Anyone remember the movie about Bob Crain the actor from Hogan's Hero's? Greg Kinner played Bob...
Did that creep you out or did you identify with him in any way?

I thought it was a fantastic movie. I think that some of his home porn movies were on the internet at one point. I would find watching those scary.

I enjoyed the movie and didn't find anything creepy about it. The director tryed to put in a little gay thing but I am sure that was for dramatic purpose. I would venture to say that nearly 100% of the guys on this forum are voyeurs and that is what Bob was. He just had the money, fame, good looks and technology to put it on film. I think his son has a website with all his old stuff which I believe is black and white and not very good quality from what little I have seen and that is of no interest to me. Bob did nothing I couldn't see myself doing. I understand Hugh Hefner put some of his early conquest on 16mm back in the old days before Playboy but very wisely destroyed them. Bob's friend and partner was a hangeroner picking up the seconds and was a creep and murderer aside from the fact he was found not guilty.

Christopher Walken's portrayal of his "friend" WAS very creepy.

I believe Willem Dafoe played Bob Crain's friend in "Auto Focus. He does have a remarkable resenblence to Christopher Walken. Good movie.

I thought it was a good movie but it was the same formula as a lot of other biopics - a person starts small, becomes famous, then gets wrapped up in an addiction. Only difference was instead of alcohol or drugs, Crane was addicted to sex with as many different partners as possible and filming/taping it whenever he could. The other difference was Crane wasn't really "redeemed" at the end, though he did learn to control the addiction.
The acting is really good. I like Greg Kinnear in just about anything.
I also like how it shows how bogus TV can be - I wonder how many people watched "Hogan's Heroes" and thought, "I wish my daughter would meet a nice, wholesome man like Bob Crane."

You're EXACTLY right, it was Willem DaFoe. Forgive an old lady.

What weirds me out is that you can care enough about the subject but still misspell Bob Crane and Greg Kinnear's name...not to mention...oh, never mind.

Yes, I know I shouldn't question mods...but, Dude, you saved just two lines. I've seen qoutes-within-quotes quoted in this place..
And, in the meantime, hasn't this (Bob Crane porno "scandal") been brought up and discussed...and ridiculed...many times b4?
I kneel before the mod to await my punishment.

In Robert Graysmith's The Murder Of Bob Crane (the book Auto Focus was based on) the point is made that Bob's best friend / hanger-on John Carpenter (so brilliantly played by Willem DaFoe in the movie) was bisexual and had made a pass at him at least once. The portrayal of this aspect of their lives in the movie reflects the source material, which was compiled from many sources.
My interest in this case stems from the fact that I was a little kid living in Phoenix at the time of the murder (Bob was killed Scottsdale, AZ, a couple miles east of our house) and the initial investigation dominated local news for months afterward.
That said, The Murder Of Bob Crane is probably one of the most gripping true crime books I've read.
