The entry here is the crux of a perplexing question for non-Region 1 viewers. For some background checkout Australia on-line.
"On NTSC vs PAL your thoughts echo'd my original ones, but now it all seems very muddy. If nothing else the aspect ratio of an NTSC recording will be different from PAL. The graphics card on a PC won't care about that because a window is set up by your PC player to suit whatever the aspect ratio is. If you have TV out on your PC, it maps your entire PC screen to the TV so again no aspect ratio problems.
"One of the more troubling points that I have picked up on, is that some DVD's covers go to the trouble of warning you that it is NTSC or PAL, which is what started me wondering why the manufacturers see it a significant enough to mention.
"Further more, my DVD play states that when it is set to Region 4 it will convert NTSC to a pseudo PAL (a fairly common facility now found on PAL VCR's) but it is incapable of doing the reverse. i.e. there is a warning in the manual about thinking you can Set it to Region 1 and then play a PAL DVD. Again, why the warning?
