I buy since nearly 3 years now from adultdvdnow and never had any real problems. I was also very satisfied with their customer service.
But on my last order they send me a wrong DVD. After the 3rd email I got a reply that I should send the wrong DVD back at their warehouse at my own costs. They would send me a bonus DVD for the postage charges I will have. After looking at their policies I red that they will only exchange DVDs which are factory sealed. But my DVD is opened because it's an international order and they only sent DVD + artwork. So they can't sell this DVD anymore and therefore it makes no sense to me to send it back. And it was not my mistake, it was theirs!!!
I would also take the risk, that they didn't receive it and I have to make a wrong customs declaration. This isn't what I really want to do. I told them that I don't think that this is a fair deal. Since then I heard nothing anymore.
Is it common use on international orders to first send the wrong DVD back? Are there any shops out there who just send the right DVD and let you keep the wrong one?
Funny you should mention this, camaban, since I've had a faulty DVD that I had to return. To their credit, they did send me another copy the same day but that one didn't work, either, so I've chosen an alternative title.
I think all companies will want you to return faulty or wrong DVDs, simply because otherwise people may take advantage and get second copies or other dvds at no extra cost, where there was nothing wrong in the first place.
I'm starting to have trouble with adultdvdnow as well. I hadn't ordered anything from them in quite some time, at least 6-8 months. So a couple of months ago I ordered one disc and had it sent regular air mail. 3 weeks pass and still no disc in sight. I e-mailed them about it and 3 days later the disc arrives in an express envelope. Fast forward to 2 weeks ago, ordered two discs sent regular mail again, 2 weeks later and still no discs. This is getting old. After I clear this order up I'm not shopping with them anymore, I've had enough.
A faulty disc is something other than one who plays well. For faulty discs it's not important if they are opened, because the shop can give it back to the reseller, because it is faulty. But my disc is not faulty (I think), but also not factory sealed. So they can give it back to the reseller, and they can sell it elsewhere. So in this case the return makes no sense to me.
I can't comment on AdultDVDNow about this issue but it happened to me a few times at FiveStarDVD meaning wrong DVD but they always sent me the right one and I could keep the wrong one. Now that's what I call great service!
Thanks very much Ramsey, sounds like FiveStarDVD will be my new online shop. That's really a great service, but otherwise when they had made the mistake, they are responsible for it and take the risk to have to send out another disc.
But AdultDVDNow think I have to take the risk. I would understand that if I live in the States and the DVD is factory sealed. But not on an international order.
Yes had the same problems with them. That's why Fivestar is my number one shop for years now. I had three backorders with Fivestar which I cancelled, but I already paid the shipping of about $4.50. Instead of recharging me the shipping, Ethan offered me a 10$-Coupon. That's what I call customer support.

By the way: What shipping option do you choose at Fivestar and have you ever get a package confiscated by our friendly German customs?
And what about custom fees with Fivestar? They seem to mark the full value of the goods on the outside of the package. If I'm right you have to pay custom fees, when the value is more than about 20 Euro. How much are these fees in general?
The cheapest because that way they only send you the artwork and discs, it's better that way to avoid customs. I only had one time a problem with customs where I had to pay like 23 euro for a $110 order. That kind of hurt but must a the time it goes good.
Update: After more than 1 month adultdvdnow has finally sent the right DVD at their own costs. I also received a Bonus DVD. Thank you very much, adultdvdnow!
Camaban, i have never had any problems with adultdvdnow, but from fivestar some of my orders are confiscated by friendly german customs, so i stopped buying from them !
Thanks for the info Gapelover. Now that they finally send me the right DVD without wanting back the wrong one, I will finally also buy from them again.
By the way, adultdvdtoday is also a very good shop to buy from when you live in Germany. Never had any package confiscated until now.
I buy since nearly 3 years Adultdvdtoday (hundred of discs)but in recent orders they send me lots of unreadable discs, no emails anwers, no refund for this discs and theyre resending me the same bad discs i returned. At last i lost more than $150 and no discs.
