Zero Tolerance Entertainment =========================================================== [/code] First congrats to the winner, Jack's Playground - Digital Playground.
I am making some changes on my site and I am going to add 2 new categories, Gonzo and Reality.
Should Jack's Playground, College Invasion and Shane's World be Reality?
It seems to me that all the others are flat out sex action and these 3 are combination of sex and 'R'

A film theorist once said: "A genre which encompasses both Ernest Lubtitsch and Jerry Lewis is in trouble." I would like to add: "And has probably very little descriptive value."
Edited: Jacks' Playground won?

This is the only award I think it will take me all year to get over Evil Angel not winning. If you asked me the day before the awards to bet on the two awards that I was sure we would win, I would have said Best Gonzo Series and Best Gonzo Movie.
It looks as if they're lumping everything that isn't a 'feature' together.
Even though I often incorrectly use the term 'gonzo' interchangeably with 'all-sex' (it's just easier), even *I* know the difference, although I'm less clear on the difference between 'reality' and 'gonzo'.
AVN failing to make the distinction is inexcusable however, and imo they need to make separate categories.
I thought Gonzo simply meant acknowledging the camera is there. Breaking the fourth wall. Looking or speaking directly to the camera, as opposed to the camera being a "secret" observer.
I was also convinced Hellcats, Service Animals or Flesh Hunter had great chances to win the award!Although I don't know all the other series competing for this one, those 3 lines are top-quality gonzo series!
I agree. Gonzo is also often seen as porn done cheap and nasty by amateurs (who won't use condoms, unlike the caring feature producers). To me gonzo is porn where the camera is part of it. And is recording the crazy (but everyday) life of the person holding it. I think i read somewhere taht John Stagliano thought it would be intersting to have a camera "left" on it's side to film the sex, so the viewer would feel they were watching through the camera. This can, if done well have more artistic merit than features. Buttman and Ben Dover who copied him (as he admits) are definatly Gonzo, MilfHunter, BangBus etc are also Gonzo. Stuff like Shane's World and Mid-night Prowl are more a reality porn.

Personally I group Jack's in Gonzo. then group College Invasion and Shane's World in reality.
My reasoning is that College Invasion and Shane's World take place in REAL places with some element of uncontrolled environments. Jack's, although real looking, is pretty well planed out and stuff (as far as the location for sex). College Invasion and Shane's World both have sex that don't go down on sets.
I do want to add I like Jack's Playground ALOT, but don't think it stands up against anything JJ puts out... The Flesh Hunter series is one DAMN fine series, easily my favorite of all those.
Oh, and as for the term 'Gonzo', any time a person behind the camera talks to some one in front of the camera, I say it's Gonzo... Just looking at the camera is borderline, but I leave that in the 'All-Sex' category.
Well, Jack's Playground certainly ISN'T in the reality category...each edition is scripted, with actors playing parts. I do think it's gonzo though - gonzo doesn't necessarily have to be unscripted hand-held camera sex. Those other gonzo directors may not write up the dialogue for each scene like Jack's does, but they certainly think up the situations and settings before hand (see any Jules Jordan or Seymore Butts video).
