Bella Thorne's directorial debut

Set to be released on pornhub next month will star Abella Danger and small hands. It's part of pornhub's young visionary series.

There have been jokes about how long it will take Bella Thorne to resort to porn for years now. Mean-spirited jokes, sure, but they've been floating around out there all the same.

I never thought she'd actually do it, though. Maybe we're approaching another crossover point as we did in the '70s? Maybe porn is finally scratching the surface of the mainstream again?

I doubt it'd ever happen but I'd love to see her in a scene. Maybe Woodman could give her an interview 🤣

The Visionaries Director's Series has been a fun series so far. Her & Him is the third entry in the series. The previous entries are Brooke Candy's I Love You and Young M.A's The Gift.

I like the different feel that people from outside the industry bring the short films in the series.

I can understand most people wanting to see Bella do porn but is there one person who is really interested in seeing a 21 years old ex-child star attempt at pornography? Curious maybe but actual desire to see two professional porn performers being directed by someone who has never worked in the porn industry and someone who for all intent and purposes should definitely avoid adding any new scandal to her list of existing ones.

Can you imagine how many doors have now been permanently closed to Bella just because she chose to direct a porn video? Who is her manager because he/she needs to be fired or maybe they quit and she is self-representing.

Ehh, I'm not sure I agree with that assessment. All porn directors start from nothing. I should know... I guarantee that every director you love knew next to nothing about what they were doing when they picked up a camera for the first time. They just had ideas and believed they could make them real. Anyway, we don't know that Bella isn't a massive fan of porn. Maybe she has been interested in doing something like this for a long time. I reserve judgment of her abilities until I have a chance to see the final product.

As for her career, well, it's true that her decision to do this will have an effect on her opportunities, but if she felt a genuine creative impulse to do this (i.e. it's not just for publicity), then she should not have backed off from the idea just for career reasons. Creative people don't work that way.

I say all of this with the caveat that I know virtually nothing about Bella Thorne, apart from the vaguest awareness of who she is and what she looks like, so I may be attributing more artistry or intelligence to her than the reality reflects. I don't know. The point is that I'm reserving judgment until I see what she's done, and I don't think career planning is a valid reason to refrain from doing anything if you're really passionate about it.

Porn going mainstream-in today's environment-is the beginning of the end. Wealthy companies will lobby US legislators who will actually be receptive, and they'll gain an unfair edge through regulation and 1001 stupid new laws. Fuck that.

That said I'm all for stupid taboos and backward sexual mores going away. If porn winds up like music, that's great. There's no legislation preventing anyone from making any kind of music where they want and when they want. And you can do it in your bedroom and release it to the world with a few mouse clicks. If porn going "mainstream" results in a market similar to music, then fine. There will be big players, niche artists, amateurs, the fine art crowd and everything in between. That's a nice picture.

Not surprised at all, she's always had a porny vibe. She apparently dated a woman as well, so I wanna see her in front of the camera in a G/G scene.

Let's say for argument sake that you are correct and that every current porn director started from nothing. How many of them would we have bothered to talk about if PH had announced them doing their first video for them? Would we give a rats ass about their first video like we seem to be for Bella?

Let's be honest with ourselves. The only reason why there is a thread about this is because Bella is a celebrity and I think many believe that this may mean that she will do porn because if this is her first and only foray into porn than we won't be talking about her six months from now.

Does anyone remember when Kanye West name being attached to porn? Is anyone still talking about it?

I hardly think this is a sign that porn is going mainstream. We are simply, as a society, finally acknowledging how pervasive it has become.

Not to be indelicate, but a washed-up former actress (Maitland Ward) and an ex-Disney star who always had a "porn vibe" about her (Bella Thorne), plus a few isolated shoutouts to the Lansky sites in talk shows and print media, is no more a sign that porn is going "mainstream" than the glitzy porn premieres of the '70s were. Remember, back then they reveled in the porn appearance of "the Ivory soap girl" (Marilyn Chambers), but it amounted to nothing in the end.

^ No, you're absolutely right that this is only getting attention because of Bella Thorne's name, but then again, how is that any different from the multitude of celebrity sex videos that have come out over the years?

From my perspective, the only difference here is that Bella has chosen to partner with a major porn outlet (and whether we like it or not, Pornhub has become just that) with an "artsy", and implicitly "more legitimate", style of production.

Directing a porn movie isn't so different from directing a mainstream production as to be two separate things, and, more to the point, long time actors jump behind the director's chair all the time (both in porn and in mainstream acting), so I don't really know why the fact that she hasn't directed anything means much of anything in regards to the possible quality of this movie. It could be good, it could be bad, but the fact that she's a former child star doesn't mean anything in either direction on that.

Why would she do this? I'm utterly unfamiliar with her, but if you have any sort of mainstream credibility why would you put that at risk?

Because her acting career is mostly indie movies that won't care that she did this, and this is something that people will forget about in a few weeks anyway. It's probably no more complicated than she thought it would be cool, so she did it. It's not like she'll never get any acting gigs again because of it.

This is her brand. She's made a name for herself as being 'porn-adjacent'. She has a music video for a single of hers called "Pussy Mine (Official Sex Tape)". Here's the chorus:

Ooh, I love the way she say, "That pussy mine" (pussy mine)
Ooh, I work that pussy out like nine to five (nine to five)
Ooh, can't get that pussy off of my mind (of my mind)
Ooh, hit it from the front, then I hit that pussy from behind

She had nudes get leaked (who hasn't these days), but unlike most, she responded by posting more nudes online.

This is not at all out of step for her.

Are we actually certain it's going to be a porn film? I know it's on Pornhub and features adult performers, but I'm not sure I've read anywhere that it's actually going to have any fucking in it.

I am relatively certain it will be since Her & Him is being released under Pornhub's Visionaries Director's Club imprint. The imprint was created to bring hardcore movies made by non-adult industry members to the public so something different would be on the market.

The first entry was The Gift, which was written and directed by rapper Young M.A

The second entry was I Love You, which was written and directed by Brooke Candy, a rapper, with art direction by Claire Barrow, an artist, and designer.

Both of these were hardcore. The Gift was an all-girl movie and I Love You was all-girl, all-male, and transgender.

I highly doubt they would change the imprint for the third one.

To answer the question of why would anyone want to see it? I do. I don't see why a child star can't direct an adult movie. She has already directed several music videos and being on television shows as long as she has means she knows the ins and outs of directing.

Many, many, many people have cut their teeth directing adult movies before going on to mainstream directing success.

You are correct that her current selection of on screen appearances tend to be from studios that are further away from the more mainstream ones but I think this as less to do with her choosing those studios and more because the others didn't want their name associated with her and while some of these less known studios may be okay with her foray in the porn industry. Many won't want the bad publicity this would generate. We are talking about an actress that had at least 3 mainstream movies and one TV show last year.

This may be great publicity for PH but I see nothing good for Bella. At least nothing good if she wants to ever work for thee big studios.

What bad publicity? No one cares. You're not gonna see hit pieces from media outlets because some random independent movie cast her in a role. Chloe Sevigny has been acting for years after she actually performed a sex act on camera for Brown Bunny, and you don't see any blowback from that. And this is only directing a short movie, and not actually performing in one. I think you're assigning way more relevance to this whole thing than anyone else will.

^ I think you're ignoring the double standards of the "civilian" film industry. Nudity and unsimulated sex acts in the mainstream are considered to be an artistic expression by the industry and the media but those same things in the porn industry are looked down upon as being salacious and less than respectable by the mainstream and the media.

I don't think this will ruin Bella's prospects with the whole mainstream or indie film world but Disney will think long and hard before casting her in an adult role and I have the sneaking suspicion this may have been a conscious choice to rebel against her former employer.

She more than likely wasn't working with Disney any time soon before any of this became public anyway. Look at what killbill posted earlier, she's been trying to shed any "squeaky clean child star" image she had for a while.

^ What makes you think I didn't read? That's precisely my point. I was alluding to a next step of moving away from Disney's virtue signalling.

Chloe Sevigny hasn't played any lead roles. Her career definetly took a dive after Brown bunny. Hollywood cares about money and nothing else, and if they think that nobody wants to watch Bella Thorn because of this they won't hire her. There's way to many other actresses to go with then her.
This is a career defining moment for her, and i do believe she took her young rebelious ways too far.

This is probably just the start, she might direct a few more, attend some events, make cameos in some movies, leak a sex tape, and than finally cross over.

I'm interested to see this, not because the director is a mainstream name but because the line of films is centered around dynamic porn ideas. Yes, pornhub is super problematic. But, if tearing the industry down results in building it back with a different approach then I guess I'm on board (though with a healthy dose of side eye...).

^Fully agreed. The industry has been far too slow to accept and adapt to the new trends in viewing behavior.
