I guess Mason got slighted because her videos (MA, Buttwoman and Slutwoman) came out so late in the year? Edited by - BlackSix on 11/26/2007 10:45:36 PM

She's nominated with William H. for director for their Brianna movie. You can't get nominated for body of work for directing 1 or 2 movies during the eligible year. It's not a slight on her, just the way the category works.
My vote would be Manuel Ferrara, his movies are sooo cool!!! You rock, Manny!!!! But Jake Malone is original too and his vision is so needed, love you Jake you sick fuck!!!
It's gotta be Jake Malone, and not just because I am such a dorky fangirl, but because his body of work this year was just plain outstanding, unique, memorable, and better than anyone else's.
My darling strumpet 3sb. You are so kind, and the Skronkster too. I cannot take ANY list of "best" directors that does not even include Mike John seriously. There are a couple of "directors" ( and I use the term lightly) on that list that coudn't carry Mike's jock strap. I know it's all a game but please, AVN, GET REAL!!!
Yea, you should be, it's fucked up. I hardly pay attention to these AVN awards. Darkko and Vouyer are the tops on that list for me. No Quasarman, no Van Styles?

I was a little disappointed Joey didn't make it - but he was nominated in that category last year. HeyNow - for some weird reason, Hustler seems to not have released hardly any new Van Styles movies in the last year. Now that he's directing for Vince Voyeur also, we'll get some new ones from him again.
Spot on assessment. Jake has a solid body of work before '07; one that many might think would be hard to improve upon. He not only improved upon it, he put the bit between its teeth, filled its ass with milk, and fucked it four ways from Sunday - all in the first 20 minutes! I agree about the omissions, and have doubts about others. Admitedly, I don't watch everything (thank God, truth be told), yet I think I understand the idea of "raising the bar", regardless of audience. Jake has raised the bar, in his own style, in his own time, and own his own terms. Can anyone say they don't get an intense feeling simply when the intro to a Malone trailer chimes in? Much less all the little moments amidst the jaw dropping erotic artistry of his exceptional body of work. What? too much? Edited to highlight threesomebody's choice of "memorable" His work is just that - memorable. Movies to which others make comparisons. Edited by - MythMaker on 12/3/2007 11:37:07 PM
Oh yeah, I was so startled about the omission of Mike, I hadn't even noticed Joey. Now it's really bogus. I guess it's really all just a game of some sort. I thought it was weird that they nominated my POV BJ scene with Lorelie and Annette from "Nice Fucking View" for best POV scene. Always good to get your name mentioned I guess, but it's only a BJ scene. The girls are crazy/sexy/cool, as always, but you can't really compare that to the other nominees, they're fuck scenes!? Whatever they're smokin' over there at AVN must be good shit. Mythmaker, I'm speechless. Thanx for your kind words. ( Your check is in the mail. LOL) Now put your dick back in your pants and get a real hobby!
I'm always up to see Joey nominated, he is my all time favorite adult director, but even I have to admit that this has not exactly been his strongest year. That isn't to say he hasn't had some good films. I'm loving the Face Fucking, Inc. series and enjoyed Strap Attack, but it seemed to be a year where Joey was most interested in his TS titles. That is fine, but that doesn't seem to be the way to court awards. I think Joey should continue to follow his own muse and the awards will find their way back to him.

Cmon, its all about the advertising dollar with avn. They push whoever they are paid to push. If you think these avn awards aren't biased, I got some swampland for sale.

Thanks for the shout-out for Van, Tricia. :-) He has some great new VM shows on the way; his Jenna Haze vehicle N 2 Deep is streeting December 17th. Interestingly, he mentioned to me recently that he completed a Jenna movie for that other company months ago but they still haven't gotten around to releasing it. [Link]

^ Tricia, it was great seeing you as well! :-) Billy, of course I'll be seen as biased, but I really do concur completely, given the scope of the nominations he did receive, especially - Best Video Feature, Best Non-Sex Performance, and Best Screenplay - Video nominations for Melt alone. In terms of a true body of work, this has been his best year to date. Edited by - DM/PR on 12/5/2007 7:32:46 PM
Seriously. let's get back to me for a minute. I shot 32 fucking movies last year (no pun intended). I edited 24 of them. My right eye is as swollen as my liver. I know I'm not the most perverted director out there but fuck man, how 'bout a token mention? I drink alone at night editing porn. My wife and I exchange glances 2 or 3 times a week instead of having sex. I wake up with night terrors because I spend 75% of my life trying to crop some dude's taint out of a shot. How 'bout a little respect for a man that has given the last 16 years of his pitiful life to this thankless business!! Wow, I'm truly a sad human being. My apologies.
I am replying to this as a porn fan and not as a reviewer. There are 2 names on the list that I never heard of. AVN is behind times and needs a list of Feature Directors and Gonzo Directors! I find it hard to believe that these Director's are missing: ========================================== Mike John Bobby Rinaldi Quasarman Will Ryder Van Styles Christoph Clark Den
That Jenna Haze scene in N 2 Deep is with August; wish I could post the back boxcover. HOT!!! And I think Ivan really deserved a nomination in this category this year. I'm pulling for William H. and Jonni Darkko. Edited by - Crucifixio_Jones on 12/6/2007 12:17:56 AM

Quaze- I already told ya - if you come to Vegas, at least you'll have someone to drink WITH. :) On topic, although I know of all the directors nominated, there's two that I seriously raised my eyebrow over.
Let's just call a spade a spade: I don't know who the fuck Rick Davis or Bill Fisher is. I'm not saying they don't deserve to be nominated, I'm just saying that I think of Joey Silvera before I think of them.

Rick Davis directed for VCA, Smash, and Cherry Boxxx. Bill Fisher and Cesar Capone are the same person. Bill directs Club Jenna features. Cesar directs gonzo.
Dear Mike, I own several dozen of the DVDs that you have either directed or shot. In fact, I probably own more DVDs of yours than of all the nominated directors combined. If you wish, you may take solace and find comfort in this fact and the fact that through your toiling, millions of my sperm have been set free from the restrictive confines of my bulging scrotum. You do not suffer in vain; you, dear sir, suffer for my spooge. Proper etiquette would normally prevent me from sharing these details with most individuals, but as a stalwart veteran pornographer and cameraman, I know that you are not easily appalled by these sorts of things; after all, you spend many days bravely creeping up to feverishly wanking meat puppets for the money shot and narrowly dodging the wayward sauce that their stroking splatters asunder. But I have digressed. I doubt that my spooge would make as attractive a table or shelf ornament as an AVN award, and believe it or not, I am not creepy enough to send it to you or the lovely Courtney. Restraining orders are a bitch, or so I have heard. Besides, my spooge will not get you guys as much bling-bling as the money I spent on the DVDs. With the money, you two can have a couple of drunken nights on the town. Alternately, the money can be spent replenishing your stock of editing liquor. Shit, I have digressed again, as I am likely to do after several brews. You are not the only one to enjoy a few heartfelt meandering drunk posts every now and then. You are one of the few posters at ADT that I follow consistently. In fact you are the porn director that I would most like to meet. I hope that you receive handsome monetary compensation for your efforts. Ultimately, you should not seek approval from an association like AVN. It is probably not as important as the appreciation and money of your consumers and fellow perverts. Sincerely, Walter PS. If you used your "real" fake names instead of several different ones, would this increase your chances of getting a nomination? The people at AVN may not bother to check IAFD or follow porn closely enough to keep track of all the pseudonyms. PPS. Go roger your lovely wife. It will do you both good and you may even feel less bitter afterwards. Edited by - Walter on 12/6/2007 3:39:01 AM
Joey is probably sitting in his beautiful house up in the hills, naked, in a huge pile of skun-gillian dollar bills that goes all the way to the ceiling, looking down at us petty, competitive mortals, laughing, and thinking, "Nominations?...I don't need no stinking nominations." LOL
Walter, in the cold sobriety of a september morn, your kind words fall like snowflakes upon my soul. Yes, dammit. I will roger my wife. If not today, tomorrow and if not then, certainly before christmas. AVN won't be the coal in my stocking :)
This category, as with others, confuses me regarding what criteria AVN uses to determine who is Best? Is it based more on body of work, rental/sales level, critical acclaim (published or fanbased), or some combination with other considerations? This has a taint of "marketing" in it, rather than a critical edge. Many of these nominations "feel" like they cater to what will attract the attention of the general consumer more than appeasing the critical eye of the connoisseur. Does that make sense? This forum, as an example, is full of the critical consumer and industry members interested in generating the "best" product. It is not the ultimate say of what is great, but it reflects an informed opinion (in that most everyone who cares enough to post regularly has watched more than a few videos). Having a race between the top 7 or 8 directors who have the most distinguished body of work, for us, may have a focus on a group that does not capture the cross section of genres/styles represented by this list. I'm not sure I'm saying this clearly, but I want to express that AVN wants to make adult products accesible to everyone. To help that be a reality, it needs to ackowledge the widest range of product which may not necessarily reflect what is "Best". Would it be fair to say that AVN is more and more a marketing tool (owing to its public exposure) in place of being a source of truly critical commentary? I really like AVN, and what it has and continues to do, but the awards element raises questions. All opinions - but I hope for some kind of answer, whether its obvious or not. Edited post to include I just read Tricia's explanation of the nomination process in another thread, which helps. Still hope for other comments! Edited by - MythMaker on 12/6/2007 10:32:53 PM
Me, too ... and Mike John. Although, I watched less Silvera than ever this year. I wasn't into the idea that he was playing to niches ... (other than Face Fucking INc!!!) much preferred the Hellcats/Service Animals approach, even if the scenes are basically the same ...
