What is the Better Sex video series like - and similar videos like it? The ones that are supposed to be for couples that involve real life couples and that are supposed to teach you good techniques and all that. I haven't seen one yet. They are often advertised at the back of mainstream magazines. I was wondering if my boyfriend would be interested in seeing one with me. Is the sex all softcore or is there some hardcore stuff in it that would keep guys interested as well? Does anyone have any knowledge of these videos that could help me?

There are a couple of reviews here.

They're okay...certainly not worth the premium price that those magazine ads ask for. You can do much better by using the price search and buying individual titles.

The older titles in the series seem dated since they were made in the 80's and early 90's. The series is heavy on relationship advice and talking about sex in clinical terms with various "expert" sexologists and doctors. The sex is not at all explicit compared to modern porn standards. You might see fellatio, penetration with toys, and a few fleeting moments of intercourse, but it runs more like a Playboy couple's video--soft focus, a lot of kissing, etc. In other words, something that could be shown on HBO with a few cuts.

I'm not sure about how valid the "real life couples" claim is, since I've seen a few with recognizable porn stars in them who pretend not to be porn stars.

I recently saw "Better Sex for Black Couples" and the production values are much higher than the original series.

The Nina Hartley's Guide to... series is much more explicit but it seems to hit a different audience. The Better Sex series is more basic in nature and tone, while Nina's series is more like a tips & techniques for the more advanced.

What Saki said.

When man invented fire, he didn’t say, 'hey, let’s cook', he said, 'great, now we can see naked bottoms in the dark.' - Coupling
