And the frequency and accuracy of the information depends on how the retailer calculates the figures. Ratings and reviews are either done by staff or customers or comes from media sources. In all cases, they're done by humans (or monkeys, depending on your perspective), which mean that not everyone is going to like the same thing. I would really be scared if all the lists agreed... Just that there are lots of viewers that like that particular series or type of movie. I think that reviews would be more valuable since they describe what is contained in the movie, stars, action, etc. You would have to get somewhat familiar with a reviewer so you know if what that reviewer likes, and rates a movie high, matches your own tastes. Even if 9 out of 10 people agree on something, that 1 person out of 10 will be bitching about it. Why should sales rankings effect a reviewer's opinion? As DenverDon said you have to get to know each reviewer. Look up some titles that you liked and see who agreed and look up some titles that you didn't like and see who agreed and stick with those reviewers. If you are reading a review from a reviewer that has different tastes than you do then there is a good chance you won't agree with them. But I wouldn't start putting in words like 'personal censorship' and 'codes of ethics' like reviewers are against and trying to get rid of films that you like. [Link] |
