I live in the UK. I am always hearing about seizures and people getting busted for ordering porn from online.

Anybody in the UK have a 100% success rate in ordering porn from online and if so, what site did you use?

So many bullshit legal judgements in the UK. Not that ANY of it makes any difference, it's just a pain in the ass!

Joel, I think the chances of "getting busted" are much lower than you might think from what you've heard. Remember that you only tend to hear about the times things go wrong on these forums, not the thousands of times that everything is fine. I've been ordering porn online from Europe and the USA for 5 years, and never had a single problem. Probably most others here are the same. Companies like EroDVD, Orgazmik are very good at making their packages look anonymous. Check the International Shopping info thread for recommendations.

Talking of Soho, I shudder at the thought of how much I used to pay for DVDs there before I started buying online. Quite usual to pay 40-50 GBP per film in the unlicensed shops (before R18s really started appearing). It makes me depressed to sell some of my older films now, usually for 5 quid or so, when the price sticker on the front says 45... Ouch!

fuck 'em. www.erodvd.nl. They send without the hard cases - 100% success (so far!). Also, unless you're mad keen for the latest releases, you can pick up decent back issues from Red Light, Zero Tol and others for 8-12EUR. By the time you've done the currency conv, that's about 5 quid. Can't argue with that (or I didn't on the last 6 backrels, I ordered) Massive selection too.

I'm not associated with them, just passing on some good info I got when i pondered the same question

I'm thinking of buying from EroDVD.nl to be sent to the U.K. So how safe with regard to customs would it be to order some "666" dvds or other "obscene" stuff from them

Tinaka, I don't think it's a good idea to order via regular mail from EroDVD if you're looking for 666 or anything really beyond the BBFC guidelines. Very likely some customs dude will end up enjoying your goodies, instead of you! You might be lucky and get the package through without it being checked, but if it is opened by customs I would imagine 666 discs are very likely to be seized.

Joel - Timotei is correct, I don''t think it likely you will get busted, as in arrested or anything. Goods can sometimes be seized, sometimes be lost in the post, and yes, sometimes even stolen.

I can't offer you a 100% foolproof way to order, but I have found most of the well-recommended suppliers mentioned by the users of this forum have achieved these compliments by doing a decent job, so why not check out the numerous recommendations in the International Shopping guide thread and try placing a low-value order as a test?

My tips would definitely be stick to well known suppliers and to never order more than you can afford to lose. That might sound a little negative, and in truth my experience suggests ordering from abroad is a million times more reliable than buying from the kind of stores Lou and Timotei mention. Most of us who bought porn before the more recent "liberalisation" (I use the word advisedly) will be all too familiar with the good old British porno rip off!

We (and some other companies too) ship everything for our UK customers from within the UK, so any customs problems are for us. And if a shipment gets lost we replace it for free. But I would still advice to always start out with a small order ( 1 or 2 titles) from any company you have never ordered from before, to check out the service, speed, et cetera.

I too cannot imagine anyone "getting busted" for purchasing mainstream porn. I'd be more worried about the ambarrassment of having Royal Mail misdelivering it to a neighbour who might accidentally open it. Having said that, stuff I've ordered from the US has always been carefully delivered to me by RM, who almost seem to send the sex stuff out in its own van. I'm almost never in when they deliver so they leave a card and I go to the depot. They know me at the depot I think. Maybe I should be embarrassed by that!

So far, UK customs have opened one packet addressed to me, and resealed it - so it arrived no problemo. I guess my taste is insufficiently interesting to them. ;-)

LOL ^

Typically how long does standard mail from the US take to reach the UK? Obviously it varies, but surely I can get a better estimate that 3 - 10 days... I really DON'T want to go to the depot!

Joel, we can't give you a guarantee - remember the Royal Mail is involved!

Standard mail can actually take longer than 10 days to reach the UK from the US. Better to choose Global Priority for a speedy solution, uninsured of course, or a courier, though it is likely Fed Ex or DHL will invoice you for customs charges if you use a supplier who is unwilling to reduce the cost of goods stated on the customs declaration to a value below the customs threshold.

Royal Mail is not that bad, they usually manage to get a parcel from Charing Cross Road to Oxford Street in less than 2 weeks.

I remember last time i had to collect from the depot. The man there had to search through heaps of parcels so to save time he said, "do you know what you are collecting?". I stood there wondering what i was going to answer before i realised a simple "small box" reply would suffice.
