I can only speak for BushDVD: No complaints there, fast shipping (same day as they get the returned movies) and great customer service - and reports of XRent have been the same in both of these regards. Both of these are in Southern CA - 1 or 2 day shipping is the norm if you are too. Probably 3 days if you are in Oregon or WA.

We really had a big thread - I'm sure others will post eventually - there are others like WantedList and SugarDVD.

Xrent's selection and service are okay, but I'm interested in a lot of Wantedlist's more obscure titles.

Any comments on WantedList's service and turnaround time?

BTW, I had a horrible experience last fall with Adult DVD Empire, a month's subscription in which hardly anything went right. Must have been a temporary glitch, but I had to bail. On the other hand, I definitely like their screenshots.

Because of the media mail there were times that it took up to 7 or 8 days to get to me in the midwest from California. I use Bush now and I usually get their shipments in 3 days. I have the 4 DVD plan and probably get a minimum of 20 DVD's per month.

It's just so damn frustrating when the lesser-rated company is the only one to offer those hard-to-find items I want to scope out.

Your company offers a lot of the more obscure items like those from Global Media (redistributing great old Heather Hunter flicks on DVD), e.g., that can't be found for rent elsewhere.

I am inclined to give you a chance, but am keeping Steed's warning in mind.

I've always been a little leary of the trusting the shipper (typically the Post Office) and trusting that returns actually get properly credited.
What are the failsafes to protect me?
After all, the rental company will have my credit card info., and I'm sure won't hesitate to charge me for items they don't receive or don't properly credit when they receive them.

I'm thinking that spending 90-cents on a "proof-of-mailing" from the Post Office might be worth it when sending returns. After all, once I mail the items using the rental company's designated system, it should no longer be my problem.

Any experiences here?

I signed up for www.boomer-x.com on 5/5/2006 for a 10 day free trial. I finished the sign up and populated my wish list by 10am. I got a email on 5/8/2006 with a time stamp of 7:06pm saying they shipped my movies. The movies arrived on 5/12/2006. They were in working order. I brought the DVDs to the post office early on 5/13/2006. I cancelled my membership on 5/14/2006. They haven't sent me a email to acknowledge my returns yet, I hope to get a email soon.

Overall this site seems a bit slow to me, but at least they appear legit.

It's understandable not having the latest Old Hag Hoochie or Pull My Granny Panties Down but these are some primo studios they are missing (although quite new.)

Even though I'm probably a money-loser, they've never slowed me down. Bush has only raised their rates once in 40 months, and that was after the last postal rate increase. They've been responsive to the occasional lost or damaged disc, and have been receptive to new title requests. About the only thing I have noticed is that some titles are on Short or Long Wait for an eternity, but my queue has always been pretty lengthy.

Looking at my history, I've rented 800 titles from them, at an average cost of $1.11 per disc.

I too am a relatively satisfied user of bushdvd. In the past I have also used X-Rent. The main reason I don't primarily use X-Rent is the per-title cost is higher if you don't have a membership. However if you just want a few specific titles and don't want to commit for a month, X-Rent is a great choice.

Overall I am satisfied with BushDVD but lately they do seem to be throttling my rentals. When I first started with the service they would typically receive my movies in 1.5 business days and I would have a pretty quick turnaround. However after about 6 months it seems as if BushDVD is throttling the rentals. Even though I am in SoCal it seems to take BushDVD about 2-3 business days to "receive" my rentals, and another 1-2 days to ship them.

Here is a recent example.

This Saturday morning I dropped off two packages at the post office. One was for Blockbuster online and the other was for BushDVD.

On Monday Blockbuster had already received my rental and had shipped the next one. I received that next rental today (Tuesday).

However today (the same Tuesday), BushDVD has yet to acknowledge my return rental. Best case scenario it will be "received" tomorrow (Wednesday) and I will get the next rental Thursday or Friday.

Now this is a drastic difference for two rental companies that are based in California.

To recap:

Blockbuster:

Saturday (mail)
Monday (received)
Tuesday (new rental)

BushDVD:

Saturday (mail)
Monday (not received)
Tuesday (not received)
Wednesday (hopefully will finally be received?)

Thursday or Friday (new rental)

This is the only issue I have with BushDVD. Other than that their service is great. They are relatively quick with responding to emails (24-48 hours) and in the case of missing DVDs they will mail out your next rentals right away. In over a year of DVD rentals with Bush I have probably had about 4 missing packages and Bush was quick with handling all of the cases (all of them do eventually turn up, at least in my experience).

The website is also pretty good with some decent search features.

Overall I give BushDVD a solid B, even though they throttle a bit I still get movies faster than I would if I went through an east coast company.

Shipping is not included in monthly fee. Nowhere do they tell you this until you join and paying a couple of buck every time you rent is a pain. I just re-read their site FAQ and still don’t see if this is the case, but they do say they include a free return postage envelope. I am not joining again to find out if they have fixed their shipping policy.

I started my free 2 disc x 10 day trial on 5/30/06. Wantedlist shipped me 2 movies on 5/30. I received 2 movies on 6/1. I returned 2 movies on 6/1. Wantedlist acknowledged receipt of 2 movies on 6/5. Wantedlist shipped me 2 movies on 6/5. I received 2 movies on 6/7. I returned 2 movies on 6/8. I cancelled my membership on 6/8. Wantedlist acknowledged receipt of 2 movies on 6/13. End of trial.

Total Movies = 4.

This trial went pretty smoothly and I have no major complaints.

Please post your username so I can have a look at your history. 9-14 days turnaround time simply should not happen if you've got a decent number of movies in your queue. I'll be the first to admit if it was something on our end.

sugardvd was by far the best in terms of shipping and customer service, adultdvdempire has a great selection, but the shipping times are somewhat slow.
wantedlist was the worst of any of the services used, the shipping was rather slow, slow enough that the monthly rental plan only worked out to be a couple movies per month. and a high percentage of the discs i recevied, were worn/damaged to the point they were not playable, it took three attempts to canel my account and there website is often non-functinal
