In my opinion, if I were a female and wanted to be in porn, the very first thing I do is come up with an original name. I want to have a name that has never been used, almost the way horses are required to have. I want to stand out in a search engine and in fans and producers minds. So, look at this: http://www.strongthread.com/talents/ Not sure what this link will look at when you click it, but right now there are 2 girls in the top row with the worst names ever. "Torrey Pines" is there and she even copied the spelling of the popular golf course!? Couldn't go with Tori, Tory, etc... How does Foxxx allow that? Then, right next door is "Dallas". Really!?!?! Dallas???? Not only was there already a "Dallas" in the 90's (she was hot!), but there was also Dallas D'Amour among others. Not to mention the "Debbie Does Dallas" hit on any "Dallas + porn" search. Oh, and then there is the city!!! Why does LADM let her go public with that name? Seriously, who runs these places? Shouldn't someone sit these cute little sluts down and say "look, I know you are willing to swallow loads and take it in the ass by multiple black guys, but don't you want fans to be able to find and identify you?" Ok, small, insignificant rant is over. Speaking of rants, will the search feature ever be fixed here?
Perhaps it has something to do with search engine optimization and getting traffic to their personal site?

A bad name is anything that fucks up my searches. For example, not only has the name "Dallas" been used before, but on doing searches on Google...well, you can guess what I'm getting at...

IMO, f the search produces more than 6 hits at MySpace, then the name probably isn't a good one.

yeah, you'd think that a little more thought would get put into it other than that "What's your porn name" mainstream game. Take your 3rd grade pet's name and the street you live on and you get your name. Mine would be "Bruiser Dirt Road." Not kidding. Anyway, I guesss conventional porn logic is you can't go wrong with the names Nikki, Lynn, and Lelani in all the various forms, spellings, and combinations as those invoke memories of other big porn stars of the past.

http://www.strongthread.com/talent/Naughty_Girl/2954/ This one takes the cake: Naughty Girl? Her agency allowed this? Yeah, she'll be easy to find....
"Any First Name" followed by the surname Lynn. It's been done to death - most famously by Ginger, Amber and Porsche Lynn but also by Adrenalynn, Alexa Lynn, Amberlina Lynn, Bella Lynn, Brea Lynn, Chastity Lynn, Dana Lynn, Debra Lynn, Evelyn Lynn, Gianna Lynn, Gina Lynn, Haley Lynn, Heather Lyn, Jamie Lynn (aka Memphis Monroe), Janie Lynn, Jalynn, Jamie Lynn, Jasmine Lynn, Jasmin Lynn (aka Shay Jordan), Kaiya Lynn, Kaylynn, Kirra Lynne, Krissy Lynn, Krystal-Lynn (Lovely), Krysti Lynn, Mindy Lynn (aka Lindy Lane), Mai Lin (aka Mai Lynn), Mercedes Lynn, Mesha Lynn, Micki Lynn, Misty Lynn, Nikki Lynn, Nina Lynn, Ria Lynn, Rebecca Lynn (aka Krista Lane), Rikki Lynn, Shonna Lynn, Sierra Lynn, Sophia Lynn, Summer Lynn, Summer Lynn (again), Tami Lynn, Tara Lynn (Foxx), Tasha Lynn, Taylor Lynn, Tiana Lynn (one of my favorites!), Vanessa Lynn and Veronica Lynn. That doesn't include the nearly 200+ others who starred in less than 10 titles with Lynn as their surname or others with Lynn as their first name (like Lynn LeMay) or middle name (like Kagney Lynn Karter). Enough already. I'm bored Time to create a different name genre. Edited by - bigfoot on 8/18/2010 10:00:21 AM
If you really want a headache, go to freeones, and hit the search for porn stars,I never realize haw many Tiffanies and Taylors and what not there are.I'd be more impress with an original sounding name.
This so seriously has been one of my big bitches for over a decade now. I've even started a e-book of sorts about it - calling it, The Fame Registry Guide to Being Famous and will be including a very long, extensive chapter on how to pick a name and why it's important for your name to be unique and easy to spell, easy to remember. Seriously how many Tiffany Taylor's do we need in this world? And you know what else I hate seeing? Porn stars who name themselves off of celebrities or their spawns. It really hurts their marketing efforts but whatever. I'll rant on about it in my book. LOL
Anything that sounds like a porn name is a bad porn name. Anything that's hard to pronounce/spell is a bad porn name. Names that sound like the names of people you know are good porn names because they stand out to people who are looking for something different and almost all of the girls in porn use very similar sounding names.
First I'll rant about incompetent producers that misspell or misidentify performers. They fuck up the performers' video listings. Next is the studio that listed Gianna as Gianna Michaels on a video. That was not her choice of name, but search engines took hold of that and made it her name. I don't mind one-word names. Mine is one word. But when choosing a one-word name, please try to make it somewhat original. I was searching for one named Alexa a while ago. How many women in porn are named Alexa? Approximately all of them. Alexis, Elexis, Lexis, Lexi, etc., plus all the Alexandras. I wonder when will porn reach the point of using ID numbers instead of names. Edited by - charn on 8/18/2010 1:27:51 PM
I dont watch much nodern porn but this is my 2 cents. I always thought the name Christy "Canyon" was a shockingly poor name for one of the most notable, well-respected and popular female stars of her era - although obviously the movie titles ("Deep in the Canyon", fnar) wrote themselves. In Jenna Jameson's book she perceptively points out the importance of the name as the model's personal brand and advises aspiring women to pick 'something classy like a Julia Ann' rather than something risibly facile.

Not sure I agree with that entirely. So long as it is memorable and unique, I think it works. For example, Monica Sweetheart. Sounds like a porn name, but its simple, memorable, and unused, plus its tough to misspell. I think its great. One of my fave newbies is Brooke Van Buuren. Sadly, I have seen more spellings of her name than she has features. That name is a mess. If I was an aspiring young cum dumpster, the first thing I do is try to find a simple name that doesn't exist at MySpace. If myspace.com/ isn't available, then that name is eliminated. It doesn't need to sound pornish, just unique and memorable.
I'm surprised we haven't seen anyone call herself Anita Biggun; or a Vietnamese girl call herself Ima Ho; or some British babe going by Ima Cox-Hucker. Worst porn name of all time has to be Stryc-9. There recently was one up on a model site that was almost as bad, but I can't find it now. A good porn name is easily spelled and remembered; not easily confused with anyone else in porn or anyone else who has more than a couple of hits on Google; doesn't have a city or state as part of it; doesn't end in i, ie, ey, ee, or y; contains a first name and a surname; and uses double letters only when standard usage would suggest they're appropriate. You should want every moron on the planet to be able to spell it and associate it with you - from the couldn't-spell-cat-if-you-spotted-him-the-c-and-the-a guy writing the box copy and press releases to the one feverishly searching Google for another glimpse of you. Although it violates one of the rules above, I don't think I've ever seen Inari Vachs's name misspelled.
But the second I hear it, I know she's not even trying to think outside the porn box so unless I look at a few of her pictures and really love what I see, I'm not going to even bother. In other words, if she has a porny name, I'm turned off before I even see her.
Or anything involving Cum, Cummings (altho I do like Hayley, but the last part is just stupid), and/or other sex related stuff as last names. I also don't like the fact 'bout them coipycat names of celebrities. If It were my choice I would prefer that every female star just used their own given name. ór just their own given front name. ór just a regular made up front name. ór a regular front and last made up artist name. JUST A NORMAL ALIAS! Nothin' more and nothin' less.
One example of a good porn name is Roberta Pedon, who I've never seen but someone in a magazine mentioned her as being hot, with a name that sounds like a real person. Now I wonder if she did watersports.
Yeah, think I agree with that. Don't know what she was thinking there, although didn't she later go by or alternate with the name Cherry Mirage? Which is a bit better. Although, again, the 'cherry' as the first name is too on-the-nose for my tastes personally.
Yeah, she stripped at Caligula XXI and The Men's Club in Dallas under the name Cherry before she did porn. I guess she had a sentimental attachment to it.
Amen. You see a girl you like and you can't search for her cause she just has a first name. And although the Europeans are the worst about this, there are plenty of examples of Americans who do pretty much the same thing.
What they need to do is use their pet's name as their first name and the name of the street they live on as the last name. :) Tobi Pacific actually admitted to doing this. But you know I like her name - it is sort of unique. So maybe that is a good technique.
Three part names would be useful. The middle name is the name of the first boy who came in her butt, on her face, feet, etc.

Tobi Pacific is a name I like, but also an actress I adore. She is awesome!! Oddly, if I used my 2nd dog's name and my first street, my name would be Tiger Woods. lol

While we are on the subject of overplayed names, do we really need more films titled "Don't Tell (so and so) I (did whatever) the (whoever)"?
Star or Starr This is always confusing to me. Does it have 1 r or 2? Two performers that I really like have this name - Rachel Starr and Lela Star. I've seen both of their names spelled both ways. Also there is a slew of performers that use either Star or Starr as their last name. As an aside, and unrelated to this, there was a guy in my neighborhood when I was growing that had the misfortune of having his parents brand him with the name of Harry Dick. He had an older brother that was named Mike and he was teased enough because of his last name. I don't know what his parents were thinking!!

Bobbi Starr also.... Lets not forget the suddenly famous Roxx/Roxxx/Foxxx/Fox/Foxx/etc... But for some newbie to call herself "Friday" ??? Does she want to be seen or not? These talent agencies need to control these girls. If MySpace returns more than 5, don't do it. If you ask 3 people to spell it and 2 get it wrong, don't do it. The name means nothing, unless you can't spell it or google it without getting overloaded with meaningless crap. Friday....
The ambiguous spelling is an issue. In some ways it's good because it separates the girl from the pack. In the days of scanning box covers at the video store that couldn't be bad. But now I'm having trouble trying to figure out how to spell Adrenalynn in a search box. Overused names like Lexi, I'm going to add Adrianna to the list. IAFD lists 27, ten of which don't have last names. And speaking of overused first names without last names. I used to have problems with both Brooklyn and Bailey. IAFD lists 20 Brooklyns, six of which don't have last names. There are also 37 Baileys, eight of which don't have last names. However, I stopped worrying about it because I seem to like every girl named Brooklyn or Bailey. I also stopped worrying about the EuroBabes who don't use last names. It seems like they are all hot anyway so it may be difficult to become a fan of one girl in particular but I can still be a fan of the whole continent. A Brooklyn and a Bailey.
Friday is hardly a newbie. Your point about her name being kinda dumb may still be valid, but with ten years and nearly 200 vids under her belt, it's probably not a good idea to change it now.

I always thought XXXena was a bust (tongue in cheek)
1. She's so cute she can call herself anything she likes 2. I don't see what's so bad about it. It could be a lot worse. 3. Edit - I just looked her up on Free Wons and apparently she's had a boob job. Edited by - randomprecision on 10/8/2010 3:25:14 AM

I had a conversation w/ a group of friends w/ ethnic last name complaining that people always get thier names wrong. The obvious answer to that is "Oh, well Americans are terrible w/ names. Unless you're Smith or Johnson, they can't pronounce or spell names." Then someone brought up, "Well I've seen 'Smith, Smythe, Smythe' and also 'Jonson, Johnson, Johnstone, Johansson, Johanson.'" So it's pretty much impossible to find a name that you can't misspell. Audrey Bitoni's #1 Fan
this is a funny story about a name. When they were evacuating New Orleans there is this guy calling out names of people to board a bus. He read someone's name, "Shithead? Is this a joke? Shithead Jones?" Then a very irate woman came up and huffily told him, "It's pronounced Sh' theed."
celebrity child names (for fucks sake, I don't care if you're supposed to be a "teen", naming yourself "Miley" is CREEPY) boy names one word names Edited by - cm37564 on 10/9/2010 5:46:14 PM
I don't mind a girl picking a punny screen name that's witty at first, but that seems less funny each time you hear it. For comparison, roller derby is an activity in which females perform under stage names. Volunteers maintain a database of names.
