For a self serving soap opera look at the 80s industry read Jerry Butler's Raw Talent.
For an Academic view of porn shoots read Robert Stoller's Coming Attractions.
X Rated by Robert McCumber. Porn Stars by Ian Gittler
And coming soon, based on an article about what a scum bag John Holmes is the book Pop Shots by Legs McNeil who talks at length about Holmes' involvment in the Wonderland Murders

Legs McNeil's book sounds promising, his book on punk rock, Please Kill Me was a terrific read. Bottom Feeders is another book about the Mitchell's which almost seems written to fill in the blanks of left open in X Rated. Eros In Hell is one of those Creation critical genre studies about violent Japanese porn, I thought it was, like most of this publisher's output, pretty good if not knock-you-out-on-the-floor outstanding.
Raw Talent should only be purchased for very cheap or (preferably, as a matter of principle) shoplifted. The book's finest attribute is that it can be read in the span of a weekend, still leaving you with enough time to spare to build a house before Monday morning rolls around.

nruddock,
Not really, if you read the reviews I've posted on RAME of Babylon Blue and Killing For Culture you'll find they're both mixed reviews
[url=449162]http://www.rame.net/library/bookreviews/</A
(the most positive review I've posted of a book was a Feral House publication called Tales Of Time Square). If it seems I bring them up a lot it's just that they're among the few publishers putting out books about the work itself (ie. books about porn likely to interest me), rather than sleazy, anecdotal expose's which is all most books on this subject matter boil down to, and frankly that kind of lifestyles of the stupid & exhibitionistic approach just doesn't interest me much, unless it's very well and thoroughly done, an all too rare occurrance.
Two books I forgot to mention, these from St. Martin's <g>, that I liked are Immoral Tales (about softcore european sexhorror movies of the sixties and seventies) and Grindhouse (about the early days of stag).
