I was curious if anyone here lives near an ex-porn star.

As luck would have it(good or bad, depending on how you look at it), Barbara Dare lives about a block from me, and Whenever I see her I want to say hello, but I can work up the nerve to do so, because if she no longer wants anything to do with the industry she may not feel comfortable knowing that there is some guy who knows who she is and where she lives.

So I was wondering if most retired adult film stars try to disassociate themselves from the business or do the majority of them accept that people may know them, and are receptive to being reconized.

Any input on this would be appreciated.

Well BDF, speaking as a "retired" adult performer, I personally have no problem with someone politely introducing themselves and saying that they are/were a "fan".

I'm sure someone as popular as Barbara is likely to expect such behavior, and is well aware that it kind of 'comes with the territory' when you step in front of the cameras. Of course I also understand wanting to have a private (social) life, but in the right instance and with the proper intent I would hope no celebrity, porn or mainstream, would object to meeting one of their fans.

So my suggestion to you is .. Don't go knockin' on her door! lol But if you see her at a local store or around town, simply (and again politely) introduce yourself. What's the worst that could happen?

Be polite. Be discrete.

So, no cornering her.
No talking too loudly where others may hear.
No pressure and go away if asked.
Don't come knockin'.

This thread is kinda creepy.

How would you know it was her, if she was using her real name?

Unless, Barbara Dare is her real name, which would be a surprise to me.

Perhaps BDF recognized Ms./Mrs. Dare by her appearance? He does call himself Barbara_Dare_Fan! Perhaps he's seen a few of her videos?! Hey, I know if I saw Nina Hartley or Ron Jeremy walking down my street I wouldn't have to ask if "they" were really "them"!

As for real names, I'm sure no celebrity expects a fan approach them using their real name .. If they did, then that would be creepy !

What's so creepy about it? Sounds to me like BDF is trying to take her feelings into consideration. I have a childhood friend who did a few movies in her early 20's. I've never mentioned it, but I've talked to people who have discussed it with her. I figure there are a lot of girls who did porn who just want to move on with their lives and not be reminded of it, especially once they have families and kids and stuff. Probably best to leave it alone, but maybe you could just say hi without mentioning that you recognize her, and see how she responds to that. Chicks usually have a way of letting you know whether you should piss off or not.

Personally, I probably wouldn't approach her as a fan. If anything, I'd say Hi if I saw her outside and introduce myself as her neighbor. If she wasn't very talkative, I probably wouldn't bring up the fact that you're a fan. However, she'd probably figure it out if she caught me leering at her all the time.

Good call, Twizted! Though I think she might get tired/suspicious of me coming over everyday to "borrow a cup of sugar." (Honestly, Shane, there is no innuendo intended there...Honestly!)

Well Wolf, I may definitely start to wonder what the heck you needed so much sugar for?!! You may want to mix-up the ingredients every so often.

I, personally, would much rather not have fans knowing exactly where I live; although, a few times, I've had a fan approach me at the local grocery store or Blockbuster. What am I supposed to say? .. "No, sorry I'm not her!" If I found-out someone on my block recognized me, I would hope that they would respect my privacy. If not, I'd just have to smack 'em upside their head with my big double-headed dildo!!

Shane, I'd "borrow" any "ingredients" you were willing to "loan out." hehe
(Back on topic...didn't mean to derail the thread)...Yeah, it's all about respect, and that's a two-way street. People in the public eye realize they have to sacrifice a part of their privacy, but at the same time fans have to realize they are real people and not necessarily the same people they see on screen. And there's the fact that everyone's different, and I would even venture to say that an "ex-star" (porn or otherwise) is perhaps different than a "current-star" (for lack of a better term) in that perhaps an "ex-star" might be less willing or used to such attention from fans. But, again, respect is the key.
Peace.

BDF,

Twisted6 is right. Do not let her know you are a fan. She will immediately think you are a stalker. Also, act like Vin Diesel. Jewish chicks dig that.

Funny.

Thanks everyone for the input.

I first saw her a couple of years ago in the local post office, and my jaw dropped. Unfortunately, I couldn't stick around to think about asking her after she got off line because I had to get to work. I would have a hard time working up the courage to say anything anyway.

The next time I saw her was at a K-Mart, driving by in her Honda, and then regularly in the mornings on the way to work, she would usually be sitting with a guy(who may be her boyfriend or husband). She has a tattoo around her ankle that is not apparent in any pictures of her I could find, so I figured that if that was not her then she definitely had a twin sister.

The weird thing was that every time I saw her and tried to study her features, it would appear that she was looking right a me. As it turns out she right across the hall from the only person I know(beside my immediate neighbors) in the area.(I would of had a better chance of getting struck by lightning while going to cash my million dollar lottery ticket).

The coincidence is that she was my favorite adult star, and I still have her signed poster and picture we took when I saw her over a decade ago dancing at Naked City in Queens, New York.(Where she told me that I was very handsome). :-)

She told me then that she was going to restart her fan club and I waited in anticipation, but she vanished from the soon soon afterwards. :-(

Anyway, perhaps I can muster up a smile the next time I see her alone. :-)

Oh, and as far as how I know it's her. On a visit to my friend's apartment, I saw Barbara Dare's real name on her intercom and mailbox.(Something I didn't initially think to check).

Barbara Dare - one of the best. I wonder what she looks like now. If you do end up talking to her, and you have long conversations about her porn past, ask if she knows what happened to April West. They were lovers at one time, so maybe she can tell April's many fans how she is doing.

Boy would I love to have "long conversations" with her. I had a crush on her long before I ever saw any of her movies.

She has gain a little weight, but she is still beautiful. She still has that same hair style.

BDF,
BD is my all time fave...I'd mjust say hi very casually and try and start a conversation..but do it in a public place that is NOT small like a corner or section of the post office...I would think if she talked to you she might know what you are up to...good luck and let usknow how it goes..tell her we miss her!

Might wanna tell her the '80s are over, then. :)

Last I read, she worked as a stripper up until recently, almost to her 40s. The one recent picture I saw was mighty impressive. She was in great shape, albeit thin.

Where did you read that she was a stripper until recently?

From what I know she retired about a decade ago.

I read an article on Luke Ford about Racism in porn and Ford disclosed that there are numerous performers who are quite racist. Two he mentioned were Barbara Dare and Jordan Lee. Maybe others have come across this information.

Sorry but Luke Ford seems hostile to the very industry he promotes: porn. It's too bad that Fords pathetic ambigous attitude toward pornography is felt by many men who are fans or even performers. Luke Ford is not a great source for any rumor. He has such a mixed up attitude toward porn, who knows what to believe by him.

Barbara Dare's refusal to work with blacks(outside of the light skinned Billy Dee) was supposed to be well documented, but I didn't pick up on any bias when I met her at Naked City about a decade ago. In fact when it was my turn to take a picture with her, she said "Your very handsome".

When your biggest crush says that, you tend to disregard any negative thing she said or was rumored to say. :-) Nevertheless, to put the preceding in perspective, I'm black.

I don't remember that there were a large amount of black male performers at the time, but that was before I was 18.

She never did anal either (on screen). Do remember Jamie Gillis getting a thumb in that tight goodness in a 3 or 4 way scene in SEX ASYLUM I think...she seemed to dig it.

They rarely respond to their adoring public via mail. She probably never saw it anyway, because the fan clubs from what I can tell are just ronts run by someone else to make money off of the adult film star's name.

I saw Barbara the other day, at the corner grocery store, but still didn't have an opportunity to say hello.(She had a cell phone plastered to her ear the whole time). :-(

One of the greatest lithe, nubile bodies in the history of erotica.
She's a cutie, too.

I was fortunate to have had her lay on top of me and grind during an appearance she had as a featured dancer back in the late 1980s. She was gorgeous and pretty down to earth as I recall. Man she had a tight little body. Ahh memories...

Just listened to this 2 years later. It was nice to hear her bring up her past comments about refusing to work with black men (except half black Billy Dee) and how she was ignorant, regrets them and apologizes. Go figure that here favorite film is Behind the Green Door and Johnny Keys fucking Marilyn Chambers turns her on the most! True the quality of black talent back then was thin, but man if only she had shot with Sean Michaels or Ray Victory! For me those two were some of the best of the 80s and early 90s.
