So I was browsing AVN Online the other day when my attention was drawn to this article, dated 14 February:
"Director Kay Brandt will host an open casting call...for the lead role in...Babysitting The Baumgartners which is her adaption of the New York Times bestselling novel written by renowned erotic author Selena Kitt...
...The casting call on Feb. 17 will be for the role of the babysitter...
...The babysitter at the heart of the story is a 19-year-old girl named Veronica, or Ronnie in the book, who goes to work for the Baumgartners and finds herself in a kinky love triangle.
"She's the star and the movie revolves around her,"Brandt told AVN. "So this girl has to be able to act and handle a large amount of scenes in four days. Her character has 10 scenes out of the 12. I’m looking for someone with a good attitude who is very professional that is going to see this as an amazing opportunity."
The ideal candidate would be "brunette and petite," Brandt added.
"I can’t have someone with a lot of piercings, a lot of tattoos or breast implants.""
I have often thought feature movies could be tapping into the vast amount of erotic literature out there. Sure, a whole swathe is self-published fleshed-out Penthouse Forum fodder, but the best are well written romps with engaging characters and erotic, sexy situations, incorporated into a meaningful story arc (if at times a little episodic). Turning these into porn features seemed a sensible idea and I'm glad Ms Brandt has decided to do this. The result may not end up having the psychological depth or transgressive kinkiness of the better 'Golden Age' productions but, on the other hand, it could be far more satisfying than parodies of (the current source of porn features) mainstream TV shows and movies, where the sex feels 'clipped on because porn', rather than being integral to the story itself.
The other thing that caught my attention was Ms Brandt's criteria for Ronnie - brunette, petite, no piercings, no tats, no implants, or in two words, Sara Luvv (5 feet, 0 inches; 110 lbs; 32B-24-32).
No piercings (evidence of previous navel piercing)

No tats

...and despite her small stature, not unpleasantly skinny (rib-cagey, twig-like limbs), but quite buff and athletic. And totally hot because she's got a great personality and is an engaging and very competent actress.
So it was a thrill to read this latest announcement: Sara Luvv to Star in 'Babysitting the Baumgartners'.
Shooting is 4-7 March. Watch this space.

Glad to see instead of a "parody" title this is being done as an adult movie adaptation with the consent and help of the author.

Very cool. Yes, seeing it treated as an adaptation is nice, but even those recent films that do try to make legit adaptation still have to say it's a parody to avoid legal trouble. So, it's great the author has given Brandt her blessing.
There have been some decent adaptations of erotic lit, though not very many it's true. My theory on this is that porn wants to work with material it can add to--something that, when you add sex, feels exposed or revealed in some way. Erotic lit already has sex, so what's the point of making it into porn? Someone even said that to me regarding Dracula--"it's already so pornographic."
I just started watching THE SUBMISSION OF EMMA MARX, which seems to be loosely based on The Story of O/50 Shades. I thought it was excellent (so far), and the sex scenes were well integrated into the narrative. The performers stayed in character, too.

That is directed by Eddie Powell correct? I just noticed that he did it, I enjoyed the light comedy features he directed too.

^^ regarding your theory Gore Gore Girl, I'm inclined to agree. Integrating hardcore into an essentially non-pornographic text, if done well, activates a transgressive modality which, for me, turns moving pictures of people fucking into an erotic experience.
Other observations are:
- within mainstream movie making, some directors, notably Kubrick, tended to use the source material as a starting point rather than a roadmap (I'm thinking Lolita and The Shining particularly).
- notwithstanding the explicitly chaste morality of Georgette Heyer's Georgian Romance novels I have often felt a pornographic adaptation of one of those could be fruitful, more so than tapping up the canonical Pride and Prejudice. The difference being that Heyer was constructing a social milieu, albeit richly textured and well researched, whereas Austen was embedded within the society she was satirizing - pornographying Eliza Bennet's situation destroys the substance of her character; on the other hand Heyer's more artificial heroines could be, as you say, added to and revealed by the transformation of the Ton from a dry and ethereal set of social relationships into an erotic physical sexualised environment.
The risk with Brandt's adaptation of Babysitting The Baumgartners is that, in potentially being just a straight filming of the book, the result is bland and homogenized. One can only hope the delightful Ms Luvv will deliver a characterization of Ronnie that we can engage with.

I don't think that movie adaptations of written works should ever be the same. They are a different medium. Often something that is easy to convey with writing is hard within the movie realm and something that is easy to convey within the movie realm isn't in the written realm. While I think that adaptations should keep the general arc, the adaptation should be different in my eyes.

Presumably a persons appreciation of a feature is based on the affinity they have with the story and what kind of sex the story gives rise to - in the same way some people like horror films while some people like love films. If you just wanted to watch porn youd just watch a porno so in this field the story has to be compelling. Obviously as in everything alot depends on execution.
I have no idea what babysitting the beumgartners is about so cant predict what the likely product is going to be but a porn version of the shining would be good so long as it was done with total commitment - like horror maniac sex. Wheras a porn version of say love story where the sex scenes are necessarily very lovey dovey and vanilla would not be so interesting. Although theres no reason why you coudnt make a version of love story and have the characters seemingly angelic and normal on one hand but living a totally deviant secret life.

There are a number of romantic xxx features with loving sex of course there needs to be some kind of conflict to make the story interesting but those films can be just as engaging as the darker films if one's tastes are broad enough.
Chuck Vincent's In Love is the classic example of the romantic melodrama in xxx but his comedies like Jack n Jill and Misbehavin' or Armand Weston's Take Off are also good examples. Loving sex doesn't mean less hot sex, on the contrary the best directors of the 70s often captured their hotest scenes when shooting romantic sex (Spinelli, Pachard, Costello).
