g/g, fetish, whatever. And, yes, they should have had a lot of sexvids released, from a single company or different companies. Since AVN now has about 120 award categories, they can probably add one more: Workhorse of the Year. That would honor the performer who worked the most. [Link]

But she didn’t have a solid year as a performer. As a director yes but as a performer no. The nomination is a way to show that she is still important to the industry but winning isn’t something that we see happening this year now last year maybe. Lexi Belle- Last years WTF nomination for best new starlet gets a nom for POF so its easy to see that someone at AVN likes this girl but once again with no Anal or IR and she hasn’t been the lead in any feature film. She puts on a good scene but hasn’t really been matched with anyone who gives her the chemistry we know she can pull off- a solid girl but not POY. Misty Stone- One of the best Black Female Performers in the industry. This girl has stood out in some great films this year. But not to the point to win POT. An before you start hitting me with your how could you be so racist comments- Misty dosen’t do Anal did almost no group scenes and dosent have the star stand out looks of some other performs in and out side of this category black or white. So her winning it wont happen. The contract girls- AKA the company nod. Many of us think that AVN gives noms/awards to girls who shouldn’t get them to keep the big companies happy – there really should be a separate category called best contract performer Ashlynn Brooke/ Jesse Jane/ Kayden Kross/ Jenna Haze Ashlynn had a good( not great year) no big stand outs – no IR and in her features is usually second to who ever else is in the movie- Tori Black, Kagney Lynn Carter, and Andi Sand Demus gave hotter scenes in movies she was supposed to be the star of. (why is she a contract girl again? Jesse Jane- is the love of my life but once again this wasn’t her year and she had little to no stand out performances( other then her msnbc interview) no anal and no ir( it wont happen!) – but you shouldn’t give her an award just for showing up this isn’t 3rd grade Jenna Haze- should get an award for directing. Her performances didn’t get any better or worse this year, but then again she worked more the last 3 years then she did this year. Many of their scenes are freak show porn and almost little to no feature work. Bobbi the prettiest of the 3 but didn’t do anything that most porn viewers would watch alone or with the wife, but would watch during the frat party playing in the back ground during keg stands. Dana is sweet but times seems like she is in another world in scenes and Amber nod’s seems like it was given to her cause some one has been watching her past work – Her best year was 2 years ago not 2009! With many of their scenes being too rough or too crazy with one party in the scene either them or the male talent looking as if half way through the scene like what have I gotten myself into. Seeing any of these girls win would just be sad for the industry and I wouldn’t put my money on any of them taking home the award. The WTF noms- Chayse Evens/ Nikki Rhodes/ Ann Marie Rios Chayse Evans- No idea how or why they got a noms-no Anal or IR in some or most cases and almost no feature work-Tho these girls are hot and give good scenes none of them are stand out performers compared to some of the others- Chayse bloomed later in the year and had great scenes on many internet sites – see her scene on (Blacksonblondes) but once again with her look and energy and lack of chemisty ,they all are good just not good enough. Nikki Rhodes is a cute but not a superstar no IR and last year was a great year for her …but what was she in this year? Ann Marie Rios…who is she? A fan fav- could win but I’m sad to say she just didn’t out shine Tori Black Tori – Should win – but may fall a victim to porno politics- Watching her movies with my wife, my friends or alone hell she was almost in EVERY FUCK MOVIE I WATCHED THIS YEAR – I thought wow why is she not a contract girl! Alexis not being nominated is a clear snub IMO. I simply don't know any other way to take it. Quaze says not to worry about her though, so I'll heed his words. The fact that poster has never even heard of Ann Marie Rios shows me how unfair the business can be at times, and how blind he is. Ann Marie is fuckin' hot, I don't know what he's not seeing. I think for the most part they did alright with the noms but I missed seeing Gianna, Alexis and Bree on that list. I won't say who'd I take off but I have a few I could interchange with those three ladies. As for who will win the big prize I think this year is really wide open but I see the winner coming from Kristina, Tori, or Jenna. There are so many great girls in this category, Bobbi, Dana jump out to me and for the contract side I totally see Jesse and Ashlynn as deserving nominees and perhaps they should bring back the Contract girl of the year category because those girls along with other awesome performers like jessica drake should get some recognition for their overall work and not just put them in the acting categories with selected scene noms. It should be an interesting evening for the big categories as there isn't any real obvious choice for Best Newbie or Best Female or Best Male so I hope to make the awards again, I actually like going, laughing at the skits-- sometimes and seeing the girls dressed up so good luck everyone! Click to expand I totally agree with this post. I mentioned this a week or so ago, that I'd be upset if I saw Alexis Texas's name in the POTY nominees, just because she gets a lot of work. IN MY OPINION, she is a weak performer, it all just mostly looks fake. Her anal work leaves a lot to be desired, and is still very rare. I am actually glad that for once, I am pretty happy with most of the picks this year. A big congratulations to Jenna Haze on her Company's instant recognition and success. I always knew she'd be a great director, and she has proven it...just like everything else she does. I hope she picks up most of them. Very glad to see Bobbi Starr up for so many nominations too, all this recognition is well deserved...and long over due. A very strong contender for Female performer of the Year, for sure. I am surprised not to many people are predicting a Tori Black win, because she has had a great year. She finally gave up the ass, and put out some of the best titles and scenes of the year. She is an incredible performer, and she doesn't hold back. Same goes for Kristina Rose...the girl keeps getting better and better. I have no idea how Bobbi's name slipped my mind in my post last week, but Bobbi is one of the front runners for sure. Bobbi, Tori and Kristina. I would give it to Bobbi or Tori, this year...but I'd be happy for Kristina too, if she Won. Bobbi might just lose out because Tori and Kristina sold A LOT of movies this year with the big titles they put out...specially Tori. The girl has major Star Power! p.s. How come there is no category for "best Directorial Debut"? Or there is, and I just missed it? n if so, how come Jenna Haze isn't nominated for it? Given the number of porn releases in any given year and the number of female performers that enter and leave porn, it would be almost impossible to truly determine the best of the best. Yes some cream will rise to the top, but overall these awards are nothing more than a feelgood stroke to the largest advertisers. I mean seriously, there are roughly 15 nominees per category and it was mentioned that there are 120 categories. That's 1800 pieces of porn that would have to be reviewed. Excluding websites, figure 1500 scenes at 20 minutes minimun, that's roughly 30,000 minutes or 500 hours of porn to be reviewed just for the award show. That's almost 3 months of work time per employee. When would they have time to actually put out the magazine? Or, the person in charge of the award show could just look at the largest advertisers and nominate a variety of their releases, make up enough categories so noone gets left out, and then pick a name out of hat to be declared a winner. In the event of a non "Pirates" type of movie that grosses millions, the awards are spread out over the pool so that every company can then take out ads in AVN thanking AVN for giving them the award for "Best Cum Gargling in Piledriver" scene. Just for good measure, AVN throws in a few nominees that don't advertise with them just to dispell the notion that it's not a feelgood for the biggest advertisers. IMHO, for these awards to be taken seriously as far as actual performer awards are concerned, I don't see how anyone without 50+ releases in any given year could even be nominated. [Link]

I think both Kristina and Tori had amazing years though so it's hard to predict who will win. I also think a strong case could be made for Bobbi Starr and Dana DeArmond which makes it even harder to predict. I personally feel that Kristina has the best body of work over the past year but that might just be my own bias.
