Hey folks. I commonly here phrases like "blue movie" and "blue business" thrown around. I assume it's like the porn business/movie, right? It's slang right? How did it come about? What exactly is a blue movie? blue business?

How about as in relating to "Blue Laws"? (ie: like those states that won't let stores open for a full day on sunday due to religious reasons)

speaking of blue laws (good thought btw) - anyone ever read Elmer Gantry by Sinclair Lewis? the book provides an interesting look at how the blue laws came about (as well as being 'a satiric indictment of fundamentalist religion' etc.)

just finished it - great book - very applical to to today's televangelism.

Didn't read ELMER GANTRY, but I did read BABBITT By Sinclair Lewis, which as we all know, is the in-depth biography of Lou Costello's comedy partner.

Blue: coarse, obscene, pornographic.

Blue Movie: a pornographic movie; erotic film.
