As part of our 2257 compliance efforts we have started removing images from the server. Instead of a broken image you will either see a blank image or a black image. This is temporary. We'll eventually update all of these pages to remove references to these images.

The forum.adultdvdtalk.com user webspace has been shut down as well. If you have FTP space on the server please download a copy of everything that you wish to save. Everything will be deleted from forum.adultdvdtalk.com no later than June 15th.

But you can still link to the galleries on another host as long as you don't put thumbnails here?

I suppose you'll make some scripts to do the actual HTML updates.

Will this script influence reviews embedding ADT's own whole/half/empty stars for individual scene ratings?

Is this embedding of the star images discouraged in the first place?

I'm not sure I understand.

What we have started doing is browsing through all of the directories on the server using Windows Explorer in thumbnail view mode. We're deleting anything that's a potential problem. (I don't think that stars are going to be a problem unless someone is sticking them in a gaping orifice.) Instead of the server returning a 404 error/broken image it will return a blank/black image.

Here is an example of a review where a couple screenshots were deleted and replaced with a black box.

We have saved a copy of everything that was on the main webserver (ie everything but the forum.adultdvdtalk stuff) in case the FSC succeeds in getting an injunction.

Manually removing the images? Yikes, that sounds time consuming. You have my sincere commiserations.

I thought you would remove all ADT hosted screenshots, and later make a script to remove all IMG links to those and external images in forum posts and reviews.

So I figured that script might then also remove any IMG tags linking to the same star images you show in the ratings part at the top of all reviews.

These stars:
https://www.adultdvdtalk.com/price_search/graphics/star_half.gif

I took the liberty of embedding those stars in the body of a review.

There are two issues here: forum.adultdvdtalk.com hosted webspace and images in forum posts.

I have shut off the forum.adultdvdtalk.com website. There are no images being served from there at the present time. We may go through them manually at some point and remove the offending images there as well. If we do we will copy the data to www.adultdvdtalk.com from forum.adultdvdtalk.com. (i.e. users will no longer be able to update their own live webspace via FTP. That's too much of a risk for us.)

I doubt that we will ever go through the HTML in reviews either manually or programmatically. Blank/black images will most likely remain that way. I will not be automatically removing images from reviews via script.

The forum is a completely different issue. I will be stripping out any embedded images in forum posts programmatically. I may replace them with the original [img]image_name[/img] type of tags in order to leave the option of reversing this process at some point in time.

Thanks for the info. I guess the stars are safe.
But what about reviews with embedded images from other servers? Or have you simply never approved any reviews with those?

That was my concern, as I host my thumbnails from imagevenue.com for reviews, but I checked a handful of my most recent and nothing is gone. I suppose reviews will be easier to control since they have to be approved before being put online. I'll continue to take great care in capturing "safe" screenshots (with the occasional nipple when absolutely unavoidable).

I don't know. I'll need to talk to Steph about these. I didn't realize that reviews had images hosted on other servers.

But there would be nothing to stop a reviewer from swapping those external pictures for something racier later on.

And since ADT might be help responsible as a publisher under 2257, Steph and Drew can't really take that chance.

Do you mean editing your own reviews ? I thought that was impossible the moment they were submitted.
If you mean reapproprating the html code imagevenue or another host provides you the moment you upload an image on their server, I also think that's impossible. More or less, I think the moment Steph or Drew approve a review, there's no way to modify it.

If you use a one-shot image server then you yourself couldn't change the image.
But if you have some web space of your own (I do) and served the images from there, you could swap them anytime.

Were I in Drew's shoes I wouldn't want to chance it.

Of course this is only a problem with embedded images. Linking to pictures at appropriate places in scene descriptions shouldn't be a problem 2257 wise.

I think that we will only allow people to link to images on other servers in reviews rather than embed the images. We will probably change all embedded images to links. I need to look at the reviews a little more to figure out the best solution.

Drew, why not use the black box for political purpose? Have it include a message as to why it is there and maybe a link to further information.

GS - when we remove covers we can include a URL to explain why the image is blocked - because covers are one standard size. the black box is actually a one pixel graphic to be substituted for different sized images.

we will keep people informed of what's going on.

Sounds like a good idea. I was going to wait until my new web site was ready until I took Lee Carver Photography off line but now I think I will spend the weekend converting it to a strict portfolio site and just take my time on the new design.

I have been working on the program that will strip images from reviews. The goal is to remove the display of any images loaded from external servers while still offering the ability to reverse this decision in the future in case things change. My program will automate this task. Example:

This code:

Becomes:
Steph and I discussed the option of making the replacement image clickable in order to be able to view the original image. We're undecided on that at the moment because it has the potential to force the 2257 recordkeeping requirements onto the reviewers that posted the pictures on the internet.
This is a serious liability that I assume all reviewers would like to avoid. Am I correct in this assumption?

Yes, this reviewer would like to avoid that liability. That's why I backed up my screen shots onto a CD and deleted them all from the forum.adultdvdtalk.com server.

Most definitely! I don't know if it's easy to do or not, but if you're able to put together a list of my reviews (just the sku# would be enough) I'd be more than happy to go back and take out all my links if that'd help clean up the site. If there's anything else I could do to help out with my reviews, lmk.

I'll be kinda sorry to see it go , but your script missed a smiley holding a sign with a heart in this thread about the lovely Ms. Lixx.

Edited to add:

I think your script went a little haywire in that thread.

The posts where the heart sign is still there, it's killed lots of capitalisation and apostrophes.
Changing things like BTS to bts , Kimi to kimi , I've to ive and you'll to youll .

I'm sure it didn't look like that originally. I can be pretty anal about these things.

Sure it's a pain in the ass but I don't agree that it means a goodbye to the ADT we know and like. I believe (and I hope) that most of the ADT users come here because they can read and write stuff here (forum posts and reviews), not because they can find naughty pictures . Of course we would all like to see pictures in reviews and of course it would be nice to be able to use images in some posts (although it's not always a good thing), but the images aren't the most important part of ADT.

I really hate the 2257 and C.F.R. 75 compliance...its so unspecific that it leaves you needing to hire a lawyer for the real info on what to do and how to do it right..

Apart from the pwetty wittle flower smiley in that post, DenverDon's animated one escaped your script in several other posts in the same thread.

BTW, are you filtering the images dynamically with ASP, or did you edit the posts in the database itself? Just curious.

I'm still confused on this point. Even posting a link to an adult website (such as Plat X) is a no no, but what about posting a link to a modeling agency?

And if I can't post a link to a modeling agency, could I post a link to a non nude image of a star, if the picture was at a site like imageshack?

You can post links to pages at any site. We didn't say you can't post links to adult sites. (no posting of links to illegal sites or sites that promote illegal activities.) You just can't post links directly to images. http://somesitename.com/image.jpg is an examble of a link to an image. Links to images are not allowed. http://somesitename.com/somepagename.html is an example of a link to a page. Links to pages are allowed.

Yes. That's fine. In that case, you are linking to another webpage that has programming associated with it to display those images. Therefore, LaDirect Models would be responsible for 2257 record keeping.

Had you liked directly to one of the images on that site like:
http://www.ladirectmodels.com/images/girls/JadaFire/Jada%20Fire301.jpg, that would be a problem because the code that causes that image to appear would be generated by ADT, who would potentially be responsible for 2257 record keeping.
