| Bill All-Star Member 5334 Posts 6/00 | Rather than pressing the date physically into the disc, writable DVD's utilize a layer of dye above the plastic layer. The data gets burned into the dye. You can tell the difference between a discs that are professionally duplicated and those that have been "burned" by the color of the bottom of the disc. "Burned" discs have a purple color to them. That's the dye. Replicated discs are typically silver or gold on the bottom, although some manufacturers have started having discs duplicated on discs with different colors in order to make it easier to detect pirated copies. The long & short of it is that, if you want to record on DVD's, you will need to purchase recordable DVD's. Taiyo-Yuden is makes the best recordable DVD's. |
