I bid on a Anabolic Balls Deep DVD from someone on eBay and I am supicious that it it may not be legit. I'm wondering if anyone else here who has a copy can tell if theirs has the same characteristics is the one I got:

1. The spindle where they print the title is very dark and hardly readable. It is a black circle around the hole in the center, but it does not extend past the clear plastic part like my other Anabolic titles.

2. Side two is not labeled at all. Normally it says "Side B" on my other Anabolic releases because they include trailers. The back of the disc - in the area outside plastic center says BR-1 stamped in the silver area.

3. The cover is quite fuzzy. I can hardly read some of the writing on the back. When compared to another recently Anabolic title - Up Your Ass #15 - it is obvious. Also the barcode is another place where it doesn't look that crisp. And right below the Barcode is thin red line.

4. No cover insert was included and I think Anabolic always does this.

Does anyone else have a copy on hand they can compare?

Thanks!

It sounds to me like you got a pirated copy. I own about 20-30 Anabolic/Diabolic dvd's, and every single one of them had the insert the folds out telling you the chapters. I hope you did not pay very much. They rest of the things you mentioned sound suspicious as well.
I never buy anything second hand unless I can see it in my hands to inspect it. The only time I'll buy off of Ebay and other sites like that is if I am looking for a cd or dvd that's out of print or no longer available, only then will I take a chance on used stuff.

I am really surprised about this.

I didn't even think there was a big market for pirate adult DVDs of this nature (with cover art and all). This is the first I have heard of it.

Anyone else get ever get a pirate adult DVD that purports to be the real thing (in shrinkwrap with box cover art)?

Oh, I'd imagine there's a market all right.

What there hasn't been that I've seen is much of an ability to produce them on a amateur, or casual basis.

Unlike for making VCD's (which have limited quality or length), there is no relatively cheap DVD burning equipment out there that you can just insert into a computer bay.

So people selling the stuff would have to make a significant equipment investment and probably need to do so in enough volume that they'd get noticed and rooted out.

Concern about this is talked about in homebuilding computer forums and circles as being a main reason why affordable DVD burners have been so slow in coming.

Of course Hollywood's other line of defense is macrovision copy protection. But geeks have devised ways around that, natch.

Actually DVD burners have fallen to around $500. It doesn't take too many $15 sales on eBay to get a return on investment. I suspect you will see a lot more of them in the near future.

Really? Wow.

Last I looked it was like more than 10 times that much.

Just check CDW, at least 30 to choose from for under $1,000.

I found more things wrong with the bogus Balls Deep DVD I got. There's no previews on Side B -- even though the box and main menu talk about them.

The seller replied to my e-mail and said that his distributor did indeed slip him a few "quasi bootlegs." I'm not sure if this was discovered before or after he shipped it to me.

So, I guess all of us better watch out and check our discs carefully. The appearance of this one wasn't as good as a regular Anabolic release, but it wasn't terrible. A casual buyer might never have realized it was bogus.

I'm sure the people at Anabolic would be greatful for
a heads up on this suspect DVD. I'd imagine they'd
swap ya for a bonified copy. Look for thier address
on the box or DVD jewel case inserts.

The seller is someone who sells a large number of DVDs on eBay regularly. In fact, I've purchased a few discs from him before and he handled a problem before without any problems.

He says that he already contacted Anabolic and they were aware of the situation although I don't know if that is true or not. The seller didn't apologize, but he said he understood and agreed to take care of the problem. However, he said he was going out of town for a couple of weeks and will not be back until November 11th.

Steph, you are correct that eBay does have a policy against pirated video, dvd, software etc.

I'm taking a wait and see approach because I am not sure if the seller really knew it was a bootleg or not. I purchased another disc from him at the same time -- also an Anabolic title and it was legit -- although slightly scuffed up (despite the shrinkwrap). It is possible that he was duped by whoever he got these from. On the other hand, he may have known exactly what he was doing.

I think I will contact Anabolic to see if they are aware of the situation. If the seller is telling the truth, then no harm done, they already know. If the seller is not telling the truth, then I will find out.

snowman872-

Recently a large quantity of pirated Anabolic DVDs entered the marketplace. Anabolic is aware of the situation and their attorneys are investigating the source. If you contact Anabolic at (310) 827-9015 they will replace your DVD with a legitimate one.

Do you feel comfortable sharing his/her Ebay seller name with us? I know there are plenty of folks here in the forum that buy from Ebay.

The seller is FlyingSquid.

Hopefully, this was an isolated incident. In the past he has offered some good deals.
