Just wondering what people here think is the dividing line seperating a actress from being considered BBW instead of just curvy, plump, voluptous, etc. Example: don't think most people would consider Gianna a BBW. Is it the size of waist, hops, thigjhs, belly? Instead of butt and/or breasts?
I don't know. The terms seem to be used interchangeably in all types of porn and I've found them all completely useless unless I'm looking for really big women.
i thought gianna was considered "voluptuous" and that BBW meant the person had to be clinically obese as criteria- just my impression from those labelled as "bbw's". i have never heard anyone refer to her as BBW. i would think more of the girls in the "waist watchers" line from zero tolerance are BBW.
Don't count on porn to offer any clues... we're talking about an industry where 25 y/o's are marketed as teens and 26 y/o's as MILFs. BBW always struck me as more of a euphemism, an abbreviation for personal ads that's code for "I'm so overweight that you really need to be into that sort of thing for this to work". 'Voluptuous' on the other hand can be applied to curvy gals like the aforementioned Gianna w/ large breasts, hips and thighs but who you really couldn't accuse of 'letting themselves go'. A woman would still have to have something resembling an hourglass figure-wise for me to call her voluptuous (and not bbw).

Isn't that completely obsolete? Do we really have to label anyone and anything, huh?
Well, the word "obsolete" would imply that these terms were useful at some point but aren't anymore. For porn fiends in the digital age, I would say that labels and categories are even more useful and necessary now; with such a plethora of porn at our fingertips, those of us with special interests, fetishes, body-type preferences, etc are spoiled rotten ...but only if there are labels to help us find what we need.
It's not about a label as an attempt to insult people or anything. It's just that if you don't categorize things in a business like porn, people can't find what they're looking for. If I'm looking for BBWs, how else am I going to find them? If I'm looking for MILFs, where do I look if there are no "labels"? Even with the labels it's hard to find exactly what you're looking for.
In porn, it seems that voluptuous is mostly used to refer to a woman with large breasts, even if her lower body is average-size. But generally if a woman has natural large boobs, she'll have a little "extra padding" all over. And BBW is used to refer to a woman who is thick/chunky/plump/fat in the belly, hips, thighs, etc. BBW is overused (similar to how MILF is overused) almost to the point of having no real meaning in porn, other than "she's not skinny".
There's a blurred line. I'd say voluptuous women are more hour-glassed shaped. I'd say voluptuous women have large, curvy breasts, buttocks, thighs with a more narrow waist and average size calves and arms. BBW tend to have wide waists (no hour glass figure) with possible cankles and larger arms.
I think it all depends on how she carries the weight. Also, How good does the performer look in general. Brandy Taylore is kind of a example of what i'm talking about. She isn't a big as most of the women considered BBWs but she's thicker than the average performer. Brandy carries her weight nicely and it looks good on her. It might not look as good on a different person. So I think the line is whatever said plus size pornstar can get away with.
However, that makes having different categories pointless. The "BBW" category makes no sense if there's no firm definition of just what constitutes a BBW. It's like saying if a girl who has implants can pass for having naturals with most people, she should be listed as natural. Some people wouldn't mind but purists would be pissed because that makes it harder to shop for what you want. There are different types of big girls so there are different categories for them and it should matter.
If you don't break the rules, you'll never have any fun! 717 Posts 10/06

The term is pretty moveable depending on who you are talking to. In the world of mainstream porn, I'm most definately a BBW and on the upper end of acceptability. But in the 'everyday" BBW community, I am considered almost too small to be a part of that group. But labels don't bother me..I'm just a horny old lady!
I didn't say that it shouldn't. What i trying to get across was that it mostly about perception. Stars like Brandy Taylore,Lisa Sparxxx or Pinky could be in a "big girl" movie. But there are also attractive enough to work in non niche titles. On the flip side of those ladies, take Samantha 38G, How many "regular" titles has she been in?
I used to read big-tit magazines and they featured women who often carrier more weight (everywhere) than models normally did. The term I used to see was "height-weight proportional." I took that to mean that even though you have some extra pounds, you still have a figure: rounded hips, something of a waist, etc. To my mind, a voluptuous woman may be larger all over, but she's still shapely. Example would be the redhead office manager (Joan Holloway) on the tv show MAD MEN. She's got big boobs and big hips and thighs, but she's got an hourglass figure. A BBW has less of the figure, less (or no) waist, a larger stomach, etc.
This topic always leaves me baffled since ive seen some porn dvd covers claim to have fatties in the film or bbws when the models clearly have a flat tummy! All that maybe slightly different than the other mainstream porn models is wider hips and a tummy that wobbles. http://bbwchardonnay.blogspot.com
I'm loving Voluptous Girls at the moment, like Gianna, Katie Kox, Sierra Skye etc and no way would consider any of them BBWs BBW are when the rolls get excessive and bits start hanging over other bits. Like the say, different strokes for differnt folks and BBW strokes are not for me
Chubby, BBW, Voluptous, Thick...for a Dutch guy it's hard to understand how this all works ;-) For me I mostly like girls with some extra meat meaning big tits and big ass. Yeah a girl like Sierra Skye comes to mind no doubt.
I think it depends on the distribution of the lady's fat rather than the total amount of fat she has. When most of the lady's fat is in her tits, ass, and hips. Then she is voluptuous. But if her waist is equal to or bigger than her hips are. Then BBW is the right name for her. Edited by - Dan on 11/7/2009 1:46:48 PM
