Fast Facts: An early reference to the year 2001 came in the form of the classic film and novel 2001: A SPACE ODDYSEY, released in 1968, and recently on UHD Blu-ray! 2001 was the start of the 3rd Millennium and the 21st Century! Social Media sites, such as Facebook, Twitter and YouTube (Hey! YT's comment section does often act somewhat as a form of SM!) had yet to be born.
