The mainstream director/cinematographer Barry Sonnenfeld (Men in Black etc.) apparently shot some porn movies before he started working with the Coen brothers in the mid 80's. Neil Patrick Harris said on Howard Stern yesterday that Sonnenfeld has some great stories about his porn involvement, including one that involved shooting a DP scene from underneath a glass coffee table with some girl who was recruited from a nearby restaurant when the booked actress flaked. Sonnenfeld is briefly mentioned in this 2008 ADT thread; there's no search results for his name on iafd.com; Googling confirms his porn past but without any real details. Does anyone have any knowledge of the titles, availability, etc. of his porn, and/or the name(s) he may have worked under, or anything else?

Harry, that bit about shooting from underneath a glass coffee table might be enough info for someone to nail this particular movie.
I recently watched a Chuck Vincent flick called VOYEUR from 1985 that actually has the lead character viewing sex action from under the coffee table (POV shots occur) but I'm pretty sure he does not witness a DP.
Maybe someone else may have seen something even closer to matching your description.

If I'm remembering right there is a scene shot under a glass coffe table in Joe Davian's Girls USA from 1980 but I can't recall if it was a DP. Guys cums on the glass. DPs are pretty rare in the classic era. Davian's films aren't that well shot though I'd be surprised if someone of Sonnefeld's talent for him. He must have worked for some of the better directors I would suspect.

It's not a real secret about his adult work but he used to be Richard Mailer's cameraman in the late 70s early 80s. So any of Mailer's films from that period were probably shot by Sonnenfeld. Another cameraman for Mailer around the same period was Robert Chappell. One might be a little surprised at the number of Oscar winners who started out in adult films as cinematographers or editors. It was a great school since you had to work fast and cheap.
