I apologize for that, Jessica.
But I assure you it was not intentional. Not in the slightest.
I'll stand by my original posts, but I'll also concede that you do work harder than the average contract girl. AVN has plenty of categories to recognize your accomplishments, and none should be considered lesser than the next. I just feel like FPOTY should focus on the on-screen performance, and not that performer's career as a whole.
At the risk of pushing my luck, I'll even take it one step further. There are simply too many nominees for FPOTY each year. When you have an average of 15 nominees for a single category, it only magnifies the slights and insults to those left out of the race. I'm not saying they should go for the Oscar norm of 5. But less than 10 sounds much better.

+1. But, if not for Female Performer of the Year, Monique should get awards for her IR work in "Cry Wolf" and "Monique's Been Blackmaled."

Wow, you're right...that is a pretty safe prediction.
Seeing as how there really aren't that many major companies out there that's about as shocking as saying "Elegant Angel, Wicked, Digital Playground and Vivid will win awards." That's not a prediction, that's a guarantee. It's not a matter of IF they'll win any AVN awards, it's WHICH ones. If you ever care to step even remotely near the outside of that safe zone, maybe you can tell us WHICH movies from those companies will win awards and if you want prove how brave you really are, you'll say in which categories.
For example:
"I think Evil Angel/Jonni Darkko will win Best All-Sex Release for E For Eva."
But don't use that one 'cause that's MY prediction.

I knew what you meant when you first wrote your statement too. But if they're ever going to make sure everyone who should be credited properly does it may be time for AVN to do seperate feature and gonzo awards so everyone's in the proper place.
LOL I also knew it would still be read the way Jessica did also.

Well, they did do away with the Film categories after the last awards. Maybe that'll open the door for your idea.
A Feature/Gonzo distinction actually makes more business and logical sense than the Golden Globes' awkward Drama/Comedy split.

I think you can add My Plaything Ashlynn Brooke to the Interactive category, holy shit is this a must have for any Ashlynn fan, three discs chocked full of anything and everything Ashlynn!! They do it right too separating the discs too, one is for good girl and the other which I've not watched yet is bad girl! There's a third disc for the extras which include a very nice interview with our girl, you don't hear the questions just her responses and I thought it was a very good interview, she's continuing the anal practice boys so keep a look out!She lost count on how many cocks were used in this so all real pops, two for each guy I believe she says. So I'd say we have Bree's, Gina's and now Ashlynn's to battle it out with how ever many others that get included.

It may have been mentioned already, but "Pirates 2" will clean up.
But, it will be for the production, not performances--except for the Jesse Jane/Belladonna girl/girl scene [This is their second at bat, first being paired in "Jesse Jane Erotique".]
On the male side, Evan Stone will get Best Male Performance for his work in this sexvid.

^ For Evan, do you mean Best Male Performer (which is body of work through the year, and includes sex performance, overall performance, and total package) or do you mean Best Actor, which is for a single movie - and deals over 95% for acting.

Originally I meant for Best Performance by Actor for his work in "Pirates 2"--but, I'm going to expand it and say he may win both Best Actor and Best Male Performer of the year. I can't think of a single poor performance by him during the past year. Not bad for a guy who's been around for the number of years he has.

i was curious to see if i got nominated for the Best New Starlet category and was looking around the AVN Awards website and it looks like that to be nominated someone has to submit you? or submit yourself? i don't know how all this works. but then i see the deadline has passed. i'm not with an agency at the moment. is that who normally nominates girls?
i am just wondering if anyone can tell me how all this works? and does this mean i'll be left out of the nominations?

Sandy - performers can nominate themselves by supplying AVN with a couple of DVDs that they have good scenes in.
You might want to contact the person on the nominations site to see if it is indeed too late.

wtf? it's not that hard to research your list before posting. several of these girls have been in the biz 2+ years.
Loona Lux? i don't think she's made enough of a splash to be noticed at all. same story with Mya Nichole.
Jenny Hendrix?? dude, are you serious? she's been around since 2005!
Rachel Roxx was eligible for last years Best New Starlet noms.
Stoya was definitely eligible last year.
i believe Kristina Rose was eligible for last years as well.
chrissakes... how many chances should a girl get to win the Best New Starlet award? i hope this years nomination in this category are alot more legit than they have been in past years.

Actually, with the exception of Jenny Hendrix I don't see anything wrong with the new guy's list, it's Narcissus' criticisms that are off-base. I actually think it's too soon for newer girls like Mya Nichole and Loona Luxx to get Best New Starlet noms; realistically, if they get nominations at all, it'll be next year for them.
But a lot of people in this very thread have Kristina Rose and Stoya (who actually seems to be the overwhelming favorite) picked for Best New Starlet and I, too, have Rachel Roxxx on my list.
The only thing I was going to say in response to Miguel V's post was "Maya Gates? Female Performer of the Year? Seriously?" But being from Peru he's likely a little biased.

so, let me follow your logic here: although Loona Luxx and Mya Nichole are eligible for this years Best New Starlet nomination... but because they haven't put out a large enough body of work in the eligibility period to actually win.... AVN should just go ahead and pass them through to next years nominations so they'll enjoy the odds stacked in their favor next year?
hmmmm.
well, gee... since the eligibility period doesn't fit in with CJ and others opinion of who should be nominated... ...let's just say fuck the rules and pick whoever. hell, why we are at it (and using similar logic)... let's go ahead and toss Linda Lovelace in this years Best New Starlet pool. hell, why stop there? let's find some other girls we like so we can go ahead and bend the rules for them, too, while we're at it.
the girls i listed are not eligible according to the guidelines set by AVN themselves. end of story. if actual dates of an eligibility period are set, nothing anyone has to say can legitimately justify a gray area. chrissakes.
it's the kind of logic that CJ put forth (if applied), that causes award shows (both xxx and mainstream), to lose their credibility.

oooh killbill... tsk tsk, are you serious??
i didn't even have to dig any further than an article AVNs own website for this...
The eligibility period for 2009 awards consideration includes any movie released between Oct. 1, 2007 and Sept. 30, 2008. A title must be carried by at least 10 wholesale distributors or 100 retail outlets to qualify.
but the real problem here is that it seems that even industry folks can't seem to put their finger on an exact definition of the nomination guidelines, "word for word."
c'mon guys. this stuff is so basic.

Since you singled me out...what, in your eyes, makes Loona Luxx and Mya Nichole so damned "eligible"? Who says they're eligible? YOU?
Any other day I'd take the time to explain to you but it's honestly much more fun to read how irritated you got and hear you ramble on about "eligibility" when it's obvious you don't really know much about who's eligible, who's not and who or what makes that determination.
Instead, I will bless you with a single perfect and shining example since "the girls you listed are not eligible. period":
When I met Kristina Rose in Vegas last January, I'd say she probably had less than 10 scenes under her belt and I'd count her lucky if any of them were actually released at that point (I didn't see an actual scene from her on DVD until that February). I'd have been surprised if there were many fans who even knew who she was. I'd say it would be mighty hard for someone to vote for a starlet they had never even seen or maybe seen only once or twice. But according to YOU, somehow she was "eligible" for Best New Starlet that year. If coming into the business in November or December makes you "eligible" for an awards show that takes place in January (with the final votes likely tallied a couple of weeks before in December), I think I'll stick with AVN's eligibility window and "bent rules." Where you would call it "stacking the odds in their favor", I prefer to call it giving them a fair shake against their peers and not having them pitted against other girls in the same category who have had a longer amount of time to build a fanbase and show us what they can do on camera. If you think it would've been fair to put someone like Kristina Rose who barely had a scene to her name by January of last year versus the eventual Best New Starlet winner, Bree Olson then I don't know what else to say. This year will be the year a girl like Kristina Rose rightfully sees a Best New Starlet nomination and will be looking at much better shot at winning than last year when she was a virtual unknown. Kristina last year is just an example. The same logic can be applied to girls in somewhat similar shoes this year. Like, say...I don't know, a Mya Nichole-type.
Feel free to argue with that all you like but I'm done.

Thank you. More specifically, what we require here are the guidelines for the Best New Starlet Award, since that's what we're talking about. Here we go:
Best New Starlet - New female performer who has had the most impact during the eligibility period (sex, acting and marketability all factored in)
Notice that nowhere in the above definition does it say that the girl cannot have made any films prior to the eligibility period. That's so AVN never has to be accused of breaking their own rules.

damn. you guys are making me go a long way just to prove you wrong.
Kristina Rose has 5 dvd titles released before Sept 30th of 2007, which would have made her plenty eligible for the 2008 Best New Starlet nomination. her first dvd that i can locate, Bomb Shell Bottoms 3 was released July 15th of 2007. so obviously she was shooting scenes as early as June 2007.
it's a very weak argument to claim the eligibility dates should be bent for girls entering the biz around August, September, October. some girls shoot 50+ scenes in that time. some girls may only shoot 5 to 10 scenes.
The eligibility period for 2009 awards consideration includes any movie released BETWEEN Oct. 1, 2007 and Sept. 30, 2008. A title must be carried by at least 10 wholesale distributors or 100 retail outlets to qualify.
the operative word here is between.
i would imagine that all the awards for the 2009 AVNs are based on everything xxx that's taken place between Oct. 1st, 2007 and Sept. 30th 2008. including the new starlets arriving on the scene and their dvds hitting the streets. (excluding special categories like Hall Of Fame and Lifetime Achievement).

Like I said before, if you think a mere 5 titles is fair or enough to base such a decision on...
Also, you insist on repeatedly citing the rules for the eligibility of individual titles/movies, not Performer awards. killbillvol69 cited the correct rules governing that and also correctly stated that a performer only had to have a significant impact DURING the eligibility period, not to have debuted between the dates which define the eligibility period, which you STILL don't seem to understand yet. That means someone could have been active before the eligibility period and still qualify.
That's just it -- there are no "real" dates for those particular categories. So even if Kristina Rose debuted in June 2007 like you claim, if she didn't make her noticeable "impact" on the business until this year's eligibility window (the Oct 1, 2007 - Sept 30,2008 you keep pushing) she still qualifies to be nominated for Best New Starlet. Simple as that. Which accurately explains why a girl who technically debuted in 2002, Jennifer Luv was able to be nominated for Best New Starlet alongside the likes of Audrey Hollander, Christy Lee, Cytherea (the winner), Dana Vespoli, Dani Woodward, Gia Paloma, Katrina Kraven, Lily Thai, Luci Thai, Missy Monroe, Nautica Thorn, Nicki Hunter, Teagan Presley (the favorite) and Vicki Vette at the 2005 Awards Show. Because she didn't make her IMPACT until 2004.
To explain further, look at the girls I named above. Most of them made their debuts in late '03; anywhere between Sept-Dec. They weren't up for Best New Starlet at the January '04 show. No. They worked whatever of '03 they could and all of '04 and ended up being nommed for Best New Starlet for the Jan '05 show.
So how are we wrong again?

i thought you were done?
fair? let's talk about fair to those girls who really are new - with their first dvd releases coming after Oct 1st, 2007.
like i said, any reasonable person would conclude that the 2009 AVN Awards covers everything that happened in the eligibility period. including the Best New Starlet category.
you just pulled this statement out of your ass.
awesome, with this logic, i nominate Nina Hartley for Best New Starlet this year. we can argue which year(s) she made a noticable other than her real first year in the adult biz.
you're seriously citing this glitch as justification for bending the rules? now you've gone beyond ridiculous and anything else you have to say on the subject is counterfeit.
cross.gifthis is going nowhere without some input from an AVN rep.

If they're really standout girls, chances are they'll be nominated the following year. Sounds fair to me.
They do. But some categories aren't CONFINED to that eligibility period (i.e. a performer could have been active BEFORE the period and still qualify). You need a reading comprehension class. I'm tired of explaining this.
I certainly did not. You just don't seem to understand plain English.
I don't make the rules. I can only cite was has actually happened.
OH NOES!!!!
Good luck getting that. But there are plenty of people who post here are familiar with or have taken part in the process (myself included). But oh yeah, anything else I have to say on the subject is counterfeit.

*just because things have been done wrong here and there... doesn NOT justify them.
*there is NO explaining why some starlets that have been around longer than a year get nominated. it's not a scientific process.
*my reading comprehension is just fine, thank you. alot of you taking liberties in your interpretation of AVNs eligibility guidelines. (much in the same way the Bush Administration has done with the U.S. Constitution.)

@Narcissus: I'm well aware of the definition of the word "between", but thanks for the help.
Here's the point I was making: while the explanation of the Best New Starlet Award and eligibility period explain that the films considered will be the ones released during the eligibility period itself, they do not say that if someone released a film before the eligibility period, they are automatically not eligible.
That's the point.
Nowhere in AVN's own rules does it say who isn't eligible. It only says that they'll consider people's work during a particular period. It doesn't say that they have to have their first film be released during that period.
Should they say that? Maybe. Or even probably. But they don't. And that's my point.
You can't say that AVN is breaking their own rules, when their own rules don't say anything about what happens when someone releases a film prior to the eligibility period.
They probably wrote the rules that way on purpose, so that they could consider people who had released something prior to the eligibility period.
[edit: let me just add one more sentence. If they wanted to have the rule be such that you aren't eligible if your first film came out before the eligibility period, they probably would have worded the rule like this: "Best New Starlet - New female performer who has had the most impact during the eligibility period (sex, acting and marketability all factored in), without having any titles released prior to the eligibility period." That last part, that I put in italics, is what I added to their words. If they had something like that, it would be crystal clear. But they don't.]

holy cow...
can you guys just go back and read your own writing? are we seriously having this discussion?
is this your best reasoning? "because it doesn't say"?
well then, let's us make a list of things "it doesn't say" in the AVN qualifications posted on their site. (i would imagine there exist a much more detailed version of the qualifications, with explanations, that are not posted online.)
it doesn't say - porn stars in the biz 5+ years cannot be nominated for the Best New Starlet category.
it doesn't say - Male Foreign Performer of the Year needs to be a foreigner.
it doesn't say - Best New Starlet needs to be at least 18 years of age.
it doesn't say - the Best Makeup needs to fall within the eligibility period.
it doesn't say - Best Actor needs to fall within the eligibility period.
it doesn't say - Best Actress needs to fall within the eligibility period.
it doesn't say - the body of work of Director of the Year needs to fall within the eligibility.
it doesn't say - any of the performers must be humans.
it doesn't say -
it doesn't say -
it doesn't say -
it doesn't say -
it doesn't say -
hey everyone... feel free to add whatever you like to this list. because as long as it doesn't say, then it's all good.
so, just because it doesn't say something, are we to infer that it's not implied just by the mere fact that these awards are held annually? (again, i would imagine there exist a much more detailed version of the qualifications, with explanations, that are not posted online.)

Well for Female performer of the year I would have to mention
Dana Dearmond .
My fav Girl from last year Rebecca Linares has eased off this year.
But Dana Dearmond picked up from where she left last year. Its not easy to have 2 Big years back to back and she has done that very well.
So she gets my Nod for her consistency, great stamina and all round hard work.
My second pick would be her best friend Bobbi Starr. She's another one who did not slow down at all so perhaps they could share the Award if possible hehe.
