In the Dominican Republic where I have family living right now, on the census they don't ask you to put down "Hispanic" or "Latino" as a race. You're either white, black, or mulatto. Some people also put Indio. Now I have a question for the guy who says because someone is Dominican that doesn't mean they can be Black. If I put Black as my race on the Dominican census and I move to the U.S. does that mean I'm no longer Black? I'm asking this as a Latino who is Black. [Link]

So she's almost certainly has some 'Black' heritage but given their history she is unlikely to be comfortable being identified as black. To many Dominicans, to be black is to be Haitian. Since I've been in the biz, I've come across quite a few girls who consider themselves (or claim to be) "latin", "hispanic", "multiracial", "egyptian" etc - though I and many other African Americans may say/know otherwise. Though I think it's pathetic for one to do so, I can understand it. Unfortunately in many agents, directors, and studio owner's mindsets (and amazingly so in this day in age being that the leader of our COUNTRY is essentially a "black man") the girl's "value" and "bookability" goes up the less "black / African American" she is perceived to be. I recently had a conversation with an American Eurasian woman in the business who stated that she found it interesting that when she is booked to perform with a white man it's NOT always considered an IR scene, but with a black man, it is. I've also heard many "white" girls say that they're afraid their "bookability" factor will go down if they do IR - well I have to disagree because the last time I checked, Jenna Haze (who didn't do IR before but does now) is hosting the AVN's so she's gotta be doing pretty well "booking" wise :) I personally have been blatently told by 3 well known adult agencies (I should name the names but I won't) that they weren't able to work with me because they're having trouble booking "black girls". One of the most successful agencies in the valley actually doesn't seem to have 1 black woman at all - interesting... I personally don't buy the "black girls are hard to book" / "there isn't an ethnic market" story - considering how well my website does, there's definitely a demand - I think the real issue lies within "good 'ole boys" club mentality - eventually (sooner than later) it will change due to market demand and proven revenue generated by the ethnic market. I think another factor to the lack of people who "claim" African American/Black in the industry is due to the fact that within the African American culture, women are not overly encouraged to explore their sexuality - it's not seen as "proper" AND in general the women who are open sexually are automatically stereotyped as "ghetto" or it's assumed that they're a part of the "pimp - ho" mentality which unfortunately is continually depicted in "black" porn which ironically is often directed, produced and distributed by non-African Americans. In general, there aren't many black women in the industry and the reason why, is because we simply aren't given the same opportunities to be in the "pretty high end porn" as our counterparts of other ethinicities. A few "pretty" black girls start, but when they see what I'm witnessing - they quickly give up - I'm personally not a quitter (plus I could actually care less being that I have the capability of producing my own content - starting this year so look out for it), but I can understand why many women do throw in the towel.
