Bali is a very popular tourist destination here (it's only a 3 1/2 hour flight and very cheap).

Having been to Bali on numerous occasions, it will be hot and humid all year round.
As an Aussie, I really like the climate but being English and unaccustomed to that kind of weather, it's unlikely that she'll share that sentiment.
She'll be sharing a cell with other prisoners and it's unlikely any of them will speak English so communication will be difficult at best.

I will never support countries that have oppressive religious-based rules, especially when they are a double standard with different rules depending on wealth and/or gender, but I accept that I can't visit these countries and bring my own values and morals. It's downright disrespectful.

Not that ever had any inclination to do so, but I'd never visit anywhere in the Middle East. Indonesia would be out too. Well, pretty much any country where religious rules take precedence over basic human rights. And sorry to say this to my American friends, but for now, that includes the US. I sold property there during Trump I and apart from a trip that had already been planned to Seattle and Alaska recently, I'll be taking a pass for the next while.

Underage drinking is illegal though it's probably not policed as well as it should be but in saying that, as business found to be knowingly selling alcohol to minors won't get away scot free.
